flumos mainstay ekkohaus returns, this time bringing a full-bodied package for the dance floor. suitably, far fetcher acts as a warm welcome, inviting the listener inside its richly deep analogue soundscapes, reminiscent of deeper sides of classic house rhythms that have come from the usa. its pace provides a perfect way to start off the ep while the synth-vocal creates a soulful depth. things get darker and more aggressive with musketeers, a dub-heavy rhythm that drives one to involuntary movement due to its relentless repetition and & subtle swing. the amalgamation of the synth along with the pulsating sub invigorates one to move and bounce along with these elements. fantasy provides the penultimate party vibe. it s funkiness transcends & the melodies drive the vocals to the extent of ecstasy. rounding off the ep 64 bars features vocals by arthur russel, the synth inflicted break progressions capture the vibe of ekkohaus live sets with its haunting chants hinting towards techno and while its warmth never escapes.

sydney based swede adam stromstedt returns for the second release on lyssna, which he co-runs with partners out of stockholm and amsterdam. he s previously done stuff on bristol s banoffee pies and local imprint junk yard connections, mr. tophat s label. his offering on the a side entitled -sinbad- is a dusty and hypnotic deep house jam, that will appeal to fans of thomas melchior or more recently rene audiard. on the flip, there s label co-owner flord king, who just so happens to be the aforementioned connection in amsterdam. his contribution -dapper- is another excursion in subtle trance induction with rolling bass, immaculately programmed rhythm and woozy pads for added effect.

ethimms second ep when in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. in the opening track why (a cover of the rhythm and sound classic), producer elisabeth thimm sets the stage for guest singer veronique to mourn love s loss, while brian gimmel s improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. the follow-up track late features lexx s dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. the b side opens with ethimms love for dub. next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes

berlin-based producer lapien serves up an atmospheric three tracker on radio slaves rekids. also known as metropolis or one half of artefakt, nick lapiens last three releases have landed on finale sessions, fred ps soul people music and dvs1s mistress recordings. releasing on rekids, the multifaceted dutch artists next outing features three mesmerising cuts with the dusky a change is gonna come initiating the package using infectious hats, subtle sub-bass and an indistinguishable vocal that ebbs subtly in and out of the mix. as it is is the most robust number on the package with its undulating percussion and moody chords taking centre stage, until vexed concludes everything with gloomy pads, shuffling hats and echoing effects.

minimood continues with a deep piece of heady minimal from esteem german producer sascha dive with a mesmerizing remix by celebrated dutch producer ion ludwig. the after the storm ep is released on vinyl only. after the storm is ten sumptuous minutes of moody and atmospheric deep minimal house with warbling synths, meandering drums and spooky, spaced out atmospheres. the drums roll on free from any friction and the pads are delicate, elegant affairs that circle round you and leave you hanging in a wide open space. vocals sounds like those from a spaceship s pa and lend the whole thing a sense that you are voyaging through the galaxies. it is a truly burrowing track that gets right into your mind, body and soul. ion ludwig s remix is quicker and more synthetic, with waify pads, gently breaking waves and fizzing little modular synth lines that are crisp and rhythmic and will fit perfectly into a set by the likes of ricardo villalobos. this is classy and subtle music that is stripped back and slow burning yet has a huge impact.

emotional especial comes together with future nuggets for a -special- one-off collaboration. reinterpreting the music of steaua de mare are four remixes from rising (eastern) stars khidja and mehmet aslan. the first in a short series of especial -specials- - where new artists are brought together for unique releases - we start by teaming up with future nuggets to present again the sonic offshoot in the unique band, steaua de mare. returning in remix form, songs from their self-titled album, as well as extra additions, are specially reworked. first khidja take album track babadag to new psychedelic depths, adding multiple layers of guitar and synths, all inexhaustibly dubbed and re-dubbed until a whole new track emerges for the more discerning minds. next mehmet aslan is focused on the dance-floor, carefully reconstructing new track shop into a club orientated groove, aiming straight at the feet with inevitable results. on the flip, mehmet then reworks album highlight, doamne ce greseala am, amassing tension in careful, subtle ways, crafting a version that is a proper meeting of hearts and minds. to finish, khidja return to remix the previously unreleased 1 septembrie. going to great lengths in managing a myriad of details, with balearic, kraut, pseudo-disco and exotica reverberations all pulsating, here then are on point examples of remix manipulation. a perfect way to start this series and showcase these wonderful artists.

