crosses genre to find its own space, & soundscapes, downtempo, ambient, & house music all find a place. the record flows like a vague narrative, a non-specific sort-of passage, a meditative jazz-house trip.

the berlin-based producer is kicking off his label with a four-track single. while he is perhaps not as name-checked as some of the hardware hawking house heads of modern times, arttu snellman has been working hard at gritty box jams for a good few years now. he first appeared under his arttu guise in 2011 with the nuclear funk and fear diluted singles on royal oak and philpot respectively, and then proceeded to wheel out tunes for 4 lux and chiwax over the ensuing years. prior to the tough-edged pump of his current ventures, you could find snellman indulging in a more laptop-centric kind of practice under the name lump. this more minimalistic, glitchy house fodder could be found on labels such as karloff, morris/audio and süd electronic amongst many others. back in the here and now though, arttu was last spotted on clone jack for daze earlier this year with the rave dogz 12”, and next up he’s taking matters into his own hands. existing fans of arttu will be more than pleased with the heavyweight, crunchy tackle that inhabits cyblo01. this is dynamic business with same heft found on previous releases from snellman, mixed in with the cheeky flair that has always marked his productions out in a crowded marketplace.

sing with me: much in the same vein of the mannheim house sound made popular by artists like johnny d, nick curly, christian burkhardt etc. bretts gives us a deep but driving track centered around an african boy singing. brett chops the sample up to create a choir of ethereal voices to support the boys singing. as the track progresses it takes a left turn into weirdville through some dramatic synth tweaks & sweeps. this track is perfect for anyone who likes to dance standing up, with their head down and first firmly in the air. speaking japanese: many people will tell you learning to speak japanese is one of the most difficult languages to learn, and theyre right. lucky for you, brett has done all the work by translating his message into sound. the core inspiration for this track is based on a sample from a song by get physical owner and artist mandy. they were kind enough to let brett use the sample and run wild with it. the result is 8 minutes and 12 seconds of over driven 909s, rolling bass lines and a pad so thick you need a fork to eat it. all of this keeps the calm while frantic chatter and out of this world fxs take you to a japanese after party somewhere in shibuya.

birdsmakingmachine are back on track and continuing their series in style with bmm 007. kicking off things on a1, at 124 bpm, “the draft” is a joyful number that bursts with relentless energy while managing to fuse sharp metallic drum patterns with juggling ambient hooks. the more dancefloor-oriented track is nevertheless found on a2. as the title suggests, “area 52” is quite literally a journey through the unknown and mysterious, a metaphor for the deep minimal house amazon, a track that stands out with an extra subby bassline, swinging hihats and those ever-so-warm sequenced analog pads in the background. flip the record over and you find yourself with two slightly more industrial affairs, “the voice of kudha” on b1 offering a breakier alternative than it’s predecessors and “zagonity”, on b2, galloping its way to close off the record with shuffling vocal hits and an amalgamation of bouncing hats and snares.

elgian in origin, igor vicente and dka join forces to create two monster tracks for their haus boo ep on hot creations. championed by jamie jones, lee foss and richy ahmed it arrives hot on the heels of hot creations’s paradise events series announcement for ibiza 2016, this is music made for those heady nights on the dc10 terrace. on the a-side is haus boo which the guys created after being inspired by the all time classic the house master boyz and the rude boy of house house nation . taking the release into a much darker realm is shady with a seriously addictive beat, endless high-hats and relentless snares. infatuated with music from a young age, igor vicente founded the belgian wildfamily parties in which jamie jones, seth troxler, dinky and matthew styles among others have all played. some years later he formed one half of ultrasone, and has released on get physical, mobilee and hot creations multiple times. these days you can catch him playing at one of his two residencies in belgium, cafe d anvers and fuse, and founding the label state of flow. dka has his roots firmly placed in the house music scene and has taken his sounds all over europe, whilst releasing on get physical music, mobilee records and play label records to name just a few.

nonplus 035 passes the torch to finnish producer samuli kemppi who’s built a solid back catalogue over the last 15 years and in that time has also become a pioneer of electronic music in helsinki. his radio show deep space helsinki (alongside juho) developed into one of the cities most popular club nights and also into his shared record label dsh. his debut on nonplus brings us 3 slices of no nonsense deep space techno.

that night, we answered a regular call, something about crazy loud noises coming out from a basement. while driving to the area all i could think when i first heard the bass stomping was: “man, whatever, this doesn t even sound like music to me.” and we were at least a 100 meter away from the source of the sound. when we got there, after knocking several times on the door, we decided we had more than enough probable causes to bust in. after a warning, we kicked the door open. what we saw inside was a five feet tall woman jumping around in that cacophony. we screamed and she ignored us, my colleague then panicked and shot her with his taser several times – she then simply pulled the probes out of her body shouting moments moments – and continued to jump around..

