hailing from the rhythm plate multiverse, pressed for time is one of the many outposts carrying the work of matlock s finest house music protagonists. reaching beyond the regular roster of goshawk, yse and the full-blown plate, this latest transmission calls on deep cover uk house crew brs, also known as british rhythm services, who step up with some crucial workouts for sophisticated dancefloors. the quartet of ben vecara, rob evans, steve wilson & dom thompson have a sizable legacy behind them, not least from the early 00s when they were regularly rolling out releases for the likes of 20:20 vision, cyclo and friends & families. after a quiet patch their return is marked out by a broad spectrum of deep house delights locked onto the kind of shuffled grooves that rhythm plate heads should be more than happy with, and plenty of loose, live-sounding keys to boot.

nigh/tmare’s most recent ep, entitled “hypnagogia” on thrènes records, is the perfect example of the artist’s uncompromising attitude. the integral work on this project is the perfect sublimation of experimental overtones, rugged beats, and techno punch, making for a candid, outstanding, and diverse approach with a lot of edge.

so gerd and philipp were due to play xoyo one saturday night and the club is 6 minutes from my studio so i suggested we go there first to make tunes for a few hours. we made 2 songs that night and one of them is ‘reach out’. gerd did the drums on my 808, philipp wrote the beautiful lead part on my obxa and i did the bass in my cs80. i added the words a couple of weeks later, they are inspired by leonard cohen’s letter to his muse marianne ihlen on her deathbed. dj vas is primarily known as a member of pioneering 90s french house band, kojak. when the 1.0 french touch wave was blowing the world, kojak was one of the fourth most popular acts in france alongside daft punk, air or cassius. they built a strong reputation with more than 25 singles, 2 albums, 1 dj compilation and more than 30 remixes with amongst them the famous one for “deep inside” by mary j blidge. now more focused on his solo career, this talented dj, producer and beatmaker maintains a stylish wide musical vision, and manages to find the perfect balance between styles. for this specific project, dj vas practiced the very special game of soul-funk and disco edits. following the recent acclaimed release of his re-edits & more vol.1 (edr017), he’s now back on edr records with a second volume even hotter: 4 new tracks made for the dancefloor, finely cut and re-produced in complete new versions!! his production is a brilliant mix between fine techniques, deep respect of the originals and real personality. and with their new fixed tempo, these forgotten treasures should quickly find a new life close to modern productions. in short, dj vas music is contagious, warm and always sharp!!

uncage founder marco faraone makes his second appearance on rekids with a massive vocal cut entitled ‘on my way’, featuring a remix from 50weapons and hyperdub’s addison groove. the italian techno producer had an active year touring in 2017, dropping only one release on tenax recordings. however, 2018 is already proving to be one of his busiest on the production front, with releases appearing on rekids special projects, on edge society and his own label uncage, not to mention forthcoming appearances on gigolo and avotre. he now returns to rekids with his biggest sounding record yet. with its infectious vocal, rolling kicks and off-beat hats, it is undeniable that ‘on my way’ is destined to become one of this year’s most recognisable club tracks. on the flip, bristolian producer and swamp 81 affiliate addison groove has produced an intricate remix featuring a cacophony of percussion as a stuttering low-end joins chilling synths. finally, faraone concludes the package with a ‘dub acid rework’, losing the vocals whilst incorporating heady 303 licks.

the mushrooms project are well known for their sleazy mid-tempo laid-back percussive style, a sound that immediately resonated with rising stars and newly signed label mates earthboogie. specifically it was ‘dubby bolas’ from the italian duo’s 2016 album ‘rivea corymbosa’ album that really excited earthboogie and equally, the mushrooms were fans of the afro disco sound the londoners displayed on their debut track ‘route ten to interzone’. the mutual appreciation led to this remix project and now, released exclusively for record store day 2018, their complementary productions styles collide with great effect.