very cool ep from skatebard on vivod ! a mixed bag from the prolific norwegian producer showing us why he s still at the top of his game. -maskindans- kicks things off with some speak & spell funk followed by -hissige helger-, a brooding chicago-style banger sure to tear up some discoteques across the planet. on the flip are -langbolgen- and -gloymde skogar-. the former is an acid style work out, the latter is more of a subtle, hypnotyizing opus. all very strong tracks. don t sleep on this. they will go fast !

subtle flowing house and ambient sketches plus a wonderful artwork and poster from super quiet

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.

traceless, the new collaborative release by sinfol and octual, the two artists who shaped the sound of the label with their distinct grooves. the 6th installment is an ep full of warm, spiraling and acid-tinged lines, spherical percussion and foggy rhythms. mystical and pristine but with a subtle summer funk around the edges.

sea island is a collection of new material composed and recorded over the past two years. while many of these compositions were performed live extensively prior to recording, others were constructed in the studio and are being heard for the first time here. musically, the album represents a range of compositional approaches. murky, densely textured depths of sound are explored with subtle pulses and pings woven within, contrasted with composed or improvised moments of acoustic instrumentation making a move into the foreground. certain tracks on sea island such as album opener ahull make rhythm their focus by exploring subtle polyrhythms and investigating colliding moments of repetition and variation.

appleblim’s third 12&#8243,,, for tempa touches on the sonic territories explored on his first 12&#8243,,, (the experimental and amorphus ‘wandered’ from tempa101) while expanding on those ideas. the first track ‘minus degree’ is appleblim at his most experimental. a beatless affair of sparse soundscapes and atmospheres. full of tension, and crucially no release, you are swept away by the waves of synths and sub bass. next track ‘move them’ is more traditional appleblim - 4x4 and dub techno chords build a sense of momentum over the space of 7 minutes. a traditionally leaning techno tune with a uk twist, appleblim’s use of space and tension will keep any raver entranced. final track ‘twist it down’ rounds out the ep with a subtle roller. broken drum patterns and bright synths help in stripping away some of the darker undertones prevalent in the previous tracks.

aus music ready a double vinyl remix package from cassys debut album, donna which came out in june 2016. with donna we hear a more personal side of cassy. co-produced by her soul brother king britt, cassy reconnects with her vocal talentwriting lyrics and singing on all tracks but one, making the album an intimate journey from the soul. cassy has en-listed some of her most respected peers, all of whom have put their own stamp on the original tracks. this makes the remix package the perfect contrast to the album, and also proves that cassys original music has the seal of approval from some of the finest house and techno heavyweights on the circuit today. marcel dettmann adds an endearing edge to move move, whilst ron bacardi picks up an undeniable pace on all i do. feel is taken on a cosmic journey with onsulade’s yoruba, and radio slave gives keep trying the remix treatment twice. finally keep trying is reworked on by friend & collaborator, djulz, julz takes takes things down a subtle, dubbier route with his edit, keeping cassys vocals a staple throughout.

liam blackburn s transformative night of visions lp as ancestral voices forged a bold new sonic identity for an influential figure on the electronic music scene. from his groundbreaking work as indigo and onto the success of akkord s hybrid electronic melting pot (with synkro), the quest for forward movement is intrinsic to everything liam produces. to further celebrate the night of visions lp release, we asked some of our favourite producers to reconstruct some of night of visions highlights in their own style. each remixer chose their own track from night of visions to work with. the first name on our remix list was swedish producer and northern electronics label head - abdulla rashim. choosing invocations , his remix focuses on the hypnotic power of the original, turning the tune into a golden loop with subtle kick drum stabs, sweeping percussion and a dangling tension that hangs through the entire 7.33 minutes. asc & sam kdc chose feathered serpent and using just touches of the original tune have masterfully built an all new backbone that demonstrates clearly the ability of the grey area sound to work at 2 different tempo s and weld together with straight techno.

