bxl002 is the second release of the artist-run brussels based label bxl. this second release by simon halsberghe features the dark discoïd black tape mass on the a-side. while the title refers to the tape delay echo s used in the production, it s the groove pushed forward by the pulsing bass line and the clap that give it that distinct dark disco vibe. on the b-side machine wailing sounds like an incessant siren. the rest of the elements in the track all push and pull around this hypnotic siren, giving it context and power. the last track, grey over white takes the hypnosis deeper with a deep fizzy bass line, resonant drone and crisp hihats. at the end of the track additional percussive elements puncture the drone to give way to a polyrhythmic work out.

producer victor “ticklah” axelrod is back with another supple reggae delight. after the success of the inversions last collaboration with bob & gene, axelrod once again takes a seat in the producer’s chair, this time with a tune a little deeper in the catalogue. originally tweezed from the beautiful mo do tape boondoggle, back in ‘05 - ‘06, this single has been a long-time favorite of the daptone family.

francis harris is a founding member of the scissor & thread label a brooklyn-based imprint established 2011 as an outlet for deeper, more personal sounds, as well as music from a range of associated artists including black light smoke, bob moses, frank & tony, dj aakmael, desert sound colony and aris kindt, to name a few. harris own output has gone from tightly wound tech house cuts as adultnapper in the early days, sublime deep house as frank & tony, intricate and expressive musical journeys as evident in his two solo-albums ‘leland and ‘minutes of sleep, and ambient shoegaze with two aris kindt albums, co-produced with gabe hedrick. most recently harris branched out with a new label kingdoms a home for his love of a more adventurous sound. now we are proud to present his new solo single, the first since the release of ‘minutes of sleep, ‘minor formswhich includes two remarkable remixes by valentino mora. more we cannot do is a perfect example of harris feel for depth and dynamics a track that feels submerged in a warm amniotic fluid cocooning the listener in a thick subby bassline, providing much of the groove, with skittering percussion on top and intricate fragments of melody throughout leading to a wonderful moment with live vibraphone provided by new york player will shore. minor forms, the eps title track is cut from similar cloth emerging from a subtly distant place to inhabit a melancholic, beautifully evocative space somewhere between ambient, jazz and the dancefloor. joining harris is greg paulus on trumpet, a long time friend and collaborator adding his signature touch to an already moving piece.

chicago damn is the latest esteemed producer to shore up at marcel vogel s intimate friends label, following the hypoleon ep with some forthright, sample heavy funk house concoctions that nod to his other work on wolf music and the like. -bunny hoppin- is a rowdy but soulful belter with a peppy tempo and an addictive line in looped up samples, while -flush- takes things slower and dustier without getting too lost in the undergrowth. -the truth- lays its samples out in bold, bright brushstrokes with a pattering, psyched out undercurrent for deeper, sunkissed moments, and then -tipsy- finishes the ep off in a playful tryst of re-pitched piano trills and scuffed beats.

love notes turns its affections towards the windy city with this exemplary 12- from chicago producer shmoo, who is no slouch in the energy department when rolling out the pumped up deep house delights of -sidehacker-. -intellect s intuitive waste- is no slouch either, taking a brighter sunshine approach compared to -sidehacker-s nocturnal veneer, and -limited trance- keeps the jack up while letting the additional tones and textures take things deeper. garrett david gets busy with -intellect s intuitive waste-, creating a crafty remix steeped in intriguing percussion without losing that housey focus that defines the love notes approach.

hackney vandal patrol is a brand new project from long time friends and neighbours scott fraser & richard sen. focusing on their joint love of that deep miami/ new york house sound, vol i is the first edition in a series of ltd 12inches. heading back to richard s heritage of being a highly respected graffiti artist, each one is hand tagged by richard in his own unique style and numbered with an insert by scott. the first release, bound by faith is a straight up and direct for the dance floor miami style deep house cut, complete with reverend jesse jackson speech on the vocal version. for the dj crews there is a deeper redemption dub stripped back bass hit with added percussion and a re-programmed instrumental of the original. the hackney vandal patrol were once despatched to patrol the streets around the mighty london borough of hackney.
