it has been a memorable year for the luv shack. release after release, props after props, watching the guys build on a solid foundations and take it up a notch each time. if you listen to their first release (again), and then this new release, you will see just how far they have travelled in such a small time frame. and yes, it started with a couple of mini compilations and eps to see what the reaction would be. the reaction was good, actually no, the reaction was great, the right jocks took to the guys and the early eps and hence since, the luv shack posse have been locked up in a studio ever since. they have been productive, and more to the point, excelling in that production. it is going to be a brilliant 2013.

these redux releases are like buses, we dont hear anything for ages then they hit us with three killer eps in a row. following the grand corporation and machete savane comes the return of phoreski. we have not heard much from phoreski for a little while, but you will soon hear why when you put the needle to the record on these two new tracks. he has been busily building up his studio into an enviable aladdins den of vintage kit, wires and analogue recording equipment. all synths and vocals you hear on these tracks come from phoreski, no samples, no guests, no edits. he has been hinting at this raw, analogue authentic sound for a while, but these tracks showcase a producer at one with the machines. >brown biscuits< comes across like some lost italo/cosmic gem, but via the north east of england rather than the lakes of italy. >machines< flexes tight proto-house rhythms with some bass that will make mince meat of lesser club soundsystems whilst the feuding synth lines fight for attention. this is proper body music, play loud!

van bonn returns after his release maserung on telrae in april 2011. van bonn has been in the studio a lot since then and has worked on a number of tracks that are highlighted here. onwards i is an excursion into sound. it starts with sounds that interact in a subtle way but then as if by magic, suddenly it rises to a much higher energy level, almost pulling you by the hair. chords now kick in with the full force of brutality, like the strikes of london’s big ben and then you’d think the track will just burst. van bonn makes another turn before he lets the drums break loose. it seems as if van bonn is taming the brutality and direction of his electronic machines. abstract now meets the concrete and whoever wins the fight is up to the listener to decide. the first remix comes by raffaele attanasio who has had considerable success with der pianist and i m a jazzman and has collaborated with trapez ltd artist mihalis safras, a. trebor (trapez), as well as claude young, nic fanciulli and has shown his versatility throughout the last 3 years. juan atkins recently featured raffaele attanasio remix of no mans land by a. trebor in his charts.his remix for van bonn keeps up a strong beat programming right from the beginning. a beat monster so to speak is alive from the beginning and kicking. the track is written in a style that shows expansion and contraction and through that shows an organic breathing quality.

as christmas 1969 beckoned, jimi hendrix, bassist billy cox, and drummer buddy miles engaged in extensive rehearsals for their highly anticipated appearances at the fillmore east in new york. branded by hendrix as the band of gypsys, the trio worked feverishly rounding such exciting new original material as >izabella< and >machine gun< into form. keenly aware of the special significance his forthcoming concerts represented, jimi wanted to prepare something extraordinary for his audience. to mark the occasion in his own inimitable fashion, jimi readied this special medley of holiday favorites to celebrate both christmas and the dawning of a new decade. this recording was made at baggys studios, a manhattan rehearsal facility the group preferred. it by no means should be considered a polished studio recording made to hendrixs exacting specifications. it is, instead, perhaps even more revealing. this is a glimpse of jimi simply having fun in the company of close friends. the photograph of jimi posing as santa claus was originally organized on behalf of the uk music newspaper record mirror. to help publicize the december 1967 release of axis: bold as love, the groups second album, jimi agreed to pose as santa for the issues cover. an alternate photograph from that session, with jimi bearing gifts in the form of axis: bold as love, is featured here. as an added bonus, also included is jimis playful >three little bears<. this track was recorded with the experience at the record plant in may 1968 during sessions for electric ladyland. bypassed for that album, >three little bears< was originally issued as part of the 1972 posthumous compilation war heroes. it has been unavailable in the us for nearly twenty-five years.

edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

from medellin to the uckermark and back again to question mark – here is another comeme travelogue for your badass baedeker. not long ago sano left his colombian hometown to find himself in an old palace in brandenburg, locked inside a dreamlike basement studio for two weeks with another seven from around the world. it has been there, as sano told us, that a blood pact was sealed. and now indeed it is his >chupa< (suck it!) to be the already second record (after alejandro paz - free) to emerge from that magnificent comeme conclave held at a cottage outside of berlin this summer.

returning after some time off, two dogs in a house took to a secluded studio in stockholm sweden during spring 2012 to record while on the road. here we have the result of uninhibited access to machines with no time constraints and no distractions from the outside world. this freedom allowed the duo to expand upon their ideas of deconstructing conventional song structure and harnessing the power of what immediately surrounded them in the moment. two full side tracks that will absolutely crush and/or isolate anyone who crosses through the sonic pathway of them. perfect sounds for the apocalyptic world we live in.

craig mcwhinney is a melbourne based dj, producer and live artist. beginning his techno explorations behind the decks in 2000, his transition to the studio has been swift and fruitful. a string of releases on his own label haul music which he co-founded in 2008 with friends mike callander and christian vance, are now being backed up with remixes and eps for speedy js electric deluxe, and brendon moellers steadfast records. drawing upon his wealth of djing experience, he crosses the boundaries of dub infused techno and house with precision and intent, blurring the line between dance floor dynamics, home listening, experimentation and sound design. he is also collaborating with mike callander as haul music live, fusing craigs rhythms with mikes soundscapes to create unique dance floor interpretations of their individual sound experimentations. wild coast is a low-slung filthy minimal romp that possesses as much primal energy as it does futuristic funk. bassbins and heads are likely to be blown by this demented puppy. echologist keeps things lofi, hypnotic and subby.