the story begins at the heideglühen club in berlin where the true romance crew saw ojpb play. in the midst of his set he dropped a mysterious track that completely lit the crowd up, it was e-lane 2 troy. in this offering, true romance introduces montreal based ojpb (also known as bowly, dÐd, mtsp). through this alias, french-born olivier borzeix delivers raw and adventurous rhythms sourcing his inspirations in rare funk disco nuggets and the golden age of house music, blending it into what he likes to call : hypnotic soul. e-lane 2 troy is an uplifting cosmic mind bender. with its brilliant disco loops and infectious trance inducing melody, this is one that will fill and fire up dancefloors all over.

fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

jumpmono records is back with the next instalment of vinyl/digital mayhem! this time we welcome the super talented italian techno brothers, mr. bizz, with their superb single crescendo. mr. bizz have been making some serious noise across the techno scene over the past few years with their releases landing on labels including, cocoon, sci+tec, octopus, suara and many more... so it was inevitable that we would invite them to release on jumpmono. first up on remix duty is techno legend, koen groeneveld, who provides a powerful peak time monster. the second remix comes from none other than alex di stefano, with his amazing, harder techno sound. the third remix is a huge techno slammer and comes from holland s incredibly talented, steve mulder.

saft welcomes nortasun to it s expanding roster of artists. with not too much info being available about the artist, the music should do the talking. nortasun comes up with a sample drenched ep that consists out of swell basslines, mind expanding chords and outlandish percussion works. untitled 1 opens up with a carefully placed disco sample that hovers over the rhythms very nicely. the percussion section and the ascending chords serve the overal ambiance while nortasun plays with the extended loop pattern that maintains of interest. untitled 2 serves as a very deep but functional voyage into tribal territory. a vary of percussion sets in and smartly exchanges tones with fx cuts. on the b side fudge fingas debuts on saft with an atmospheric beast of a remix for untitled 1 that constantly grows and cleverly uses vocal cuts that change up the original atmosphere and makes the overall a very broad work of house music. the stevie wonder like clava hit + piano solo s that come in when the remix progresses are all in courtesy of the edinburghian producer himself.

laate is the new project of clayton guifford (unrelated / fragil). for this second release, we are very glad to welcome - the black tone - (rawthencity / appian).- circadian attraction e<p - is just as ethereal as abyssal tone records, where nagging mpc s swing and reverberation s effects are placing great emphasis on minimalist compositions, strictly dedicated to the dancefloor.on a side: - circadian attraction ep - is backed by a dynamic rhythm with analog tones. a meticulous architecture temple where time stop. a techno recital of limpid beauty gliding on a groovy bassline that will make every soundsystem whirr.on b1: - aquatic redox - is a plunging us into deep submarine daydreams. a digital bath with salty taste and hypnotic dampness. everything is a quiet, question & answers between the different elements are bouncing over and over in the atmosphere, constantly captivating the attention. a perfect balance between strength and subtlety. finally on b2, - aquatic redox - s remix is released by the famous producer: janeret (rutilance /aku). after an -haute-couture- intro, slightly breaked, we find in this remix the galactic synths typical of the talented young parisian’s repertoire. clear, precise and extremely mastered, this rework put everyone in agreement on the dancefloor.

magic source is a project led by producer björn wagner (the mighty mocambos, bacao rhythm & steel band, mocambo records), who is renowned for creating an authentic and hard-hitting raw funk sound. following a few acclaimed single releases on favorite recordings over the past few years, the french label deeply wanted to collaborate further with the german combo, for a special and exclusive project bringing their music on new paths. this new project is a step towards a new style: analog-electronica, or so called cosmic-disco sound.

following on from last years exceptional ‘obsession ep’ from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, ‘the aten’. ‘the phantom ep’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, ‘after the light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

2016 sees label boss aubrey release his first full ep on solid groove since 2003. a1-time level bypass is a peak time 12 min long bass groove with alien noises throughout. b1 rangoose, is a unreleased track originally made by aubrey in 1998, heavy in nature for the purists. b2-mf-104 is a 120bpm deep house track more suited for a 7am play, with lush echos from the rare moogerfooger mf-104 delay limited to just over 500 units made.

