having pinned to perfection the sonics of the adriatic, croatias love international festival bottles up their blissed out rhythms and sunrise sessions for the inauguration of love international recordings, fittingly, with a first release from uk producer begin. bringing the love international feel to wax and digital, the label will encapsulate the range of music the festival’s secluded party paradise has become renowned for. all the way from the balearic tinges of this first release, to the meatier house, techno and electro selections on show at barbarellas. begin aka james holroyd has a long history with love international. dating back to the early 2000s, holroyd was one of the first guest djs at the old garden festival on the former festival site in petrcane. long serving chemical brothers tour dj, back to basics resident since the 90s and bugged out co founder, begin has long paid his paid his dues to the scene. in the words of dave harvey: hes been an absolute workhorse in dance music for time. love international 001s tracks seemingly fit the festivals own daily lifecycle. from the docile guitar picking of meditative ep opener wood trees to the slow daybreak funk of‘daypulse where synths pierce through the track like sun rays through the adriatic dusk, the ep is a holistic reflection of what one might hear at one of the festivals fabled sunrise sessions. garden interlude ushers in a fresh burst of energy, with the revitalizing sounds of piano house, paired with warming neo soul vocals. into the fun is a self fulfilling prophecy, closing the ep on a quintessentially balearic note.

knapp zwanzig jahre, 13 soloalben und unzählige tourneen lang war pi auf der suche: nach seiner vorstellung vom leben und deren verpflanzung in seine kunst, seinem standpunkt als gewachsener musiker und erwachsener mensch, seinem platz in der hip hop-szene, der welt und weiter. nun ist der berliner da, wo er immer hinwollte: da, wo oben ist - ohne dabei das unten aus den augen verloren zu haben. pi hat über all die jahre seine dues gepayt, wie es im hip hop-jargon heißt. und im zuge dessen hat er begriffen: -nichts war umsonst.- eine erkenntnis, die er konsequenterweise zum titel und leitmotiv seiner neuen platte gemacht hat. auf den ersten blick mag dieser satz wie eine floskel klingen. wie eine plattitüde. eine binsenweisheit ohne belang. doch wer pi kennt und sich ein wenig mit seinen werken und seinem wirken der vergangenen zwei dekaden auseinandergesetzt hat, der weiß, dass er noch nie auch nur einen schritt ohne grund getan hat. außer rebell zu sein vielleicht. -jede stunde, die verstreicht, kostet zeit, die noch bleibt / und frisst auf, was noch kommt: nichts war umsonst.-

one of the more unsung talents that came out of the gang starr foundation was the brooklyn-based duo group home, consisting of mcs lil dap and melachi the nutcracker. dap was first showcased on the gang starr posse cut “i’m the man,” on 1992’s daily operation, melachi appeared on “words from the nutcracker” from 1993’s hard to earn. the early group home song “so called friends” was also featured on 1993’s now-legendary gangstarr foundation sampler, which also gave the world jeru’s “come clean.” by 1995, dap and melachi had paid their dues and finally got their own full-length: livin’ proof. and it was everything that gang starr and any true school hip-hop fans could have wanted, produced almost entirely by dj premier (with two exceptions: “serious rap shit” helmed by guru himself, and “4 give my sins,” produced by jay-z mentor jaz-o (aka big jazz). beyond the album’s classic singles – “supa star,” “livin’ proof” and “suspended in time” – there are premier-overseen classics all over, including “the realness,” “inna citi life,” and “sacrifice.” in fact, many gang starr scholars agree that the beats on living proof are in the top 5 of all premier-produced albums – no small boast, but certainly hard to disprove.

before he was nigeria’s self-proclaimed mr lover boy, felix lebarty was an upcoming musician in the country’s edo-delta region. his big brother, aigbe, was a legendary highlife bandleader, but felix paid his dues playing guitar with thony shorby nwenyi and the collection of stars, along with fellow star mighty flames bassist, willy nfor. perversely, girls for sale was released after lover boy, the slick disco album that cemented his place in nigerian music history. it is a collection of tracks lebarty made early in his career, when his music was rawer and his pickup lines less sophisticated and less practised.

elliott thomas, aka etbonz, portlands prodigal son, touches down for the first time on loveon the rocks with my kinda future. etbonz, the lovechild of buckaroo banzai and thetalented ellen ripley, utilises the latest krystalvision technology over this eleven and a half minute opus to bring you to the edge of a future where maybe, just maybe, arnold didnt kill the predator.. where some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favourite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if you paid your dues. where you cant even get to the chopper, because kurt russell is in the cockpit with a head full of acid, wearing a hat made of drum machines. should we check it out? or just check into a psycho ward? whichever comes first, huh? its a kinda future that leaves you asking yourself, if i am not me, then who the hell am i? am i prins thomas? what is a diskomiks? you ever fuck a mutant? tall guy, weird clothes. first you see him, then you dont. the best mindfuck ever!

