kicking off this four track ep is one of yuri s most dynamic productions to date. wildly oscillating synths and snapping handclap-led house beats drive east west connection , while what starts out as an acid synth shifts through a cycle of changes before evolving into a detroit-style riff. both nervous arp and morning at home take the same palette of sounds into much deeper territory, touching base with electro funk and straight up jazz-fusion, highlighting yuri s versatile musicality and distinctive production style. modular is an older track of yuris - a non-stop ride through wonky, synthesized fusion with hypnotic keys and rolling drums.

benales opens the e.p. with radiate, a track where you can clearly hear his influences of the american school of 90s minimal techno. long time dj but new on the production side, this is benales first effort on vinyl. after his initial masterpiece on knotweed records (kw006) and a handful of releases on demented (hiss 1992) and krill, opuswerk is back on knotweed with displacement, a trippy, hard hitting, analogic techno attack: no concession on this one! gonzalo md has already delivered the goods on both knotweed (kw004 and kw011) and decision making theory (dmt 006), as well as a fantastic ep recently on extrasolar. here, with sharp oscillation, he keeps developing his unique style, producing a highly percussive, almost samba-like, piece of techno. label owner philippe petit closes the e.p. with indian summer, a track moving along a warm bassline, bearing some recognisable krautrock influences.

hot off his collaboration with madlib and med (bad neighbor), socal ambassador blu has teamed up with the paris-based production team union to present “la counting”, the lead single off their forthcoming album cheetah in the city. featuring remixes by exile, dibiase, and yann kesz, this limited edition 10” delivers blu’s lyrical love letter to los angeles while union’s synth-soaked production marks a stylistic sea change for the below the heavens mc. rippling with 808s and cinematic strings, la counting is an organic evolution from the signature keyboard-driven sound that put union on the map in 2012 with analogtronics, their debut album featuring talib kweli, mf doom, elzhi, guilty simpson, and more. cheetah in the city will be released later this year on fat beats records, but until then the world will have to keep la counting.

modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

for the latest instalment in the apollonia story we look to argentina and the talented producer federico molinari. having been based in germany for the last couple of decades, federico has refined his sound, developing a strong signature through his dj sets and his studio productions, most of which he has released via his label oslo. federicos ability to craft effortless grooves and timeless rhythms is evident here on this killer new three-tracker. side a is the eight-minute long roller * congo toys*. the focus here is on a crisp 4x4 beat, which keeps things simple – under this lies a sturdy bassline. all the while, the low end is accompanied by a series of bleeps, which could almost be the chatter between two archaic computers, modulated and weaving in and out of the beats and bass. on the flip, we have two more dance floor-ready joints. like * congo toys*, * tres cuartos* is focused around a simple foundation, with layers of unusual effects – an overriding sense of playfulness comes through in molinaris production, perfect for the boogie down crew. last up, * joyfex* takes us further into leftfield, hypnotic, hazy atmospherics draw us into their web and we are tangled up in a mesh of vibrating whirrs and echoing, distorted voices. sublime business from an apollonia favorite…

on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

halogens latest release brings two seasoned craftsmen, ilk & etch together for a collaborative effort on my soul. the two combine their production skills for a soulful stepper with intricate drum patterns layered with classic breakbeats, soul samples, and heavy sub bass - taking the listener back to the classic 90 s jungle era with modern day influences.

the uk s newly inaugurated future primitive label holds a candle to its name by unearthing two leo anibaldi productions from deep within the roman s voluminous back catalogue. the two-track 12- debut sees anibaldi provide the label with a contemporary stretched edit of 1994 production -fusion 1-, a cut lifted from the aeon ep originally released on the now defunct italian label, acv. future primitive has also given ambient number -evocation part ii- a full remaster and b-side privileges, honouring an esoteric production from anibaldi s void lp that was originally released on aphex twin s rephlex label in 1996.

the highlife world series is a collaborative series of releases by uk-based brian d’souza aka auntie flo and esa williams. the first three parts are to be released in quick succession in early 2015, beginning with cuba, followed by kenya and finishing with uganda. each release features original songs produced in collaboration with local musicians. all proceeds from each release will be sent back to the respective countries in order to fund further musical production costs in years to come. we will also be seeking various ways to distribute the music in each country so the music is freely available for the musicians to use at home.