out electronic recordings introduces the second installment of different seasons various artists series after kicking off the first one with tracks from fabrizio lapiana, regen, civilian and limo back in january 2015. out-er sets ‘different seasons vol.2’ as the twenty-first vinyl release on its way – as the first volume, the record embraces melodic techno tracks and introduces new and old faces to the roster. on a side attic music boss fabrizio lapiana appears on out-er again offering ‘square’, then the experienced dj luciano esse offers ‘the call’ following to his very first ‘the green ep’ released on the italian label back in 2012. flipping the record over on b side and lachriz’ comeback on out-er sees the debut of his moniker ‘farron’ with the ethereal cut ‘travelling through your mind’ – while the newest artist on board hydergine provides a dub techno journey opting for a swinging, fresh piece typical of his production imprint.

the first sketches from an island album garnered support from a diverse set of trailblazers. from gilles peterson to trevor jackson, boiler room to pitchfork, mark barrott has become an unlikely hero for balearic music after only a few short years living in ibiza.

over the course of four albums, manchester based trumpeter, composer, arranger and band-leader matthew halsall has carved out a niche for himself on the uk music scene as one of it s brightest talents. his languid, soulful music has won friends from jamie cullum and gilles peterson to jazz fm and mojo as well as an ever-growing international following. his label gondwana records is home to gogo penguin and his own albums have found halsall exploring the modal jazz of john and alice coltrane, paying tribute to the hard bop of the late ’50s and early ’60s or most recently on fletcher moss park drawing on eastern influences in his most personal statement yet. his latest album when the world was one is something of a companion piece to fletcher moss park (much of the music was written at the same time) but draws more explicitly on halsall’s love of spiritual jazz and eastern music as well as his own studies in meditation and travels in japan. beautifully recorded at hasall’s favourite studio, 80 hertz in manchester, and engineered by brendan williams and george atkins it features the recording debut of halsall’s large ensemble, the gondwana orchestra, which utilises the exotic flavours of harp, koto and bansuri flute and eastern scales to create a global palate for halsall’s life-affirming sounds.

st. petersburg talent ivan latyshev drops a killer ep on the ever-dependable dessous recordings. ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as what’s in the box, street king and spaghetti monster - but this to my youth ep sees the young russian step up to another level. the title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. the sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors. cant go away goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner. old ages also highlights ivan’s love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - its infectious stuff and suggests ivan latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.

our latest looking for mushrooms ep comes to us from a collaboration between long time dirt crew resident tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer grambow. we first heard from grambow when his fluid key stylings featured on tigerskins faint in 2015. the title track is a suspenseful and moody journey, lead by live double bass from feature artist das eb. building in intensity with tigerskins warm production and steady percussive instrumentation until grambows live lead on a gritty synth growls in over the top. a true modern electronic classic as far as we are concernred. tsukiji is a playful deep house groover. balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano which cruises along throughout the whole tropically touched endeavour. this track has party written all over it! octocat is a tougher italo disco tainted work out, tightly programmed live and analogue percussive elements push along, while wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. you can really taste and feel the long studio sessions the guys had to compose this great track. it is so much more than generic dance music. red fox is a divine culmination of the pairs compositional prowess and dance music knowhow. a cinematic and spirited house track that glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds. we are very honoured to release this outstanding musical release by tigerskin and grambow.

2016 is shaping to be a fantastic year for rebirth records, the 10th year anniversary and the 100th release…to celebrate this special date the label owner shield and his right arm robytek get in the studio to collaborate with two of the most innovative figures of the end of 70s / early 80s. the a side is the the pyramids with isabelle antena, french singer and songwriter, founding member of electro-samba pioneers antena. in the 1990s she also led another group, the powaga sisters, for three albums between until 2004. alongside these projects she maintained a solo music career, selling over a million albums and earning musical acclaim across the globe. from camino del sol (1982) to bossa super nova (2010), her cool latin, bossa, jazz and funk vibes have delighted ears and feet worldwide. the pyramids is something really special, a cosmic and balearic song with a timeless meaning, with the collaboration of martin ditcham (sade s percussionist) for the drum and paolo mantini, a real italian talent, for the bass and chords. the aa side is now, a collaboration with salvatore principato (sal p.) and dennis young, known as the vocalist and marimba/percussionist of (for the legendary early 80 s nyc band liquid liquid) seminal nyc minimalist-funk band liquid liquid. the experimental sounding band emerged from new york city s vibrant downtown scene in 1981, developing their own unique sound which they called big beat, a fusion of irresistible basslines, junkyard percussion and urgent, free-flowing lyrics. the group s successes included club hits such as cavern (sampled by grandmaster flash in the making of white lines), bellhead and optimo in addition to sold-out concerts worldwide. sal p and dennis still explore today new ways of writing & performing music. now is the experimental way to combine the live drums played by snacks (the berlin based duo rene corbett & aljoscha babel), with the electronic world and the unique musical textures from sal p and dennis young.
