doorly s reptile dysfunction continues to prove itself to be one of the most vibrant and singular labels around, this time tapping up legendary producer jaydee for its latest release. jaydee is a dance music pioneer. best know for the seminal plastic dreams - a track that, somewhat terrifyingly for those who remember it the first time around, will be celebrating its 25 th anniversary next year - he has continued to be a leading light in innovative house and techno productions, releasing on r&s and ellum audio in the last few years. here, he teams up with fellow dance music visionary doorly for a searingly brilliant release on the latter s reptile dysfunction imprint. acid pressure ep presents two original cuts from jaydee, with supporting remixed from doorly and trooko. kicking things off, back into acid opens with stunningly heartfelt pads before building to a killer acid line via shimmering percussion and erotically charged vocal snatches. bring the pressure is more direct: a house roller softened by basic channel-esque chords and with added rhythm courtesy of the accompanying ragga chants. on the remix front, doorly flips back into acid into something far more menacing, with fierce synths stabs and rolling drums creating a head down stomper, while trooko chops back into pressure into pieces, crafting a thumping main room house cut from the constituent parts, complete with an epic, piano-led breakdown.

david mayer needs little introduction. affiliated with the flourishing keinemusik label his output as a producer and a dj over the last 9 years has been massive, forging his name as an expert in percussive precision funked up and pounding 4/4 driven deep techno and house. his recent remix of connected release ‘lust’ (tigerskin and k.e.e.n.e feat elli) was testament to his classic treatment resulting in a huge track that featured heavily on dancefloors worldwide.

it was the 23rd century, mankindÆs darkest hour. the war had been raging for almost a hundred years. we had been fighting for so long, no one could even remember the reason why it all started in the first place. for decades millions died for the same piece of rock. again and again and again. the hope was to start over, free from the prejudices that had divided us for so long. that was 800 years ago. when we came here to rebuild our lives. weÆve come a long way since then, we have grown, we have prospered, we have flourished, but we will never forget.

mister mellow moves further away from the synthesizer-heavy sounds of the recent washed out releases and more band-driven sound of his work on iconic labels sub pop in america, and domino in europe. on mister mellow, greene draws from the experimental collage techniques of musique concrète and plunderphonics artists such as the residents. combining styles as diverse as free jazz, house, hip-hop and psych together with interlude-esque voiceover samples, often pulled from anonymous youtube vlogs, he creates a busy, chaotic, and caricaturish mix that mirrors the claustrophobic, hyper-stimulated psyche so familiar to young adults. as he continues to carve out his innovative sonic identity, influenced by the world around him but unafraid to buck trends, it’s fitting that greene has partnered with legendary hip hop label stones throw records, long a home for beat-loving musical rebels. his approach to releasing music is every bit as individual, too: in an environment where compiling singles into an album format or working with a single video director are the norm, greene has chosen to commission eleven different artists to bring the visual aspect of his fully-realised album project to life. on mister mellow, washed out steers clear of emotion to empathise with the minutiae of the world around him. ive been much less interested in sentimentality and emotion for the past couple of years, says greene, in some ways, i think its a reaction against getting older and having more responsibilities. maybe i’m just nostalgic for a time in my life where i could just relax and block out the world for a moment. though mister mellow is an intensely personal album, its ideas and observations speak to the lived experience of so many young adults, an experience that we come to see as both funny and sad.

for over forty years, the apostles of aba have stood as the jewel in the crown of the music scene in eastern nigeria. since their formation in 1973, the band has turned out memorable performances in a variety of styles including rock, soul, funk, pop and reggae. even today, the apostles continue to thrill audiences in their hometown of aba with dazzling shows. cultures of soul is proud to present one of the apostlesã more obscure¨yet relentlessly funky recordings in a full-color custom reverse board jacket. banko woman, originally released on the eponymous lp on love day records in 1977. straddling the world realms of afro-funk and disco, the track has long been a coveted dance floor filler amongst djs, and for the first time is available for a wider audience. on the b-side is faith, luck & music, also from the original banko woman album.

