since it’s inception in 1991 on the streets of glasgow, soma records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates. stuart mcmillan & orde meikle formed slam during the acid house explosion in the late 80’s and then together with friends glenn gibbons & dave clarke they forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well respected labels. with mcmillan & meikle as the figureheads with their slam project and influenced by the early detroit techno scene, soma quickly began to develop it’s own sound and with their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, the team began the quest to instill their unquenchable thirst for electronic music into the world around them. soma quickly became an international brand as slam’s anthemic “positive education” brought about an electronic renaissance that saw the group thrust into the limelight and green lit the furious rise of the label.

repress with green labels and green sticker on sleeve! luca lozano and dj fett burger return with part two of the three part hands of doom series. following on from the success of the recent sex tags ufo release, hands of doom 2 continues the tradition of early breakbeat and proto-rave inspired club tracks. three slices of rattling drums, low-end subs and bleeped out bleeps make for a cohesive and well informed ep and a welcome addition to the series. keep those peepers peeled for the third and final part, a full album from the duo on luca lozanos grafiti tapes series.

moka only has released an instrumental version of his latest lp, concert for one, via urbnet. concert for one instrumentals was released digitally on july 6th 2018 and as a limited edition vinyl on august 17th 2018. the self-produced record is packed with stand-alone characteristic beats, proving that the beats themselves have just as much story as the vocals.
“in this stage of my life there is much more reflection and contemplation, and i really feel that i was very open and unguarded on this album. as much as i love all the completed songs with the vocals, the beats on here hold enough detail to speak on their own.”

french producer lb aka labat returns with a new lp named “fake memories” on his own label alélah records. he surprises us with some more hip-hop and r’n’b music, liberating his love for jazz rythms and harmonics. known for his talent at playing with samples, this new lp expresses his actual potential, offering a large use of instrumental stuff : violin and piano chords, guitar riffs… together with delicate voices that balance with the old school drums and procure gentleness to the sharp hats. the b3 eponymous track even discloses the man’s voice, with lyrics sang by himself

on an unassuming cassette, just labelled ‘robert rental’ in green dymo tape, these demos have lain unheard for years amongst his family’s treasured possessions, cared-for artefacts of a life cut short far too soon.
these songs, which robert recorded in his council flat in battersea in 1980, provide an enticing glimpse into his all-too-infrequent solo work. on most occasions, robert worked with thomas leer, daniel miller or other collaborators. these are rough recordings, tape hiss still in evidence, but his creativity shines through the murk, like uncut diamonds.

ltd repress !! contrary to the songs name, this interpretation of a traditional afro-brasilian candomble song, appears to be forged from mythical lost amazonian gold. recorded in sao paulo with an allstar cast of arteria fm (on vocal duties), salvador araguaya (caressing the viola caipira) & spaniol (stroking the baixo), steered by nicola s production prowess, this quartet delivers a melodic enhancement to the summer sun. as if the sun wasn t shining bright enough already, the single comes backed by a remarkable remixer ensemble procured from their duties as fellow sun-worshippers: xique-xique s dragonfruit mix is a wondrous journey full of surprising leaps and bounds, alternating between hypnotic electronics and organic song structure. saving the best til last he raises the energy whilst keep the beats low and the vibes ecstatic. hit ! crussen s creamy cocodub raises the energy whilst concentrating on a dubbed out groove, (that) classic crussen bassline and carefully sliced & re-appropriated vocals. finally in-house poster-boy carrot green s granola mix combines disco, deep grainy bassines, juicy bells and signature flourishes into a bowl of magical mind-whirling hip-spinning edible sex.

italian legend francesco farfa debuts on memento with “synchronicity 13”, with remix honours and duties left to m.r.e.u.x. and the analogue cops. farfa s long-lasting original track is a dancefloor skyrocket designed with skilful craftmanship. the humonguos drums and the driving bass line stockpile the explosive potential of a synthetic flock of sound, eventually becoming unwordly bloops pierced by evocative strings. the analogue cops rework the evocative potential of the original with a raw jacking grab in their “dance of the condor remix”, anchoring a biting kick drum and an highly corrosive acid bass. finally, m.r.e.u.x delivers his “green trip mix”, a very effective minimalistic reinterpretation, built on pounding rhythms and hypnotic sequences.

from the green hills of albania to the back rooms of new york city, sworn virgins bring the light. a strangers hand on your shoulder, bright red painted finger nails scratching your thigh, all those beautiful things that made you leave that small town you came from. greased up and ready to go, close your eyes and take it in.

a chance encounter at university during the acid house summer of ’88 and subsequent bonding over baby ford’s “oochy koochy” established a life-long friendship between leicester lads, jimi o’callaghan and al green. inspired by the sounds of detroit, early ny house like murk and masters at work and the emerging uk sounds of lfo, orbital and aphex twin, the pair began djing and making music as the wild geese. their first ep, “the wild geese ep”, was released in 1994 on their own giddy goose recordings imprint. the guys pressed 500 copies and, with jimi’s connections made interning with pete tong’s ffrr, sold copies direct to london shops. the record sported packaging designed to look like an american 12” and an accompanying press release attributed the ep to a fictitious dj duo hailing from wisconsin. rave reviews followed and a distribution deal was struck with vital uk, who produced and sold another 500 copies worldwide. another ep followed a year later. sadly, plans for a third ep on the label never materialized, but the pair remain close to this day. 24 years later we are honored to reintroduce this genre-defying, uniquely forward-thinking ep to today’s dance floors.

2018 repress , genius of time for running back! finally making the esteemed juno jam - known and dearly loved since john talabots dj-kicks contribution - available to a wider public for the first time, the gothenburg couple draw a whole tribal-vodoo-house-ep around it. percussion happy and as spiritual as a green mass, it would make joe claussell proud. bass drum, djungel muzik!
