07042016 (live at st.paul s anglican church, athens) is the debut album of modal analysis, brought by the greek experimental band of mmmd (also known as mohammad). nikos veliotis and ilios are currently performing as the mmmd duo, with further focus on deep monolithic sounds, low frequencies, inter-modulations, dark textures, and distant folk nuances through custom made instruments (cello & electronic bass) and software. the release carries parts of the mmmd live performance at st.pauls anglican church in athens, recorded on the 7th of april 2016. the concert was hosted by fasma festival, on the opening day of its 2016 edition.

originally released in 1992 and 1993 the nex ep and poundstretcher ep have become incredibly sought after on vinyl. however, the poundstretcher ep was always cut too low with 4 tracks aside. we are now taking both ep’s and remastering them to 3 loud pieces of vinyl.
the sleeve will be a specially designed piece of art just for this project, while the label on the 3 records will represent the original releases, keeping that authentic dj nex vibe!

brendon moeller offers up his set in motion ep on echocord sub-label echo echo this september, comprising three originals from the dub techno veteran. south africa, new york based producer and dj brendon moeller aka beat pharmacy/echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out techno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, berghain and cielo as well as releases on labels like third ear, kimochi, neovinyl and echocord. here though we see moeller joining the roster of the latter’s sublabel echo echo, marking its fourth release. title-track set in motion leads with brendons signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. eastern beach follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. economy then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps.

reworking a big tune is never a simple task, especially if after 7 years the tune in question is still one of the highlights in shows of one of the worlds most beloved live act performers, kink. that s only half of the story though, as the tune got a lot of love from so many dj s all over the globe. however, for the 17th burek release, we wanted to do something really special and what could be better than giving new life to a piece of music which literally gave life to our label. and we gathered some very interesting people for the job.

my favorite robots next release is a very special remix by dj tennis. it initially comes as a 10 white vinyl and will then be available digitally in autumn. mfrs ‘barricade was first released on dj tenniss life and death label back in 2012. it was a huge house track that resonates to this day, so it makes sense the taste- making italian steps up to remix it. he is someone with a cultured take on brooding house and techno, as evidenced by the music he a&rs for his label as well as things like his own standout dj-kicks mix from last year. his new remix is a masterfully melancholic one that starts with a delicate ambient synth line hanging in mid air. breathy vocals eventually arrive to send shivers down the spine and finally, deep, rolling, mid tempo kicks bring a groove that carries you away into a reverie. its made all the more mournful and poignant thanks to some broad synth chords and swirling pads later on and is sure to provide a real centre point of any seriously emotional set. this is a stunning and absorbing single and another high point for my favorite robot records.

rhythm is life and life is rhythm. not only is it our mantra here at neighbour recordings, it s also inspired the title of our debut release from brand-new production partnership and label owners base pilot aka quantec and birke tm. featuring four original tracks, the life is rhythm ep is a full thirty minutes of dope, low-slung house that perfectly unites the duo s many years of shared passion for deep electronic music. identify is the ideal introduction, swirling synths and deceptively hypnotic, it s a proper crafty cut, whilst ghosts leans towards a more emotive and subtle groove. title track life is rhythm is a warm and inviting ten-minute epic of chunky beats, quirky distortion and vocoded vocal snatches, whereas closing number on the early is seriously heads-down and deep. repeat after us, rhythm is life and life is rhythm.

highly revered techno dj/producer ilario alicante has unveiled his brand new luce ep, consisting of four fresh tracks on cocoon recordings. recognised as a dj of the highest order whilst playing at berghain when he was still only 21, ilario continues to go from strength to strength. an integral member of the respected cocoon family, ilario alicante has become a regular at cocoon ibiza, elrow and dc10 during his career so far. made up of the titled track luce, a cosmic production packed with synth-laced flutters, and the more dancefloor-ready scelta ilario showcases his eclectic nature across the release. using a high tempo through the shudders of cocoon, the italian rounds off the ep with the deeply atmospheric sensa with the latters rattles adding an intense nature to the production.

scion of the urals this devotee called gedevaan drops a notable classy non-moscow sound. the city where music can be fake, where anyone can lie to you, where anything can be sold and re-sold for a higher price. where constantly you suffer from major vanity and notorious capital speedy manner. moving to that town may change you with no warning. “class compliant” is more about authentic slow-burning undercurrents. smells like rest of russia the noise is out of massive roaring cities and their pre-harsh dummy lives. inclined to withdrawn and introspective synthesis gedevaan offers an original dim-light feel, warm-wet, woody swamps and mossy rocks. a velvet haze makes your vision blurry. just look! is it a baba yaga’s hut? track the music. to don’t forget about your roots. it’s pretty nice to accomplish with old stuff by perc and a brand new one of electric rescue - the pure primal perception with a high impact factor.