naoki e-jima s disc shop zero record store in tokyo holds a special place in our hearts. since before idle hands was even established, when rooted records was king, the cosy, liberally stocked shop has served as a sympathetic outpost for bristol s rich culture of soundsystem music. over the years, naoki has championed all the best music to come from our fair city, from smith & mighty through to pinch and pev and on to the output from our own humble label. it s been a vital connection to help our music reach the right heads on the other side of the world, in turn providing a platform for our most treasured artists to gig and further the cause of the music we love. as a thank you for all the support naoki has shown bristol music over the years, idle hands has put together a special tribute 10inch of tracks that chime with his particular musical tastes, shining a light on some complementary gems that might have otherwise never seen the light of day. its also a chance to fill in the missing idle013 catalogue number – fortunately, the number 13 does not represent bad luck in japanese culture. on the a-side, the mighty (pun intended) rob smith takes to a track from outboxx s debut album, originally intended for a remix 12inch that never came to be. in his learned hands, lost soul becomes a shimmering stepper marked out by beautiful cascading arpeggios and of course plenty of fulsome bass, with arresting fragments of vocal drifting in and out of the mix for good measure. rob s status as a true legend of bristol music needs no explanation, but his presence here is furthermore because naoki is such a fan of his music. on the b-side, atki2 makes a welcome return to the label after bringing a classic ray of sunshine to idle hands on the second single we ever put out. as well as being a big release for us, it was apparently huge at disc shop zero, so it feels right to bring the effervescent hes royal to this 10inch release. with a sunny disposition at heart, these two tracks make sense sharing a 10inch, but it s even more fitting that they sit side by side as we doff our caps to a true hero of the global underground. thanks, naoki.

running a label with the ambition to push new and unique voices isn t always an easy task. while finding new artists is about as hard as finding a black t-shirt in berlin, most budding artists seem pressured to conform or mimic the already established, only to be heard. performing under the artist name bleie, oakland resident sarah bly is not one of them. originally hailing from seattle, she indeed works with the mortar of techno form, but uses different bricks altogether. it s a hard sound to articulate, at first, it s almost alienating to ears worn by years in dark clubs. its mercurial, yet still surprisingly club compatible nature makes it an aural tiger balm – it burns and soothes at once. this compositional depth is perhaps a result of bleie s background as a trained pianist and violinist, by which she transmutes the commonly associated tropes of the genre. bleie lets the elements rule over the form, giving the tracks a morphing and unpredictable feel. obviously we were instantly intrigued when stumbling across her music, and now extremely proud to present her vinyl debut certainty is only a feeling . four tracks of unique techno so brimfully suggestive that it s nearly peerless. we can t imagine this leaving anyone unaffected.

hero wouters is a dutch artist who has been active since 1950. through the years he has been involved in many (music) projects. his work in the field of electronic music ranges from synthpop to experimental music. some people might know him from his collaborations with the legendary pink dots and edward ka-spel. other people might know him from his contributions to the obscure contactdisk vinyl series or his appearance on the legendary dutch ding-dong tape label. featured on this lp is work by hero wouters from 1982, 1984, and 1986. most of the material was written for a dutch film (‘een zaak van leven en dood’) and a theatre play (‘laios’). the music has been (partly) released on cassette on hero’s own label herophone. now it is for the first time available on vinyl. the music has been restored from the original tapes and mastered for vinyl with great care not to loose the original feeling. below you can find soundclips for the tracks but we feel these do not give a really good impression of the record. the music (and the record) have to be heard in total (and as a whole) to be fully experienced and appreciated. we are proud to present this beautiful and simply fantastic music by a dutch artist that deserves more attention. the wonderful cover artwork is a drawing by maaike.

billy green is dead is jehst’s first album of original material in 6 years, and will be released 16th june on his own label, ynr productions. the project is co-executive produced by beat butcha (rick ross, curren$y, jadakiss), features production from paul white (danny brown, open mike eagle) and jehst himself, plus guest vocals by eric biddines, strange u, confucius mc, mysterious rnb man ennio lion and more.

with the second release noland tracks moves from nigeria to poland: non human persons saturn melancholia is an early song of the polish band based on guitar & voice + processor, recorded in warsaw some years ago. with their remix gebrüder teichmann turned the song into a sacral techno anthem. a deep and dark trip with nico in the heart and mdma in the blood. the b-side features the original track plus a beautiful hand carved image by brenda alamilla.

golconde is a work of contemplation. eleven tracks infused with the burning lyricism of blues and the cold charms of electronics, extracted after years studying the organic facets of synthesis.

rat life is back with more unheard material from the hidden bedroom studios of east germany. one day in metropia - is a project that was active around the year 2008 - operating out of the concrete suburbs of dresden. its main focus were live appearances in the citie s underground electronic music circle. just a few signals of its enormous creative output were published on various sound carriers to this day. so it was time to release some more of this large bulk of data that has been lurking on storage devices for years. rat life s operator credit 00 is proud to be allowed to contribute a remix version to this sonic document. have a nice day in metropia!