recently appearing on the mighty crosstown rebels with a remix of shaun j. wright & alinka ‘face the truth’, sought after duo audiojack are back serving up a solid two-track release in the form of ‘turya’. turya is built for serious heads down sessions fusing subtle acid pads with soaring synths and sonorous spoken words. the hypnotic quality of the teacher’s words beguiles and entrances the dance floor, allowing people to lose themselves in them and its evolving groove. ‘event horizon’ is a different beast altogether, with a heavy drum and bass vibe, a four-four format, and a classic -amen- break beat style. in 2015 audiojack launched their sunday social free party at veto club in their home of ibiza, which after a strong season will continue this year. their first essential mix recently dropped on radio 1 and a string of highly successful releases and remixes on labels such as hot creations, tsuba, 20/20 vision and their own gruuv has solidified their place in the dance music elite. it’s safe to say that 2016 is proving to be a big year for the talented duo.

the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

rolling straight off the back of another successful vatos locos off week event at city hall, barcelona and following his jacuzzi killer ep, hector is now ready to unleash the third installment from his new label vl recordings . fusion is a collaboration from core vatos locos member david gtronic, and flourishing romanian up-and-comer iuly.b. the fusion ep is a product of david and iuly.b combining their musical forces to create five unstoppable tracks, satisfactory for any deep dance floor moment, bringing a beautifully subtle tempo to the groove.

the excellent field label embarks on a new mini trilogy of eps that will -present a magical journey through modern-day trance.- first up in the series is artefakt with their three track effort the final theory. dutch producers robin koek and nick lapien make up artefakt, and between them they excel at moody voodoo music on labels like delsin. they open this latest ep with the title track, a deep, spacious house roller with subtle pads and gentle acid that perform slow motion acrobatics for nearly ten minutes. it is suspensory, dreamy music that works on the head as well as the heel. moving horizon is then less doleful and introspective but just as deep, with sweeping pads add a sense of scale, busy drums bring the dynamism and icy percussive sounds adding a sense of urgency. last but not least, solaris is a fatter, more physical groove with claps and gloopy bass, acid flashes and trancey pads all fleshing out a lush and deep electro workout. this is heavenly stuff that cannot fail to get inside your head and heart.

tim green is back with another brace of high impact club tunes of the sort that have made him one of the most in demand producers of the day. whether serving up rolling techno treats for cocoon, essential mixes for the body language series on get physical or laying down compelling club sets in the dj booth, brit tim green is unstoppable right now. here he steps up to the get weird imprint with two more tantalising cuts that show just how broad and brilliant an artist he is. stirring opener ‘for a memory’ is eleven minutes of wordless and intoxicating female vocals, slick rubbery drums and plunging bass. the overall effect is hypnotic, rolling and perfectly groovy, and it will no doubt have whole dancefloors locked under its spell. some little melodic explosions, sweeping filters and luscious pads all help add a real air of grace to proceedings that mark it out as another classic from green. ‘for a distant memory’ is a subtle but noteworthy reworking of the same cut. in this one, the drums are less direct and more stripped back, there is a focus on the angelic, glowing pads and on spine tingling slices of synth that are reflective and emotive as they drop in and out. it is a perfectly trance inducing, heart warming cut that the likes of lee burridge at his all day i dream parties, or various djs playing on a sun kissed terrace around the globe, will all lap right up. these are two more essential tracks from the ever on point tim green.

polish wunderkind selvy inaugurates no bad days with the pops ep, four tracks of tropical & grandiose house music. pops opens up with a bold statement in ‘wishing well’, a peak­time epic with the sort of disney­via­john carpenter sweeping flourishes. following that is ‘basics’, perhaps the most playful of all the tracks: all bouncy synth melody, groovy bassline and dreamy pads. on the flip, ‘bump pump’ is arguably the most energetic helping on the ep, a percussive workout with gongs and all. if crash bandicoot was to make house music, this is close to how he’d sound. rounding the release off is the title track ‘pops’, perhaps the most original and subtle track with colourful vhs synths and strange sounds pinging across the mix.