stuttgarts motor city drum ensemble (aka danillo plessow aka inverse cinematics),presents a superb ep of deep house taking its cues from berlin and detroit. 2008 was a great year for motor city drum ensemble releasing parts one and two of the highly acclaimed raw cuts series which featured heavily in many best of 2008 house music charts. he finished the year with an excellent resident advisor podcast and a set at the resident advisor christmas party. his ‘get slapped up’ release on compost black and ‘breath control’ release on his own four roses label have been in the boxes of taste maker djs and seen him become an in demand producer. danillo is also a part of the inverse cinematics production team who have released on pulver, fuid ounce showcasing his more jazzy, broken beat production style. this debut 2020 release features three superb tracks that take their inspiration from the likes of theo parrish and carl craig as well as the deep house sound of berlin, yet retain the signature mcde sound.

the latest release from the swiss duo larytta, entitled jura libre, is a chunky, massive, intelligent, colorful (in that full on tropical way) four-song collection of club bangers. to be exact the full set actually consists of two original songs with an in-house larytta remix a piece. the originals lean on pronounced inflections of playful, tricky, afro-tropical rhythms, while the reworks go for a more direct four-to-the-floor approach straight for the jugular. apart from the vibrant, tight production what unifies all of these tracks is a head nod towards that nineties club sound, especially that golden age acid rave material. this is music made not only by great producers, but heads that really know and love clubbing culture and history and know how to tastefully reference the past. the ep closes with bota mao pra encima which features brazilian emcee junior, and thats the point at which you start to question if this ep was truly cut in switzerland.

massing almost a dozen eps and an impressive album debut all within three years, the production powerhouse that is jordon saxton finally hits home on figure. while developing various sonic identities at once, his first outing for the label as viers is a strictly no-nonsense techno affair.

sebastian fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for cadenza records this spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the theofidelity ep. the german producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and its on lucianos label where he makes his mark as a solo artist. dopeman opens the ep with a rolling chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. fiegen keeps up the pace with anando, more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes. closing the ep is th01, again coming correct with the feel good factor with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. a cracking debut production from fiegen, and a well rounded release for cadenza.

we are very proud to announce that we have signed arovane aka uwe zahn for echocord. uwe is in our world a legend within the electronic music scene. he started to do releases on the old berlin labels din and city-centre-offices. he is known for being one of the best producers ever within the idm & electronica scene. back in the 90’s he listened to the music of basic channel, maurizio and fluxion a lot. this sound is timeless. in the summer of 2015 he started to record a couple of dub sounds and beats beside his collaboration work and the production of his new album. he talked to fluxion and told him about the growing project. he liked the tracks very much and connected it with echocord and the modul ep was born.

originally released via ascetic house in 2015, vereker’s grace tape owes much to the canon of vintage anti-music, exploring catharsis via a transgression of traditional compositional & technical values. working with the same thematic concerns of much of the more leftfield additions to the avian catalogue - in it’s more subdued moments, anxiety & dissafection, in it’s more high energy - pure hysteria - the recording pairs basic synthesis with warped vocals in the same manner as industrial progenitors throbbing gristle and steven stapleton (nurse with wound).
the reduced palette & crushed production aesthetic creates a powerful immediacy, with a twisted musicality being drawn - at times, kicking and screaming, out of the depths of the mix. like much of vereker’s best work on labels like lies & berceuse heroique, elements warp & twist uncomfortably within the tight confines of a reduced dynamic spectrum - creating a dark, heady energy. scetic house, the predominantly cassette only label, has seen appearances from la’s silent servant, northern electronics’ varg & avian’s own shifted - under his covered in sand alias.

a key label on the berlin scene since the 1990s, muller records—famed for a deep and chunky club sound from artists like dave dk, claude young and the hacker—is back with a new ep from beroshima feat rummy sharma with remixes from namito and pascal hetzel. beroshima, of course, is the production work of label frank muller sometimes accompanied by ethereal electronic music specialist ulrich schnauss. after more than twenty years together they have amassed a fine body of work that includes five albums and more than a hundred eps! always mixing up acid, techno and tribal into something fresh, the beroshima sound has its own unique signature.... for this latest single muller steps up solo to produce another gem. the stellar delhibelly is a slick and muscular cut that bubbles away on a bed of warming bass....