four years after his excellent eclipse 12-, roberto auser is back on a rotterdam staple: pinkman. color your soul has adopted some, but not all, of its older brother s attributes. lumbering with menacing intent, the title piece leaves wreckage in its bruising wake. -do you want to believe- is cut from the same deviant cloth. grunting rhythms stomp on tortured strings, industrial shrieks cry beneath the boot of a raging beat. the closer, -wake u up-, has auser toying with his victim. steam hisses, acid lines bulge, pistons pound and sirens blare in this boiled work of brooding brutality.

industry veteran paolo martini is next to join the emerald city family with red rocks. bringing the funk, he delivers a solid two-track release with irresistible groove and dance-floor disco heat. paolo martini has been in the business for over 30 years, first releasing with gianni bini on various labels such as defected, strictly rhythm, universal, azuli and nervous. they soon established their own label ocean trax and handled remixes of kylie minogue and jamiroquai. paolo has also been testimonial for several clothing brands including diesel and adidas and also the rane mp2015 mixer. his following co-productions can be found on acclaimed labels such as hot creations, snatch!, moon harbour, 8bit, saved and cecille amongst many others. 2017 starts the beginning of a new adventure with a string of releases geared up under his new solo project.

it had been four years since juxtaposition, radians last record. chimeric is not a polished album. within the context it is raw, broken, even dark sometimes. steady, multiple rhythms, layered on top of each other disappear into chaos and turn back into discreet structures in the next moment. references of rock music, executed with the precision of a sequencer, mutated, restructured. a lot on this album is about control and the loss of control. the risk of failure. but chimeric is much more free. some of the longer pieces are composed of very different parts and different colours along a continuous timeline. they tend to evolve in a narrative form and are moving through various scenes and surroundings, which is also present in the spacial relationship between the instruments.

u-roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed the originator for good reason. bursting onto the jamaican scene in the early 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called “toasting,” which in addition to bringing jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an american vocal style also in its infancy: rapping. following up the record store day 2017 release of u-roy’s classic dread in a babylon, traffic entertainment group now brings us a very welcome reissue of the vocalist’s 1976 full-length (and fourth) album, natty rebel, which has been out of print for more than 30 years. produced by tony robinson (known for his work with big youth, lloyd parks, the gladiators and many more), the album’s 11 cuts range from bouncier and sometimes even disco-tinged grooves – “have mercy,” “go there natty” and the album lead-off, “babylon burning” – to the classic roots stepping that drew fans to the legendary jamaican vocalist over his long career – including “so jay jah say” and “natty kung fu.” at its core, this is a deep journey into the heart of rasta living, spoken by one of jamaica’s most underrated dub and roots legends, and it’s one of the strongest full-lengths in his expansive catalog. whether you are experiencing u-roy for the first time, or replacing your decades-old original lp, diving into this reissue of natty rebel is one hell of a way to spend an afternoon. or, if you’re not careful, a week or two.

schuttle makes a sublime and sludgy debut with this cassette for paris/peckham label, panatype. all of the tracks are made using astronomical data in some way, a passion for the young newcastle-based producer over the years that he was putting the release together. predominantly a beatless record, and certainly intended to be listed to as a whole, schuttle uses the art of the loop to provide the listener with “an inner peace in outer space”

the trickfinger project was recorded 10 years ago with no intention of being released at the time, made purely for discovery and learning experience. in my opinion, making music with no intention of releasing it is the best thing a musician can do for his own development in this day and age. the trickfinger lp was made in that mindset, and it was the beginning of a new musical life for me. when i hear it, it sounds like i am opening up doorways to new worlds, and i never have had that feeling listening to music i made for the purpose of releasing it and selling it.

new imprint bogen konzept recordings first release comes from todd sines under his cron alias. two previously released cuts from 1994 and two immaculate productions from 2017 coded and compiled by this well known artist. bogen konzept recordings is run by the namesake bogen konzept store based in kassel, germany and is very excited and proud to announce the opening of his new own label. after many years of parties, clubbing and researching we decided to move another step up the ladder with this addition ... or addiction.

osf is happy and proud to announce a new 12-inch by its founder, nur jaber. the label was conceived by the staub resident as her very own creative platform, a place for her to not just release uncompromising music, but also to print poems, letters and in the case of this record, even direct a video. based in berlin, the young producer who was born in beirut remains very attached to her roots. this background partially explains why she can be inspired by tragic events happening regularly in the middle east - making brave statements in the mostly apolitical electronic music environment. the past years have seen nur embrace a career as a music producer, seeing her slowly and steadily become an original new voice in the techno landscape. this ep showcases nur s ability to create and combine daunting atmospherics and frantic paces. it is dark and twisted, with its vocals and screams, but always driving. weapons of mass destruction is meant for banging crazy dance floors, but it is also personal and almost cathartic, especially in the current political situation surrounding all of us. the artwork, as always, is put together by osf family members the beholder and beauty&machines.

it has been eleven long years since urbs dropped his last album which was called “toujours le meme film”. back then, the musician, dj and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious film noir, which was released on kruder & dorfmeister‘s g-stone label, but after touring europe he almost completely retreated from public life. he does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest –untitledalbum.

