kid drama’s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that’s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the ‘trife ep’ proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in ‘brutal d’ to the late 90s techstep vibes of ‘articulation’ all the way to ‘payback’, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika’s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we’re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.

initial listens to inre rymden (swedish for inner space) reveal it to be a curious combination of slow-motion house music and salubrious new age funk. in this case, first impressions are accurate, and they should intrigue you enough to dive deeper into the paradisiacal vistas tommy awards paint here. the opening track prometheus introduces that feeling of sundown deliquescence that very few musicians can summon, as it locks into a laid-back groove that induces utmost serenity, buoyed by sublimely mellow guitar vibes that should make fans of manuel gšttsching s ashra and phil manzanera s solo output spring to attention. draget conjures the sort of exquisite elegance and preternatural chill last heard on roxy musics 1982 lp avalon but somehow its even more blissed out than that boudoir classic. and so it goes for most of inre rymden: among the six tracks, only rexy hints at tension, courtesy of a bass line that sounds like it should score a prisoners walk to the electric chair. but thats tempered by guitar sighs of radiant melancholy, not unlike those lofted by popol vuh s daniel fichelscher. even when inre rymden gets relatively uptempo, as on hans logan, it still glides like gilded, glazed, balearic house jams, urged on by subliminal bongos and dappled with pastel guitar shimmers far off on the horizon. music is love and love is our music, runs tommy awards slogan (a sentiment beautifully echoed by david crosby on his revered 1971 album if i could only remember my name), but one could also argue that it is medicine a balmy ear massage that spreads healing frissons to all areas of your body and mind. tommy awards continue their miraculous act as scandinavians channeling the tropics with stunning audio verisimilitude.

paul hester created his cult moon music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. the label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it s catalogue, all produced by hester himself. those few releases on moon are now highly sought after among house and techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. the interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full moon story untold. the electric wig ep was the first release on the label and is here in fully remastered reissue form, with all racks lovingly transferred from paul hester s private, personal dat stash. classic, deep uk techno sounds from the pre-millenium era, re-presented for the first time for 2017 s dancefloors. across these 2 tracks and 2 lock grooves we are treated to a sound that is timeless and will undoubtedly gain paul hester new fans while reminding those of us who were there in the late 90 s about his subtle and uniquely fresh production style.

best works records label-owner andré lodemann is back with a new long-awaited ep on his imprint. it is the 20th release on the label. for this “birth” ep andré personally enlisted non-other than swiss duo adriatique for their remix skills aswell as new-comer producer fabian dikof. andré’s track “birth” creates contrasts using african-drumming inspired styles paired with techy-beat pro-gramming. starting more on a minimal tip the track works its self up to high-tension climaxing with an emotional break keeping the deeper moments intact. adriatique created a faster more club-orientated ver-sion paring the more hooky parts of the original with beat-sythn elements giving the track a more tribal feel. the second remix featured here come’s via fabian dikof the second main artist on best works records. it s great to have him remix andré lodemann at last presenting his masterful skills. fabian took a different path in his remix working more on the melodic hook but also creating a warm bass-laden soundscape that loves the dance-floor in its own right.

the mighty mystic bill, a true us house legend though somehow criminally underrated. those who know, know. his records have long had a mythical status among the diggers, with dj s who delve that little bit deeper weaving his sounds into their sets. having released on numerous labels including relief, trax, classic and more bill has cemented his rep as an artist that has his own vibe and sound. bill s music exists in that space where the late night meets the earliest morning, sweaty, dark dance-floors and stripped back, jacking tracks are the order of the day... proper, real deal house music. mystic files covers the period of 1989 - 1995 and showcases some of bill s various styles, originally released on trax in 1995 this timely reissue shines a light on an artists who definitely deserves more props! this release has long been a tough one to catch with second hand copies sometimes fetching healthy prices online and collectors clamouring to harness some of bill s magic... this will be right up your alley if you re a fan of ron hardy, relief / cajual, steve poindexter, armando and everything in between! sleeping not advised!