universal cave unleash the 10th release in their catalogue with the universal cave wizards and dynamic duo superprince sharing the re-edit duties. universal cave provide the goods for the a side firing off a percussion heavy, latin flavoured bomb in lambada - just wait for those epic fills, sure to whip any crowd into raptures. take your time (universal cave s 909 rubdown) then lays up a hip house vocal flavoured, 909 enhanced 80 s bomb. flip it over and superprince take the reigns with your kind of love - funked up disco goodness, reworked with an extra helping of devilshness. the last slice of gold, hang high takes the tempo down to a string swelling, souped up, cosmic swagger. two sides, two artists but four entrancing edits to add to the universal cave repertoire.

sugardaddy are a uk electronic music duo formed in 2006 and is the musical brainchild of tom findlay (one half of groove armada) and singer song writer tim hutton (hybrid, groove armada, way out west) “hypnotise- has an altogether late 80 s heavy, low slung, boogie vibe, caressed with beautifully haunting yet soulful vocals. greg wilson remixes an extended rework, holding the vibe of the original and effortlessly extending certain aspects of the groove, creating a 9 minute dancefloor monster! situation are next up with a late night, deep house dub interpretation which builds to a discoesque guitar licked, infectious, yet hypnotic bombshell bittersuite finish the release with a chunky funk fuelled version, full of slap bass and a bucketful of soaring, atmospheric synths, cleverly weaving those wonderful vocals and building to an electro jazz funk masterpiece.

hailing out of montreal, 00:am follow up their killer first release with a four track va e.p. setting their stall out as a label to watch in 2018. the hutchin crew open up proceedings with an ethereal and hypnotic cut, coupling sweeping pads with dreamy keys. next up, dj ok takes things darker layering thudding toms and atmospheric strings with a sci-fi sampled spoken word. on the b side, cromie & iron curtis let the pounding bass sit centre stage interspersed with otherwordly synthwork and that high hat fizz. finally, science fiction steers things on a new wave tip offering up a down-tempo french vocal tinged closer to round off this stellar e.p.

with the summer season well and truly in full step, mosaic returns with two finely tuned cuts of classic dubbed-out minimalism. a side in the night is a typically understated affair from label boss steve o sullivan under his wise caucasian alias. propelled by a bass-heavy tone and lit by layers of percussion that build on each other you ll find yourself getting lost in the washes of sparse vocals, rhythmic stabs and splashes of delay that reach out over the dance floor. far from providing instant gratification, this requires timely and repeated play to uncover the layers of subtle finesse and craftsmanship: perfect for keeping those feet moving at any hour of the night, or day for that matter. on the b side, steve teams up once again with fellow londoner, frazer campbell on rise which goes straight for the full smile effect as the duo conjure up one of those rare pieces of magic. set to a melee of skippy percussion, high-pitched toms and warmly toned melody, the prophetic voice of maya angelou and her timeless poem still i rise resonates supreme, bringing a touch of thoughtful intelligence thats all too often forgotten. as the track hits it peak, you cant help but feel the deep elation a groove like this brings in the darkest of hours.

jeremiah jae (aka black daffi) is an experimental hip-hop artist born and raised on the south side of chicago. he is a visual artist, producer, emcee and founding member of black jungle squad, a music collective consisting of close friends and family. early works by jae dating back to 2007, display his unique style and approach to crafting his own version of “hip-hop”. the genre is one of many foundations the artist uses to communicate his range of styles as shown on previous self-released albums, compilations and collaborations (holy smoke, oliver the 2nd, l’orange, cohenbeats, pbdy), as well as praiseworthy offerings on brainfeeder and warp records. with his newest solo album daffi, jae expands on his production and speaks in the persona of his alter ego to express a darker side.

iceland’s volruptus returns to bjarkis bbbbbb with five esoteric cuts titled alien agenda. releasing on bbbbbb at the end of last year, volruptus has emerged swiftly on the european party scene, with the icelandic artist popping up on line-ups all over the continent. following releases by norways eod and fellow icelandic talent, lord pusswhip, alien agenda is bbbbbbs third record of the year continuing bjarkis progressive tastes for innovative electronic scandinavian artists. first up, svi,nasti,a 3000 deploys a synthetic, fast-pitched techno revolver fused with space- induced, twisted modulations. a scratch tool titled itchy and scratchy show follows before launching into su,rmatur a celestial 303 synth line layered over scattered electro drums, together providing a magical transcendental experience. alien agenda is suitably an eccentric, idm tinged number – with shades of acid and powerful bass shrills becoming the focus here. last up, misanthropgy (dark stoff) provides an energetic rolling percussive loop, intensifying naturally through cryptic, high-pitched melodies.

