born in shreveport, louisiana, reuben bell began singing in local clubs. he first recorded for the local murco label in 1967 before moving to the silver fox and house of orange labels. in 1975 he released his first 45rpm single for alarm records (-superjock- b/w -i still have to say goodbye-) which was produced by wardell quezergue. neither side made any noise back then but 24 years later -superjock- was included in dj shadow & cut chemist s brainfreeze mix. since then it has become a classic and it has been played constantly by hip hop and funk djs all around the world. it has appeared on a handful of (mainly bootleg) compilations over the years so we are proud to present the long-overdue, fully licensed re-issue on its original format. you may check out tramp s -countdown to... soul- (tr-9067) compilation which contains -superjock- as well as some other fine rare grooves.

sunlightsquare keeps on exploring multiple style of house music this summer. the previous single from the last month -oyelo- was a winning combination of authentic latin cuban music and classic 909 house beats. it was championed by ron trent, osunlade, hunee, bradley zero, nick the record and atjazz to name a few. this time, the main man and keyboard wizard claudio passavanti deployed two remixers for deeper and more spiritual endeavour to showcase his magical composition. hailing from the birth place of south african house music pretoria, the talented young producer blaqtone laid out beautiful sunset pad, earthy african percussions and solid rolling beats, all work like magic with claudio s original spiritual keyboard works. on the flip side, kay suzuki pulled off another dubbed out psychedelic mix with -astro dub-, just like the previous release, and the more dance-floor oriented classic deep house style of -moon mix- influenced by the likes of larry heard. the track features sequenced mini-moog bass line and call & response drum programming before blissful harmonies and melodies kick in.

brazilian label gop tun hits its fourth release with the sublime tones of tyv, building on the adventurous twist on disco and house music that has typified the label to date. lead track -miau!- is a show stopper that rides on a sumptuous arpeggio and lashings of latin percussion, infected with a sunny disposition but also reaching into a more mysterious corner of the dancefloor. lauer steps up to remix the original into a more overtly cheery version loaded with his trademark warm basslines and pads, but then tyv takes control once more for simmering b-side jam -da terra-. pitched at a more reflective time in the party, this brooding jam celebrates brazilian music culture in a wonderfully modern context.

ion din dorobanti is one of the many monikers of the ubiquitous producer ion dumitrescu from bucharest. his 7� single on pingipung shows the oriental influences on bass music in his hometown. this release carries the manele, romanias wedding music which dominates contemporary pop styles since 30 years, towards new sonic realms. on the two tracks, he drag psychedelia and analog electro into the manele-sphere. the first one presents a radical afro-electro rework of alex pus&#806,,,,tiu�s �mi-e pofta&#774,,,, de tine ra&#774,,,,u�. ion din dorobant&#806,,,,i�s original production on the other side is a track pulsating on a 9/8 groove infested with synth nostalgia. all is spiced up by nicu chinezu�s on clarinet. ion dumitrescu is the co-initiator of the future nuggets label and its sub-label p-balans. they are both based in bucharest and run in heavy rotation at the pingipung office and in our dj sets. if he is not ion din dorobant&#806,,,,i he appears as australopitecus oltensis or utopus as a producer. among his productions are the brilliant debut lp by steaua de mare, the first lp of the legendary band rodion g.a together with strut records (london), the raze de soare ep and both volumes of -sounds of the unheard from romania-. these two summer anthems are part of the ongoing series of 7�-releases on pingipung. other singles recently came from ya tosiba, sven kacirek, andi otto or f.s. blummbastic.

hamburg�s fine impro-trio treibgut blesses us with a wonderful ep this summer. after a brief hiatus the three boys have refined their trademark sound even more - sitting confidently somewhere between techno, house and melodic electronica. while treibgut�s shows normally are almost ethereal snapshots due to their improvisational nature, we were able to convince them to hold down two of their finest results on tape. the outcome is a two-track ep - complemented by spot-on reinterpretations from two early supporters of our label: iorie and the duo peng peng. one remix convinces with a straight-forward club approach while the b-side is a bit more mellow and relaxed.

room ii records is a new imprint run by two brothers based in london, which focuses on giving a platform to up and coming artists. �the black ep� is the first in the series.
kicking off the series are three tracks by tr all varying in style and technique. soft pads and playful keys bounce along a grooving bassline on ep and every future summer set opener �fantasia�. �ub city� is made up of field recordings taken from a recent trip tr made to india last summer. the flip side shifts again culminating in a live drum breakdown that�s supported by a subtle, acidic bass line - �10am acid jam� is an outright dancefloor weapon.

next up is necropants a producer who enjoys roaming around graveyards and and seeking out ancient burial mounds. the last track on the b side was created by bellatrix?, an up and coming producer from verona, italy who has recently released an excellent ep on the veleno viola imprint. bellatrix? also heads a tape label called culto verona.

brothers black kick off their self-titled label with brbl001, a four-track original techno ep. following prior releases on their own joint imprint, bade records, and family labels safer at night and voxnox records, brbl is a new home where the pair will curate their own sound and productions. the pair kick off the a-side with creep oder was? , a stripped down vocal banger that teams hard-edged percussion with an acidic lead. the a2, axe to grind , combines dub chords with raw rolling percussion to create a deep hypnotic atmosphere. on the flip side, the b1 only human is a tense, driving tool with industrial tones that s perfect for the peak time hours. the b2, imagination barrier , is a frantic 140bpm techno exploration that combines the duo s signature vocals with heavily 90s influenced percussion.

camea returns with the third release on her neverwhere imprint, titled vanish , this spring. in her new single, she digs deep on her drum machine into studio 1-esque territory, using alluring classic minimal techno grooves as a back drop for her seductively soulful, selfconflicted vocals. camea not only captures a timeless micro-house vibe in this piece, but she continues to push her sound forward as well as her love for avant-guard techno. up next is delft imprint boss, la-4a, best known for his analogue vintage roland drum machine productions. he has laid down an irresistible 303 break-beat club mix of camea s track in the a2 spot. his dance cut of her vocals over bass driven percussion is a perfect counter piece to the original, and compliments the sound from his recent acid techno album phonoautograph . on the flip side, berlin techno legend and ostgut ton/berghain resident tobias. gives his graceful interpretation. he has reworked the original into a tasteful, dark, spacious 8-minute minimal techno piece, with percolating panning and filters on the vocals. as usual with tobias., he clearly conveys his undeniable expertise and instinct for exquisite dance music. with this release, camea is also marking the 2nd anniversary of her cult neverwhere radio show this spring, having produced twenty-four, two-hour episodes with exclusive dj mixes and guests. the show currently has residencies on digitally imported, tsugi radio and ibiza sonica, and camea has quickly established herself as a driving force in the left-field techno community, and a passionate advocate of underground radio.

el origen is a collaborative project between chile s rodrigo gallano (matanza) and nicola cruz (zzk) exploring the folkloric musical traditions of south america. the a side is comprised of original compositions written, played and sung by rodrigo while nicola cruz remixes all the tracks on the b side, giving the sons his signature deep electronic vibe. the ep will be out on a special limited edition 12- with art composed by renown street artist ju mu monster.
