it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled rekids special projects. a more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of john hester, markus suckut, and dj deep amongst others. first up is ohio-based producer fbk, real name kevin m. kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on frictional recordings back in the 90 s recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as marcel dettmann records, barba records and diametric. intricate drums and jagged synths initiate you are not fixed whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. ‘dynamonium’ then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before set it free ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. the final escape then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics

swiss duo me & her join the hottrax roster with a robust release featuring british duo dense & pika and detroit’s dj bone on remix duties. with recent appearances on deeperfect, natura viva and clarisse records, the rising duo has quickly cemented a reputation as ones to watch since making their production debut back in 2014. joining them on the release is dense & pika, who have been taking the world by storm whilst releasing on leading labels such as adam beyer’s drumcode, scuba’s hotflush, not to mention renowned uk imprint hypercolour. meanwhile, dj bone needs little introduction having paved the way for quality techno for over two decades including running his renowned subject detroit imprint. sturdy kicks and intricate effects drive ‘wild rage’ forward before introducing metallic snares and animated melodies. on the other hand, ‘thunderstruck’ is a dusky production composed of heady stabs and echoing elements that together generate a compelling groove. dense & pika’s shuffling remix of ‘wild rage’ shines a spotlight on a tantalizing synth as eerie nuances operate throughout, before dj bone concludes the package with a trippy and percussive reinterpretation of his own.

matuss takes techno and turns it on its head. the cybernetic sound has been filled with human emotion, giving it a more organic feel than much of the music that would fall under the genre. she opens her absence seizure 007 ep in trademark style, with a dark jacking cut entitled pitchureque, in which a pulsating bass line throbs alongside ominous acid swells and disorientating panning effects. next up, tektango takes a different route honing in on a set of live tribal tinged percussion, which sway and dissipate with hypnotic effect driven further into the depths with a bubbling synth lead and filtering atmospherics. this live percussion gives the track that organic feel mentioned earlier. escapade kick starts the b-side with a robust rhythm, built from the ground up with resonant hi hat stabs, echoing claps and sturdy kicks which forms the framework for a deranged lead melody laced with wide open synths and emotive chords to carry the groove. closing the package is fonque, where flanger-tinged snare rolls work in unison with driving rhythms, delicate arpeggios and an intricate 303 bass line to create an infectious closing cut.

rohey have toured extensively throughout scandinavia, taking in just about every major jazz festival along the way. with the release of “a million things” on jazzland recordings in early 2017, their path can be expected to take them ever further: music this good can t be kept secret for long. “a million things” performs a balancing act that most pop artists have forgotten in these days of studio micro-editing: how to write and play a song with full and sincere conviction, while enjoying an artful expressiveness without making things unnecessarily difficult for the audience. this has been borne out by their nomination for best single at the scandinavian soul awards in 2015.

savage times fing als experiment an und dokumentiert die unmittelbare, künstlerische entwicklung hanni el khatibs. ursprünglich wurde der großteil der songs auf savage times bereits zuvor auf fünf eps nach und nach veröffentlicht. diese compilation vereint alle eps und enthält zudem vier weitere, neue bonustracks. el khatib startete das projekt im dezember 2015. die aufnahmen zu den songs wurden in jonny bells (crystal antlers) jazz cats studios aufgenommen. dafür fuhr hanni el khatib täglich von l.a. nach long beach. auf der stundenlangen autofahrt kamen ihm oft die ideen für seine tracks. hanni el khatib wollte sich nicht mehr auf ein genre festlegen und ließ sich einfach von seinem musikalischen instinkt leiten. sobald ein song fertig produziert war, veröffentlichte er ihn. savage times zeigt, wie wandelbar sein sound ist: garage rock, punk, disco, grime und hip hop fügen sich hier konsistent ineinander, über die eigenen grenzen hinweg

hidden behind the ritmico alias comes an unexpected studio collaboration from emi & suciu, premiering their first release at contur records. on side a we are welcomed by sticlic ritm, a 14 minutes kick led journey that proposes an elusive string of nostalgic pads, burried deep into the track’s dna. for side b, naiv ritm uses the sharp percussions to sneak its fluid groove, cleverly covert into the bassline, directly into our electronic souls. in line with previous contur releases, the ritmico signed ep meets our highest expectations.

new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.
