only vinyl 1! this year sees abba’s the album turn 40, and usm are pleased to announce that we’ll be releasing a selection of products to celebrate the anniversary. abba: the album is the fifth studio album by the swedish pop group abba. it was originally released in scandinavia on 12 december 1977 through polar music and was released in conjunction with abba: the movie, with several of the songs featured in the film. the album contained two uk number-one singles, -take a chance on me- and -the name of the game-, as well as european hits -eagle- and -thank you for the music-. the album includes three songs from abba’s 1977 tour mini-musical the girl with the golden hair. these songs are -thank you for the music-, -i wonder (departure)- and -i’m a marionette-. altogether the album contained just nine songs—the least of any abba album, but were longer in length than previous albums (opening track -eagle- runs to nearly six minutes). abba: the album reached no. 1 in many territories. in the uk it debuted at the top and remained there for seven weeks, ending up as the third biggest selling album of the year (behind the movie soundtrack lps of saturday night fever and grease). in the us it became their highest charting album, where during 1978 abba undertook a big promotional campaign.

this toronto based artist shows he masters the art of creating solid bass drums percussion, groovy baselines, keyboard and string lines that build up into perfect musical architecture that will rock any dance floor in the globe.

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection, the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

ltd 2020 repress - following on from last year s debut release in the myor massiv “luv” sub series by coco bryce, this time he teams up with partner in crime fff for another slice of lovey dovey junglism. fff kicks things off with “never let you fall”, on which he juxtaposes moody synth riffs with uplifting reggae vocals, making for an alienating yet strangely attractive combination, before delving into amen mayhem extraordinaire. on the flip coco bryce opts for a higher cuteness factor on “lovin u”. not necessarily aimed at the dancefloor, but with an undeniably “junglist” feel to it, this little number is probably best described as a “love song for the heads”, although its ultra low bass frequencies are likely to rattle any sub woofer in the best of dub traditions.

harder percussive techno madness

thinktank return to stepback records with another colony of underground styles. hive mind mentality further expands on the diverse, unique in your face club tracks that thinktank have made a signature of their sound. first up on the a side is them. budding entomologists vinnie and the leph aka thinktank have unearthed what some might say as sci-fi classic techno of the atomic age. underpinned by a sheffield style bass crawl coupled with bleeps that will crush any dancefloor. this is the electronic sound of nature running amok. burrowing further on the b side stw serves you techno in it’s most creative form – synth led with a sick groove and huge drum rhythms. last but not least – waaaassps dg is a classic thinktank track with a sting in it’s tail. snapping, clapping, alive and kicking. you will be buzzing when the break-beat drops.

new year, new bobby. caserta and trusty sidekick, lucky ry, get back in the saddle to present the sequel to the release that started it all, once again starting with a classic cut from the blue-eyed soul genius and turning it into a dance floor heater. triumphant horns, warm bass, and thumping live drums come together to make up the 70’s mix, while loud drums scream 80s mix. caserta and co. once again provide two distinct mixes that are sure to set off any party.

delicate wash is back for round 4, delivering a seamless combination of spaced-out street synths and exquisite disco toe-tappers. four cuts of a familiar 1980s metropolitan milieu, wash#4 provides the b-movie soundtrack to a cinematic underworld of swanky penthouse soirees and back alley brawls. whether in a mix or live set, this evocative quartet is an eloquent addition to any audiophiles storytelling toolkit.

moreon & baffa returns this time with a very special pack for their own vinyl imprint. 2 originals that go further up on tempo times, bringing a futuristic space war concept, influenced by some acid and uk techno sounds from the late 90’s, but without loosing their essence, always with those dubby “deepchord / basic channel” influenced lines. and again (as “zamacona” did on the 002 release) in this case they bring back another legend from the late 90’s. mark ambrose delivers a “breaky techno tool” remix that will blend perfectly with anything at any moment, again timeless material for the heads.

van abbes fresh no comment release presenting 2 originals, a killer remix by the exaltics and a debut track by pantone 32. it wasnt until she opened the old pocket watch – its timeworn silver surface glimmering slightly in the darkness – that she understood that something was terribly wrong. it was audibly pounding in her hand like some kind of bizarre metal heart. and it was decidedly running backwards. she could not move and she could not take her eyes off the spinning indicators. >stop<, she whispered. then again, louder this time: >stop!<. the watch stopped and fell silent. she exhaled and moved uneasily on the spot. the floorboards creaked. wait. the floorboards? there werent any floorboards in her room. it was all concrete and glass and…. her room wasnt there anymore. she was standing in an old workshop brimming with ancient-looking machinery covered in sawdust. no-one was operating the equipment but their ghostly echoes were still floating through the air, buzzing, hammering, humming – almost melodic to her ears. the pocket watch came to life in her hand, acting as a steady metronome to the spectral orchestra. she wasnt home anymore. but it certainly was.