after a longer than usual break gamm enterprises is back on black plastic but more important... we got a brand new design! for those who don t know gamm has been delivering dance music of the blacker kind for almost 15 years but always with the same look. basically, a visual facelift was long overdue. but we think you ll feel it as much as we do and it really works beautifully with our musical ideology. so, for the (new) premier release we got an incognito producer that is rumoured to come from a small town in mexico. having finally agreed for a brief skype call he appeared wearing none other than a bright luchador mask and giving one-word answers with a strong mexican accent. no matter how convincing that was we still can t help thinking his name sounds pretty close to another producer that is to put it mildly, pretty hyped at the moment. musically the ep is ranging from percussive carnival disco (carnival in manchester) to brazilian fusion grooves (jazz in italics) and independent disco/funk (dues paid fast). either way you ll definitely find something that will work your party. gamm is back and back with musical vengeance!

monoton ‘monotonprodukt 02’, also known as mp02, is the debut album of austrian electronic maverick konrad becker. out in 1980 it was a precursor of the minimal techno dub sound that was starting to be popular more than 15 years after. the album has been reissued by desire a couple of years ago and a new pressing is in the work. anyway it’s time to launch a remix ep with new (and not so new) producers giving crédit to the work of the austrian master. on the a side we find 3 new artists paying their dues : sergie rezza, whose debut album out on desire was critically acclaimed, abdulla rashim (abdulla rashim records / northern electronics / semantica) and also opal tapes’ boss stephen bishop own basic house. the b-side is a great megamix of the album tracks by the one and only ambient/electronica veteran scanner !

first light is the first full-length album of original songs from easy star all-stars. the easy star all-stars have built a huge following around the world, having sold over 350.000 records and played shows in over 30 countries on 6 continents. the band - a collective from the nyc scene overseen by producer/guitarist michael goldwasser - has always played original music in its live set, some of which was released on until that day, an original ep in 2008. first light is an important step in the band’s story, demonstrating a wide range of approaches to reggae, from progressive to classic, roots to futurist, confirming the all-stars place as one of the most influential acts on the us reggae scene. the album includes 12 songs and one dub, with guest appearances by the meditations, cas haley, junior jazz, lady ann and tony tuff.

parages 009 is ojpb (known as bowly) first ep on this label, a side project oriented house and disco. the a side starts with « pénétrante », a disco house track, with classic bassline and nice chords groove. on the second track, its simoncino’s remix. the italian with a strong taste for chicago house, signed on mathematics, lies and more… he turns the track into a wild west tune with deep sounds and melodic lines keeping the groove.b side starts with a deep percussive house track, super melodic and really catchy with a detroit influence…..you got to pay your dues man. last one is a super catchy disco edit that will stay in your head and bring some dance moves that you didnt know of.

for pressure traxx 013 we take things back to basics. two guys and four machines are the only ingredients for these old school bangers. on the a side we re very proud to welcome nail tolliday from the uk to the family. this legend is in the game for more than 20 years and has paid his dues for sure. -sentipede- (originally released on diy discs in 95) was produced on a roland tr 909, tb 303, sh 101 and one effect processor. it was live mixed and recorded in one take. no trickery and no bullshit! on the flip we have pressure traxx co-founder einzelkind cutting it with his 808 rhythm traxx 3. this is a recording of a 10 minute live jam with the roland tr 808. no arranging, no cheap effects, just one guy working this all-time classic drum machine live n direct!

put simply, alexi delano and butane share a devotion to pure artistry that few in this industry are able to claim. both, over the breadth of expansive careers, have consistently chosen to forgo more commercial paths for wholesome, timeless, underground projects . after a chance meeting at an impromptu after-hours in brooklyn where they rocked a packed warehouse together well into sunday evening, the two decided to combine their talents in the recording studio, where they found an undeniable synergy. alexi, born in chile, raised in sweden and later adopted by new york, has been producing music for nearly 20 years. butane, born in the usa, dues paid in berlin, and currently calling new york home, has been djing professionally for 12 years and producing for almost 10. when 30+ years of experience comes together, one should take notice. here, the results are electric.

named in homage to the series of collectable football cards from the 1970s, the rothmans label follows the inaugural mario kempes release with another long-haired icon being given his dues in the form of the harald toni schumacher release, complete with another four tracks of chugging techno-disco. emotional responses timothy j fairplay kicks things off with *off the rails*, an expectedly dark and tense piece of carpenter-esque synth, while lwe writer per bojsen-moller delivers the atmospheric techno of *staying late*, whose rippling analogue bassline gives way to an unexpectedly funky breakdown. on the flip, steve cooks *noahs arp* takes things a balearic house direction with its thick, filtered analogue textures adding some psychedelic colour to its mid-tempo grooves, while emile strunzs *magnetic* adds some acid flavour to its low-swung, vocoder saturated italo swagger.