2 years ago, we celebrated our 10 years with 5 anniversary eps entitled 10 by ten, where we asked 10 of our favorite artists to write an exclusive track for the occasion. two of the stand out tracks were martin iveson - aka atjazz - leave me here as well as art of tones, koniokola, which we thought deserved a second life. freerange and delusions of grandeur boss, jimpster, blesses us with his deep yet driving rendition of leave me here, while fred everything chooses to update koniokola with a more dance floor approach and a strip down dub. we also included the original of leave me here which was never available on vinyl.

it’s been 3 years since the last basic soul unit ep on lab.our and the label co-head is back to top form! loose, melodic and funky, the toronto producer stretches his legs across 4 tracks in this kaleidoscopic gem of an ep. on a1 is ‘behavoural issue’, a frenetic, crunchy and off-kilter number that will have you contorted in distortion with all arms and legs on the dancefloor. ‘rising over the east’ marches in next, a deep jacking head trip to the orient opium den with its endless arpeggiators. on the b-side, the heavy broken club banger ‘propulses’ harkens back to the glory rave days without mimicry. a basic soul unit interpretation with his undeniable footprint in the mix. ‘my heart skips’ turns the dial down several notches into deeper house terrain. the soulful ride begins as an easy cruise before deftly lurching into an odd rhythmic fractal workout that the producer has become known for. sealing an untouchable reputation in the world of broken soulful lo-fi techno, basic soul unit casts an even wider net to captivate audiences with this must-have ep.

no-attitude is a new label based out of east london and spearheaded by label front man, enzo tedeschi. music producer, dj, and now, record label owner, he knows no other career path but dance music. playing clubs, parties, and underground warehouses for close to 20 years and crafting numerous events in london, uk and naples, italy, his years of experience combined with a solid label team and devoted artists will one day make no-attitude a name to contend with. the label is supported by a monthly party in east london.

official re-issue of bermudian disco record! 1000 copies initial pressing. big tip! in 1981, bermudian band paradise recorded sizzlin hot, a flawless album of original material in the disco, boogie and aor style. producer, writer and pianist grant williams formed several bands before becoming the fourth member of paradise, alongside bassist wincy woolridge, drummer ronnie lopes and singer june ventzos whose voice commands the album. for five years, the group regularly performed in hotels before hitting the local z.b.m. studios to record their sole album. sizzlin hot is inspired by the sound of earth, wind & fire. the album delivers several blistering tracks that could have been huge club anthems if the record had been promoted outside of bermuda. since bermuda is a fairly remote island, its no wonder that paradise remains virtually unknown to this day. it is all the more reason why this album stands-out and has universal appeal though it was only ever intended as a local thing as grant williams says.

this is a must have record and supplies are extremely limited. long out of print and extremely sought after, david porter’s “i’m afraid the masquerade is over” gets a proper re-issue on 45, but with a special twist. first released in 1972, this groundbreaking masterpiece was mostly overlooked by the masses of that generation. however, twenty plus years later, hip hop producers would revive newfound interests in this cut (and porter’s other works) after sampling bits & pieces of it for some of the most defning songs of the mid 90’s and early 2000’s (who shot ya, duel of the iron mic, it’s over, etc). for this special edition, the original multi-track session was resurrected from the archives, re-polished and re-edited into a brand new mix for your listening pleasure. familiar fans will go emoji crazy once they get a taste of the exclusive new version that boasts new breaks, alternate takes and a louder, fuller instrumental presence among other goodies, creating fresh opportunities for beats and lives mixes. pushing the 9 minute mark, parts 1 & 2 are presented between 2 sides, presenting the all of music in it’s entire glory. original pressings of “i’m afraid the masquerade is over” are not easy to come by. own this collector’s item while you can. “must have” vinyl for dj’s, producers and anyone else on the hunt

over the past three years melbournes albrecht la brooy have patiently cultivated their own space within australias prolific electronic music scene. deeply rooted in technos ambient influences, the duo improvise their compositions with an overarching approach that breaks away from techno s conventional presentation. recorded in one take from beginning to end, escape velocity sees albrecht la brooy take on the voyage aesthetic and principles to create a twenty five minute odyssey spanning four passages, to be played continuously across the 12inch medium. utilising both sparse, drifting ambient palettes and driving, machine-led rhythms, escape velocity is a pensively uplifting account of future travels through space and the ninth installment to the voyage catalogue. both sides of the vinyl are cut as continuous sides.

