deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

vinyl only. french duo dixia sirong make their vinyl debut on inner balance, the daughter-label of chez damier’s genre-defining balance imprint. this offshoot is proving to be a rich source of diverse, updated classic house sounds, and its third release is no exception. ‘winnie’ kicks the ep off with a laid-back vibe perfect for afternoon grooving. the techier edge to ’berry white’ makes it well-suited for later in the evening when the dancefloor starts moving, while broken beats and liquid ambience take ‘haqan fen’ into post-peak deepness – make sure to wait for the enveloping bass that arrives five and a half minutes in. ‘winnie’s cut’, finally, is an irresistible precision groove of the sort you might hear in the late late hours at club der visionaere, its soft pads, ricocheting percussion and rolling bass unfurling into the morning sun.

after mike gervais’ strident work on sym017, ben sims’ symbolism imprint returns with spanish newcomer jlg’s four track ‘convolution’ ep. originally coming to sims’ attention via the demo section of his ‘run it red’ radio show/podcast, javier lg has previously released for dynamic reflection and substance but it’s the quality of his unreleased material that secured his place on symbolism. characterised by intricate and interwoven melodic rhythms, some at the forefront and some almost there, jlg’s debut for the label is an infectious and consummate affair.

few can fail to have noticed the re-emergence of italian deep house in recent times. tracks paying tribute to the dreamy, loved-up and new age-influenced style pioneered by italian producers in the late 80s and early 90s are ten-a-penny these days, though few are quite as breezy and evocative as this ep from minimono. the fact that it s appearing on re-born rome label vibraphone - dormant since 1993, but brought back to life late last year - is rather fitting. the duo s dreamy, melodious and tactile style - see the fluttering synthesized flute lines and tactile grooves of -sailing-, the horizontal house bliss of -suspend-, and the ron trent style slickness of -next step- - is perfectly in keeping with the label s wavy, sun-kissed ethos.

bologna s frank agrario decided to take destiny into his own hands earlier this year, founding micronation records as an outlet for his music. the ladonia ep - named after a disputed micro-nation in southern sweden - is agrario s second missive for the imprint, and features a particularly luscious, amospheric dancefloor roller named after the state s most famous landmark, a sculpture called -nimis-. arguably even better is -i played that track already , a dusty, detroit style deep house cut blessed with a bold cowbell line, sustained chords, and a nagging vocal hook. rick wade provides a deliciously deep and soulful interpretation of that track, while the softly jazzy, broken-house track -lesboa- is also worth a listen.