“room with a view” showcases both sides of stephane 1993’s production aliases, with two tracks from each persona on either side of the record. believe it or not, this is stephane 1993’s first full 12”, but with another release planned on boysnoize following this and a release on dj boneyard’s hound records label as steven be calm, the future s looking bright for the young producer from newcastle in australia.

italian artist fabio monesi has been busy these years working hard in the studio while also running the wilson records label among his other production projects. here we get three tracks of no nonsense party jams sure to burn the floor. from acid storm to palladium, all bases are covered on this ep with big basslines, punching acid and well placed samples chopped just right for you and all your dj needs.

for mimi music, komplexx (poolside recordings / silhouette noir) has delivered a melodic techno / progressive crossover. this moody tune is deep yet melodious and builds beautifully. it’s just one of those tracks that works, with its genre-crossing coolness and excellent production. the remix is provided by our lovely house-specialist sascha dive (deep vibes, cocoon, raum). the german master turns the original into a brooding techno affair which is driven by thumping bass and sparse percussive elements. the remix keeps building until there’s nowhere left to hide, turning the track into an absolute floorfiller!

the force known as 33.10.3402 has built a cult following in certain circles through the years with his adventerous production approach and execution. with numerous releases on labels such as esp institute, kunstkopf, and most recently second circle we now see his appearence for the first time on l.i.e.s. 33.10.3402 perfectly balances his sound and presentation with this three track effort where we hear tones and rhythms that can go from baleric to metal beat in the blink of an eye. with looming clouds clearing for the light of day and then back again, these tracks sonically play with the emotions and serve equally as dancefloor cuts or for home listening bugout sessions.

for the 9th release on concealed we offer you the debut ep from ddalmh, a mysterious copenhagen based artist. daniel lyons (as his real name is) may be known to people on the scene as the owner of the well respected lomidhigh imprints, but his music production have been kept in secret until recently. daniel’s sound is a very deep, unpretentious and dubbed out kind of house music. on the flip side we invited thomas melchior to make a remix, he turns “sun” into a timeless tripped out deep house tune that will hypnotise any dance floor in the early morning hours.

the first truelovesounds vinyl is coming from our very own artists meffert & sannikow. the -hill ep- is an elegant mixture of trippy and spacey elements that shape this ep into a solid microhouse production. by choosing arapu as a remixer he not only manages to lay his signature in -konstabler hill- he also acquires a distinctive form and groove to the track.

good things come to those who wait. the long-anticipated land of light debut, a masterpiece of an album and pillar of the esp institute, was unveiled in late 2012, slowly followed by the gorgeous remixed ii. since then, many have longed for the missing first half of this two-part package, the universe is kind and has finally delivered remixed i. on side a, kuniyuki takahashi (mastering engineer behind seminal esp releases, and legend in his own right) took the bull by the horns remixing flares—a piece of music so entrenched in melancholy, with such fluid performance and production, its hard to imagine anyone taking it deeper—he has unarguably triumphed. on side b, esp institute veterans tambien rose to the same challenge with flares, the bavarians taking a refreshing uptempo approach, a contrast to the swells of guitar and synth. closing the release is the seahawks blissful re-imagination of bell rock outpost, slowly and steadily setting sail into a dusky vision of the scottish lighthouse after which the song was named.

horatio and javi green met in ibiza and decided to summon their production skills in order to produce something really groundbreaking. horatio & javi did a superb job by fusing together the much hyped romanian techno with some spanish soul flavoured. on the remix duties is the one guy who is truly on the roll right now: ada kaleh .

after releasing brand new material on dum034, dum records are dipping into the label boss’s production archives for the next one: it is a reissue that features tracks from a number of classic mono junk releases. two came on trope records, one in 1995 and one in 1993, and the last pair of cuts come from 1996 when they were released on plug research. arguably some of the influential finnish producer’s finest work, all of the tracks here emphasize how long he is operating on the top of his game already.
