djrum needs very little introduction. his reuptation as a producer is as solid as he is reknown as a badman dj. and it is with great pleasure, 2nd drop welcomes him back for a stunning ep, which sees him delve deep into the dusty hole of his musical hive mind. as the first in a 3 part series of eps, the forgetting ep kicks things off in idiosyncratic style – widescreen, emotive and textured – djrum weaves a wonderful web of unspoken, yet melodically powerful narative over 4 tracks.

continuing a strong line of afro inspired works, men like pedestrian & jasperdrum drop another scintillating technoid excursion on 2nd drop. deeper, moodier with dynamically carved esoteric angles, *origins* moves forward from the superb kalakuta, the afrobeat meets bass music bomb supported by giles peterson, scuba, midland, mr scruff and many more, from last year, to deliver a heads down destroyer. off kilter, wonky and expertly crafted, pedestrian & jasperdrums *origins* is pure class, led by a host of syncopated percussion, haunting flute lines and distorted vocal samples, this is what fela would have sounded like if he had teamed up with carl craig in 2014! on the flip we welcome alix perez, best known for his dnb production but widely talented as shown by his arp101 outings on the likes of eglo. here, alix takes the tools to kalakuta, transforming the originals afrocentricity into a tense, punchy roller, dominated by a bass line which literally jumps in to your ears. toss in a stabby synth line, rifle shot drums and plenty of bass with space, this a beautifully crafted refix.

the constant carousel like shift of unreleased tracks on his soundcloud and sporadic twitter sessions, south london ordnance relishes his clandestine, shady persona, keen to allow his craft to act as spokesman instead. following early support from electronic musics matriarch mary anne hobbs, a marauding mixtape for glasgows luckyme earlier this year and big support from mosca, hackman, dark sky and tessela, the amount of hype surrounding this south london (obviously) based beatsmith has been ridiculous. and we are very pleased to say this is his debut release, and a killer 12 inch to pop his recording cherry!

still a relative newcomer, tessela has had releases on irelands all city label back in early 2011 which pricked our ears. however, the rush of excitement when we first heard darlene, please was intense and unforgettable. with a racing, industrial sound palate, the bristol born and bath resident, has literally built this track from spare carboretta, dump valves and exhausts pipes, engineering a precision industrial mix of pushy house with cold, growling techno. this guy knows how to build a killer groove, keep you guessing and squeeze the most out of a sound.

there are a number of producers who are known for being prolific, roska, cooly g, benga to name a few, and now gerry read can be added to that list. the cambridgeshire producer has only a handful of actual releases to his name, but a vault of hundreds. we can well imagine his hardrive straining from the sheer velocity of ideas that he sends our way. raw, urgent and frequently off kilter, gerrys production challenges your ears but always manages to lock in the groove.

another slick double artist 12 inch from the 2nd drop camp and for this, our 9th release, soushakerz head honcho and kent second finest achievement after the channel tunnel, j:kenzo, offers a blistering a side with conqueror. this moody, skittish and intense bongo led firecracker that descends into a thumping bass skank out on the drop, is pure dancefloor dynamite.
on the flip sees the return of ld, who continues to take the percussive elements deeper on derailment, adding in ravey synth line and switch up 2nd drop that compliments conqueror perfectly.
