following mervs ep, taped artifact now presents a new outing by the label co-founder kevin arnemann. with three original cuts, showcasing the labels characteristic dub-influenced techno sound, the ep is complemented with two remixes by jonas kopp. arnemanns ‘trash polka ep kicks off with saturated 808-grooves, driven by steady dub-chords and hard hitting claps. next, the original track sees a special dub influenced treatment by jonas kopp. the in spain residing argentinian delivers a stripped down, yet high energized techno version. as a digital exclusive, kopp prepares a second interpretation, following the tradition of a classic rooted dub sound. on the flipside, ‘revertigo sees arnemann utilise a rumbling break beat, topped with icy rides, blissful dub chords and cinematic pads, taking you on an energetic trip. ‘ideology is bringing the ep to a closing. with heavily processed chords and hard hitting drums, kevin arnemann creates a suspense that leave you wanting for more.

amsterdam label taped artifact has lined up an ep from merv aka brian oldenborg and jan christiansen. after the re-melted reissue on styrax in 2015, this is the pairs third new ep in three years since coming back after first making music back in the mid nineties. their warm dub and techno style is still very much fresh and arresting. blueprint opens the ep with eight enthralling minutes of percolating drums and shuffling hi hats. frosty yet warm, it’s a cavernous affair with a hypnotic riffs sucking you in over and over. shine is more upright techno, but the rock solid kicks are still draped with rippling, static coated chords that ripple out in all directions. rotundum closes things out with synth waves gently breaking over hunched drums that build the pressure. it’s tense and engaging while remaining thoroughly atmospheric.

kevin arnemann and daan kemps taped artifact record label is prepping its first release of 2017. following the labels recently released various artists compilation, the amsterdam based imprint welcomes two pioneers within the icelandic techno scene: ohm & octal industries. ohm earned his stripes through his collaborations with exos in the early 00s, whilst octal industries is a much-respected artist within the idm scene under his ruxpin alias. with the highly dub-influenced maoss ep, the icelandic duo follows up their recent appearance on thors renowned thule records. the four-tracker features highly textured, rhythmical and classic rooted dub techno, showcasing the iconic icelandic aesthetic.

for its fifth release, amsterdam’s taped artifact offers up a various artists ep that features four tracks including one from the boss, kevin arnemann, as well as hiver, elmer and physical therapy. it is a moody and atmospheric deep techno offering that fits in with the label’s ever more singular aesthetic

cult italo post-wave group cristalli liquidi are back with another 12- maxi single. this time the production was carried out by the godfather of italian electronic music alexander robotnick with some mysterious intervention from bottin. sciame (italian for swarm) hits harder on the dancefloor then their previous releases, without losing a single drop of the italo lyrical magic.

kevin arnemann and daan kemps taped artifact label clocks up its fourth release with a three track offering from outlaw rec boss and key part of the italian serendipity club, namely matthew oh. matthew has previously released on his own label and others like side off, and eloquently marries dub, techno and house into smooth and sensuous sonic landscapes. the opening track psycho hub is an atmospheric and spacious roller with dubbed out drums and pads, coupled with incendiary hi hats urging you along. shroud is seven minutes of slick and spaced out deep techno with liquid synths and clacking hits all racing along and making for a frictionless groove that sucks you right in. finally, get in the fridge slows the tempo down and becomes an even more widescreen and roomy roller with suspensory pads, smeared synths and aqueous sonic details that make you feel like you are floating in sound.

(also known for robots are un-american, re-released on italians do it better last year). inspired by a lcd soundsystem song tinto b. comes with this great record! we cant find the connection to the lcd soundsystem track that supposed to have been his source of inspiration, and actually we dont care... its some of the best recent italo disco we ve heard in a while! if you are big on italo vocals the a side is for you, if instead you dig deep electro disco but without the chanting, the dub version on the flip side will more than certainly send you into italo space. another hot artifact release from mr. bottin. tip! rising new label deadplate records drop their second release: the first vinyl offering by artifact, with a remix by graphics. artifact is the main moniker of bristols ryan bonfield, an exciting new producer that merges the hard hitting sounds of dubstep with the swung rhythms of 2-step. with support coming from the likes of mary anne hobbs and mosca, those familiar with bristols offerings to the uk dance scene will already be familiar with artifacts music. if youve ever heard one of his dubs on a dance floor, you will have known – its hard not to take notice when they drop. the original tracks here are perfectly complimented by a remix of archaic line by oxford/london dj and producer graphics, bringing how own personal techno / dubstep influenced twist to the original.

to those of you who know your techno, shawn rudiman should be a well-known name. a prolific producer, he has nevertheless always kept his quality control on a tight leash, and releases on 7th city, technoir audio, integrated, dust science & matrix (amongst others) have brought him a reputation of being one of the finest producers around of contemporary detroit style (aka melodic) techno. a nice taster on the last minimalsoul release (sashimi hi) has hence led on to a full ep, and its classic stuff...tough beats and esoteric but catchy melodies all tied up with an expansive production ethic make for a great listen, and (perhaps unusually with this style of music) for a great dancefloor experience too!

a new year brings with it a new anoma. our third aural artifact is crafted by multi-faceted artisan radiq and features the vivacious vocals of do mi. the japanese artists composition hovers in the ether between jazz and electronic music and is coaxed through the scales in radiant fashion by miss mi. the groove and sonic elation of side a s used world propel the listener to a luscious cloud where you float on the voice to a destination unknown. follow-up track sugar roads is a saucy adventure down a brazen path that twists and turns with rhythm and a touch of vulnerable desire. etched onto the b-side is a drum-heavy statement enveloped in rich phonic elements and bolstered by a spectacular keys performance. raza bounces headstrong into an effervescent dome of glee, guided by the whisper of spoken words. laucolos colourful splash -verts- is the leaf-like mural that shrouds the 12inch vinyl treat.

saints & sonnets drop its fifteenth release, the perth & kinross ep coming courtesy of quell. nikolas raptis aka quell is a greek producer currently residing in berlin, germany and since dropping his debut material back in 2007 has gone on to deliver output for labels such as ibadan, kolour, 2020vision and tsuba. here we see raptis join the saints & sonnets roster, following recent releases from artifact, jabru and three bar.
