for its first release of 2014, sammy dees ultrastretch label has called upon monsieur georget. youre forgiven if the name is unfamiliar. his bio offers few clues—he likes his bicycle, vin rouge and analog hardware, the latter of which was apparent on his recent debut for le loup and seuils hold youth label. bold and auspicious, the ep may have left you wondering if it was something more than a first record. and as it turns out, monsieur georget is none other than chris carrier, the long-active french purveyor of hypnotically minimal house.luckily we werent left waiting for very long for more material from carriers new alias. his second release, le vicieu / colle de la bonette, shows that monsieur georget and monsieur dee share an affinity for pared down, wonderfully elastic club tracks. like carriers best work, the compositions themselves are minimalist, but their hardware-based sound pallet ensures theres plenty of meat on the bones. a-side le vicieu is a subtly melodic shuffler, where deep bass growls at the core of an expansive drum set and whispers suffuse the negative space with mystery. on the flipside, colle de la bonette takes the sound someplace stranger and more psychedelic. whatever weird place were whisked off to, though, its every bit as funky, with brittle drums undulating to the kicks deliciously irregular throb. >monsieur georget< might be a brand-new name, but we’re willing to wager you ll quickly get to know these rollers well.

limited edition, hand stamped inclduing a unique print. time to welcome kresy to the label with three original tracks of immaculate left of centre house. with only a clutch of releases his name may be new to many but if you dig deeper youll find hes definitely moving the right circles. his debut release on john talabot’s hivern discs gave some broad exposure, picking up spins from the likes of four tets keiren hebden, jenifer cardini and nick hoppner. remix requests followed too with releases on exquisite pain, southern fried and lovemonk all getting the kresy treatment.

the third in the modular techno series from live analogue artist and freerotation organiser steevio. after 15 years of producing techno live on hardware, in 2009 steevio began building a dedicated machine on which he could totally improvise an entire techno performance from a blank canvas that far surpassed anything he could do with his previous setup of drum machines and synthesizers. steevio’s modular is 100 analogue, there is no computer involved, there are no memories to save sounds or sequencing patterns, and everything is improvised in real time.. volumes 1 and 2 of the series were just a taster of what was to come, and were the early experimentations on steevio’s newly built machine. steevio records everything he does, especially during the intense practice sessions for live gigs. all the music in the series are out-takes from these practice sessions, and the tracks from volume 3 and the forthcoming volume 4 all come from a three day period in practice for a recent live gig at delete, bournemouth, uk. volume 3 continues from where volume 2 left off but delivered with more confidence and a deeper more hypnotic feel. steevio continues to develop his skills and fine tunes his unique instrument in this dedicated for life project.

robosonic has been a pivotal part of off recordings roster, their releases being highly expected every time and usually meaning instant dancefloor melting magic. with a hip hop and techno background and adding many frequent flyer miles with worldwide gig schedule, the pair shows no sign of stopping. this time is no exception, cord and sacha get back in their creative roll of sample wizardry to provide two mouth watering jams. they once again prove their love for organic sounds and reivindicate the use of the turntable as an instrument, adding that old-school vibe to their trademark beats. macho madness is quite a trip, sweet rhodes over a bouncy bassline, great sample work adding guitars and an insane speech. as always, breakdowns are intense and its impossible not to dance to the groove!for the second track, robosonic joins another off family team, mat.joe and together they go deep into their hip hop influences again working the samples as only they could, a little disco flavor, a driving bass...all the ingredients are there for another instant classic and a respectful shout out to detroit producer legend j dilla, who left the game too early. r.i.p!

i came across j.cs music through the argentine label greener records on which he released the m-theory ep in early 2013. to this day, this 12inch has not left our record bag! i really like how j.c naturally blends a house feeling and groove with a techno vibe. in 2012, j.c started the ahd label together with his friend damian schwartz, releasing records from the likes of fred p, dj f, marcos cabral and epiphany. he also recently released a split ep with new york producer fred p on soul people music, as well as set the first release of his own label j.c records, which came out last month. i am very pleased to release his new record on deeply rooted.

modern primitivism, the fifteenth release on get the curse music comes from the label head clement meyer. a 3-track 12 inch that showcases a new, albeit logical, direction for the producer, now blending electronic body music, industrial, downbeat and 70s electronics in its own raw, moody & distinctive style. as a counterpart to the left-field vibe on the ep, lumigraphs remix (opal tapes, mister saturday night) is a techno bomb ready to serve the dancefloor.

it is jam citys turn to deliver a batch of sweaty, streamlined dancefloor weapons on the 6th installment of the club constructions series. the minimalism and intensity of jersey club music remains a huge influence on the whole night slugs camp, and while jerseys impact can be felt across the cc series, jam city channels those devastating ghostly kick drums like none other. continuing on from where he left off with club favourites *the courts* the *how we relate to the body*, jam drops 5 lean and intense drum workouts build from scrap metal and primed for warehouse use. they move between thudding midrange persistence and just-sub-and-air minimalism, framed by jammed drum machine rhythms and splashes of re-sampled colour. jam decorates these sturdy and well-deployed undercarriages with silvery detail, percussion fragments, broken talkboxes, whispered vox and simple, beautiful chords.

the third release on james zabielas imprint born electric comes from canadas iron galaxy aka adam hodgins. his discography includes music on trend setting labels like audio culture and tigas turbo recordings.

graded is a new label run by midland. it arrives after multiple releases on will sauls aus imprint and collaborations with pariah & breach. the focus of the label will be on vinyl, with full artwork sleeves, 180 gram pressings and locked grooves, it will however also be released digitally. initially the label will be used as an outlet for his own productions and collaborations, with a view to later releasing music from his peers. the first release contains two tracks which set the tone for the label, left of centre electronic club music.

in the current flood of edit labels and releases, legendary sound research are among the few pursuers of quality left. the second installment of the legendary edits vinyl series compiles the hardest working edit arrangers of the past couple of years: alkalino, rayko, jimmythetwin and label owner, the legendary 1979 orchestra. tracks that you might know take an entirely different form and vibe and tracks that you never heard before are ready to make dance.

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.

a surreal spark of darkness slowly awakens a monstrous tune that becomes more radical by the second. with soundscapes taking serious shapes, the emotion actually comes from deep within: pointing out to infinity. desolate is a hazardous mixture of sick, twisted growls taking extremely unique forms, sub-driven resonating basslines and spacious soundscapes, which bound you to darkness instantly. as the intriguing second part of desolate flows through the mind and soul, no listener is left unharmed as it sweeps you away from reality. with further developed harsh, sharp percussive elements and frightening samples to accentuate this cold production, desolation will become a step closer each and every time you lose control.

here lies the final chapter in the first testament of shocks, and as with the previous three releases, were granted no mercy. a-side tracks trajl and contagious are a full fledged assaults on the psyche, taunting with just enough melody to convince us of musicality, but never really rising from of the swamp theyre stewed in.the b side closer klamata could be seen as a comedown, but after a short while you realize that youve been led only deeper, left in a state of total disarray.