rogue d is the new solo project from danny minchella. under this new moniker he delivers the eagerly awaited chains. set to be one of the biggest tracks of the year, its a high octane, club-ready number with abundant driving percussion. unstoppable force patrick topping is also back on home ground for the remix. chains was inspired by jamie 3:26s and cratebug’s edit of loretta holloway hit n quit - i wanted a simple, raw track, killer bassline and a soulful vocal. the process was very fast and i made the majority of the groove in one morning. i dug deep in my collection, looking for that special vocal and came across steve silk hurleys chain of fools (with aretha franklin on the original vocal), and it just made the record pop! - rogue d as an artist minchella has played some of the worlds most esteemed establishments and released on a wealth of high profile labels. he now aims to use his rogue d guise as a means to express his forward thinking and personal tastes in sound- from techno to old school garage to the sounds of detroit. he’s already released on dftd as well as providing a remix of soul claps misty on classic music company. in his relatively short career so far, label favourite patrick topping has made the cover of mixmag, won a coveted dj mag best of british award and made the resident advisor top 100 djs. hes released some of the biggest tracks on hot creations and is resident for jamie jones paradise at dc10. on his rework of chains, topping isolates the vocal and adds a tribal bounce to proceedings.

after the roaring success of last years route zero ep, headlined by the 2017 anthem low blow, were delighted to be welcoming benny l back to metalheadz for his debut main label release. one of the biggest names to emerge from drum and bass in the last few years, benny l has conjured up a scintillating ep crammed full of his own unique sounds, well and truly carrying on from where his last metalheadz appearance left off.

ellum black, the new sub-label of maceo plexs notorious imprint, focuses on the dark and intellectual side of techno. this second record instalment features spanish producer architectural. following an ep on the main branch of the label in 2017, juan rico aka architectural delivers 3 forward thinking cuts for this record. architectural is known for his detailed and magnetic productions and on ‘a girl with no friends ep’ he goes deeper into the hypnotic edge of his soundscape. the first track we hear ‘romanticism movement’ creates a statement for the vocabulary of sounds rico used for this record such as low frequencies and deep grooves. the title track follows on the b-side with develops on these textures. closing the trio ’never yours, boy’ finishes the ep with another variation of architectural’s romantic techno repertoire.

tachyon audio is a vinyl label that’s focused on sounds in the techno realm targeting sweaty, dark dance floors, with large, high-quality sound systems. inhabitants come back strong in mutations volume ii, tachyon audio’s second offering. these two primates are often found inhabiting dark spaces, forging ahead on complex math equations. their distinct, driving, mathematical, and drumming techno is a result. expect more solid work and performances from these two mysterious beings on tachyon audio as the label continues its progression. tachyon audio’s second release follows a similar format to the first, in that, tac002 is a diverse ep that touches on techno sounds that are helping to lead the march forward into the future of sound production and style. the second tachyon audio release also comes from the mysterious dark studio of inhabitants, who build off their first, and display their precise, technical forms of production. the a-side track, mut11 (a1) is a sci-fi exploration that pleases the ear with thick sub and low basses, along with a pitch-twisted melodic element, and the inhabitants distinct sound effects and automation. the track has a strong impact immediately, as you can feel the intensity of elements being added, manipulated, and combined, and a sturdy, grimy feel pervades the piece with an interesting driving rhythmic percussion.

washington dc’s rush plus drop four superb techno cuts entitled ‘the sweat ep’ on p.leone and caiazzo’s e-missions imprint this june. having dropped three quality releases on their own eponymous label, rush plus continue to turn heads with their imaginative productions, gaining support from the upper echelons of techno with names like rodhad, ben klock, dj spider, ben sims, slam, answer code request, dj deep and many more getting behind them. following up a release on ambivalent’s valence records, they now join p.leone and caiazzo’s rapidly rising e-missions imprint. ‘megabust’ initiates the package with twisted sci-fi synths and syncopated drums whilst rattling metallic elements operate throughout. intricate hits of percussion are soon followed by rumbling bass in ‘rebirth’ as the track gradually becomes more and more twisted using filtered effects and soaring pads, making way for the shuffling ‘sweat’ with its menacing stabs and echoing voices. finally, the package concludes with ‘slow release’ - a high-octane and ominous roller.