ltd repress --- after his comeback album on morphine in 2014, sote marks his return to rhythm by taking part in repitchÆs 10inch series with a banging twotracker extracted from his more than 20 years old unreleased archive. ôneuroenhancerö produced in 1995 is a heavyduty techno drilling machine, pairing an oldschoolmillslike groove with a throbbing mass of modular synths. on the other side ôin music i trustöÆs main engine is an incandescent hardcore/jungle beat, haunted by spacedout vocals in the darkness. the track was produced in 1997 with friend æsafarÆ a san francisco based dj/producer, shortly after sote&#835,,,,s initial experiments with jungle and drum n bass pre his warp ep in 2002.

get 2 know nicky benedek: a producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and dj. his compositions bridge the nebulous territories of house, boogie, hip-hop, jazz-fusion and experimental new age. born and bred in los angeles, benedek began pulling inspiration from the city’s structural and visual dichotomies at a young age. he picked up a guitar at 9 years-old, taking note of any and all sonic surroundings, from prevalent west coast g-funk to the synthesized sound effects in video games to a herbie hancock record pulled from his dad’s collection. amongst a complex set of influences, funk took a hold on his heart by high school. bene’s world is benedek’s second leaving records release, following last year’s coolin’ ep as well as a full-length debut on the influential peoples potential unlimited label. his catalogue also includes collaborations with dam-funk, delroy edwards and tom noble. recorded between his koreatown studio and the west la home he grew up in, bene’s world captures the characteristically-la mingling of urban action and canyon seclusion.

before there was a man in black, there were the sun records years, when cash began defining his peculiar and witty version of country music. born in arkansas in 1932, cash began recording as a top artist for sun records, for which he released his first full-length lp. this double lp set documents all the hits from 1955 to 1958, before cash signed to columbia records. these 35 “first steps” helped build the legend and are considered the milestones of an incredible career that ended with those passionate and soulful albums on the “american recordings” series released between 1994 and 2003, the year jr cash died on sept 12.

latest installment from eleve music is produced by madrid duo uanamani. derk and iterbio have been studying sound and spinning records for many years, and currently uanamani is one of the top local live acts in underground events in madrid. their analog multi-instrumental set up digs classic ambient and deep techno which morphs into a live organism, with tribal touchs from around the world. they join eleve inviting us to dive into their myths. during the journey, expect first class deep techno with bursts of reverberant hihats, syncopated percussions and harmonic wind whistlings, blurring the lines between adventure and mystery. the organic feeling is present through the whole ride with mutating arpeggios that will make the most obscure rituals go hypnotic.

from 4lux to ten thousand yen, earl jeffers has been serving up plenty of upfront good time house music over the past few years, as well as steering the equally on point chesus alias. now he sidles over to the new melange label with byron the aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. eira is where byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. the demo mix of eira resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that s no less satisfying on the ears.

young adults return to the fold with another gem from the polish underground. having bubbled up in the polo house scene for the last couple years, 2017 finds richu m stepping into the forefront for his debut outing donor goes to hawaii . rhythm-centric, but varied in approach, the 6-tracker traverses swirling techno, heady thumpers, muddy beatscapes and throwback boom bap. simultaneously airy and off-kilter, the release shows a breadth of approach that is not easily pigeonholed, but feels vaguely familiar. opener round soundtracks a laser tag pursuit scene with swayed synths, chattering percussion, and pitch-shift vocal echoes. the title track donor goes to hawaii takes a dilla bounce kit to the beach and gets the vibraphone and organ all sandy. jazzy piano loops and squelchy synths stack wobbly layers high like jenga blocks on aquarian mummies . pistaccio gets subterranean with infectious skittered patterning and a proper bump to boot. picking up the pace, melting dolphins is a funky floor filler. finale landskates blisses out with floating pads and a meditative drumroll.

after the success of last years debut ep onemind are back with more music on metalheadz, and coming along for the ride are a couple of friends in total science and throwing snow as they follow in the footsteps of ulterior motive and om unit (who both featured on ep1). ep2 is a prelude to onemind’s forthcoming album and is a sure sign of what to expect as the duo showcase an abundance of talent, from the heavy and well refined sounds of late addition to the spine-tingling pressure of early daze, they really do have it all covered.