square room heroes are back on claap with their debut ep. after releasing now is the time, back in september the heroes, george and george, have been busy working on new material.the two tracks featured on this ep comprise mainly of works from thessalonikis native george boronas.crashed detail with its enchanting string arrangement captivated label head gummihz who immediately rushed to provide a powerful and dramatic interpretation of the original.we are also very excited to have a remix from one of the grooviest house heads around, none other than ekkohaus. with a string of releases on labels like moon harbour, liebe detail, morris audio to name only a few, kostas tassopoulos has established a signature sound full of swing and shake!and his remix on crashed detail does exactly that. ekkohaus takes the stabs and chord arrangements to another level over his characteristic swinging beats. on the flip side pitch the feelings is rough n tough funk reminiscent of early 90s beefy sampling. srhs george boronas has chopped a funk groove up to the point of delirium in an effort to pay his dues to influences such as dj sneak and carl craig!

the situation crew have paid their dues with some of the better disco edits to surface in recent times - a particularly slick and slippery revision of a quantic standard for disco deviance still gets rotation from those in the know. its nice to see the slightly elusive five valley crew return to the art of the twelve inch with something a bit more substantial in form of a new label situationism and some original material for the debut . barcelona is presented in three different danceable situations (geddit) with the disco version a particular highlight. the excellent psychemagik are also called on to remix the track in their own inimitable somewhere between house and disco style

recorded in late 2010 and mixed in a remote studio during the finnish snowstorms of early 2011, donky pitch present >the trick ep<, by helsinki resident and skweee pioneer v.c. six original tracks of synth soaked computer funk, electro inspired slow jams and colourful hip hop heaters. v.c. has been making moves in the skweee scene since the early days (as a solo artist and as 1/4 of supergroup yt). his combination of layered synths, hip hop beats and that type of funk only found in the cold reaches of the nordic region have scored him releases on every skweee label going (flogsta danshall / harmnia / mssy / ddpop / disques mazout) as well as ramp recordings. we felt it only right that he commanded our first true foray into the scandinavian electro funk sound of skweee.

flying circus music, returns with its second release, this time rocking the deep, extended, dramatic house vibes of radio slaves interpretations of humates love stimulation. the new-berliner matt edwards took his popularity from underground to overground, and right back round again. the world-travelling dj founded his solid, big room production style while his infamous bootleg and remix work was a mainstay of the uk electronic scene. now, with the strength of his rekids label and his unmistakable production approach, he re-works this early classic of german techno/trance élove stimulation into two remarkable slow burning epics. the >full length vox remix< builds from very opening bars, carefully combining classic house sensibilities with a totally free and organic, long flowing arrangement. at over 15 minutes, its a heavy weight tool for those late, hedonistic hours! carrying on the blissed out theme, weare also treated to a panorama garage remix, that bears a more raw, jacking house vibe, with its straight up beats and deeply-swung chord stabs. radio slave is a master at keeping things ear-tinglingly stripped, yet still filling the room with power, energy and tension. these two remixes certainly pay their dues to classic days gone by, but they also stand out as superb examples of the modern state of house. judging by this release its still as strong as it ever was!!

another 2 great artists featured on naked lunch records. mark williams is one of the most respected artists from the uk. he is truly a veteran, and he has paid his dues over more than two decades on the scene as a dj and producer. he released a staggering catalogue of quality tracks on some of the most respected techno labels in the world including: tortured, dark house, pure plastic, phont, primate, and carl cox?s ultimate trax imprint, to name a few. this time on naked lunch, he delivers 2 huge tunes, funky & hypnothic just how we like it. at this moment axel karakasis is internationally recognized as the best known greek techno dj for his full of energy 3 decks sets and featuring rigorous musical selection that portrays his style.after many years of hard work in the studio and together with spiros kaloumenos he launches omega audio recordings. having made omega audio a very respected label in the scene, axel is now channelling all his energy into his own brainchild, remain records. for naked lunch he specially prepared tetris & rebellion, both beeing played out by many djs, receiving great feedback.

after several months of underground pressure the orbital classic kinetic by golden girls (paul & phil hartnoll along with mike hazell) is finally getting a full release. one of the most ecstatic rave stabs ever is at the heart of this record and has now been reworked for 09 dancefloors by floorplay music - the label run by hot brighton production duo prok & fitch. the story began a year ago with prok & fitchs golden shower remix. instead of going down the bootleg or cover route they paid their dues and licensed the original track for their new label floorplay and set about getting some hot names to remix it. top of the pile is atfc who takes the original and gives it a tough house makeover. this man has been responsible for a few classic records of his own over the years so this combination is unstoppable. with the original orbital mix included this is an all time classic tastefully revisited.
