we dont question the relevance of techno in the current musical landscape, but look back ten years or so and youll figure things were a little stagnant and uninspiring. the techno scene in berlin certainly did a lot to spruce new life in the genre and people like merbeck with his vault series releases were somehow pioneers of the industrial-influenced sound we now celebrate and take for granted. now landing on m_rec ltd. with a 3 track ep, the berlin resident fuses his aggressive sound with the hypnotic, dark-room elements that have defined the labels vision. m_rec ltd. starts 2015 with a nasty release: three tracks that fit any moment of a proper techno set.

op.discs highly acclaimed 2013 double pack from radiq aka yoshihiro hanno receives some heavy reworking from three of his label mates, fumiya tanaka, akiko kiyama and aoki takamasa. fumiya tanakas reinterpretation provides an extensive, deep down edition of vida noir and renders the original beats into a minimal bass behemoth of a track that clocks in at almost ten minutes. akiko kiyama shows her peerless talent in her revision of rondo. the beats and pieces are sticking like glue each other to render exotic and mesmerizing aspect of radiqs original. aoki takamasa shows his further involvement into minimalism on his version of calling, channels a micro-house groove into a multilayered beast.

to create new backgrounds, you have to break the old rules, this is kitkatone debut on arts, this release is a massive combination of different landscapes in techno that you never heard before.

what better way to follow up andy meechams (chicken lips / emperor machine) huge gino fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from balearic chieftains pete herbert & stratus as one half of reverso 68 alongside phil mison, and in his own right pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he’s more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin’ guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor martin jenkins and mat anthonys stratus outfit (remember their superb *spring tide ep* on aficionado last year ?) take a pop at the sublime konkondo on the flip and what a masterpiece it is ! a ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90s style balearic epic.

the swedish trance duo son kite is back, releasing their first album in ten years. and they are on a mission. *dancing is a very important ritual. our main mission as artists is to make people get into this trance state*, they say. since the release of their third album *colours* in 2004, marcus henriksson and sebastian mullaert have been focusing on their other project minilogue, touring the world and gaining increasing popularity in the house and techno scene. with *prisma*, released on november 17th and consisting of seven tracks made between 2007 and 2014, the duo leaps back to the endless energy and enthusiasm they felt when they first started making music together in 1996. and back to what it is all essentially about, according to the two musicians: getting into the all-important dance ritual and reaching the trance state.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.
