reissue - miraculously rare and seriously obscure killer dubs. one of the very few hard core seventies dub albums mixed by errol brown. a selection of solid dubs originally recorded in 1978 by bb seaton at duke reid s legendary treasure isle studio and mixed in-house by the duke s nephew errol brown. a radical departure for all concerned this bold dub album was never officially released although a few clandestine copies reputedly did the new york rounds at the time. mojo by david katz - extremely rare 1978 dub album stands up against any from that era - -errol brown began engineering through family connections, producer duke reid was his uncle. trained by the highly-skilled byron smith, chief engineer at reid s treasure isle facility, brown cut his teeth mixing alton ellis, the paragons, peter tosh and marcia griffiths. -orthodox dub- dates from 1978 when bb seaton of the gaylads was working closely with brown at treasure isle, cutting tracks with ken boothe and mikey dread along with self-produced work, and although only ever issued in tiny numbers as pre-release lp in the bronx, these dubs pack a mighty punch, easily on par with any of the dub sets issued in the era by channel one or joe gibbs. outstanding tracks include -roots rockas-, a stripped down cut of boothe s -who really cares-, and -black forest rock-, a bass-heavy reading of seaton s -is life-.-

my favorite robots next release is a very special remix by dj tennis. it initially comes as a 10 white vinyl and will then be available digitally in autumn. mfrs ‘barricade was first released on dj tenniss life and death label back in 2012. it was a huge house track that resonates to this day, so it makes sense the taste- making italian steps up to remix it. he is someone with a cultured take on brooding house and techno, as evidenced by the music he a&rs for his label as well as things like his own standout dj-kicks mix from last year. his new remix is a masterfully melancholic one that starts with a delicate ambient synth line hanging in mid air. breathy vocals eventually arrive to send shivers down the spine and finally, deep, rolling, mid tempo kicks bring a groove that carries you away into a reverie. its made all the more mournful and poignant thanks to some broad synth chords and swirling pads later on and is sure to provide a real centre point of any seriously emotional set. this is a stunning and absorbing single and another high point for my favorite robot records.

rhythm is life and life is rhythm. not only is it our mantra here at neighbour recordings, it s also inspired the title of our debut release from brand-new production partnership and label owners base pilot aka quantec and birke tm. featuring four original tracks, the life is rhythm ep is a full thirty minutes of dope, low-slung house that perfectly unites the duo s many years of shared passion for deep electronic music. identify is the ideal introduction, swirling synths and deceptively hypnotic, it s a proper crafty cut, whilst ghosts leans towards a more emotive and subtle groove. title track life is rhythm is a warm and inviting ten-minute epic of chunky beats, quirky distortion and vocoded vocal snatches, whereas closing number on the early is seriously heads-down and deep. repeat after us, rhythm is life and life is rhythm.
