this is a limited 12inch vinyl release on kieran hebdens (four tet) text records label. 500 only for the world. two new remixes of one of the stand out tracks from the debut album by one little plane that came out last summer. the first mix is by avus who is one of the artists on james holdens border community label. a beautiful piece of melodic techno that has been getting lots of play at border community nights since late last year. the other remix is by joe goddard from hot chip. techno with a strong uk garage influence. following on from the amazing remixes he has done for everyone from gang gang dance to kraftwerk.

musik gewinnt freunde starts the sommer season with mgf 09, which features two young and promising producers from beautiful venice: nicola sansoni aka randomatique and kaled jabri aka kaledj, who together form cosmic cowboys. the three tracks on their dusk ep combine an airy and transcendent athmosphere with an energy that builds up chary first but then unfolds and overwhelms you. with melancholic harmonies and a whiff of dub this ep invites for (day)dreaming or loose yourself on the dancefloor. definitely a great release for deep summer nights that will catch your heart regardless of time and space. cosmic cowboys make a great extension for the mgf family and it will be worth watching out for future releases from these guys

so the story goes: a few years ago i played a cool underground party in stockholm with my good friend and crazy record collector mark seven. early on that night mark played me this beautiful and melancholic piece of music. mark happily handed me his spare copy and my record collection for a second felt a little more complete… originally released as a b side track to als slipshod ep on out of the loop the track continued to mesmerize whenever i played it and the fact that so many people loved it and equally as many didnt know the record i though a re release could be a great idea. its inclusion on gerd jansons recent sonar kollektiv compilation and the fact that its been played by legendary dj harvey ( o bearded one as hes known to by the initiated) has obviously helped to spread its fame to. the previously issued part 1 with the original and bogdan irkük remixes has gone down a storm with all the cool movers and shakers... oh yeah baby. now its time for the last chapter with equally mindboggling gatto fritto remix, mark sevens version and my own just plain silly rework. toodle oooo, thomas(oslo, 7th of august 2009)

westpark unit (aka herb lf & ingo saenger) are back with their annual release on farside records after some work for labels like dessous, tjumy, future classic or fear of flying. this time, they provide 4 brandnew trax for the vinyl edition. more forever might be familiar to a few people that followed the music of westpark unit over the years. the tune is a special rework of their first ever limited 12inch release forever back in 2002 on draft recordings. more forever took some of the original deep harmonies, keeps parts of the piano loop and the beautiful sampled hook and should be a soulful bomb on the 2009 floors. even deeper 45 grows and grows with a very intensely chord, takes you on a trip with its driving bassline and is the other dubby deep house tune here. the first demo version received some nice feedback / chartings / plays from djs like dplay, matt flores or shur i kan. while speaking of house (not house), jam hot and familiar sequence are musically caught somewhere in between the styles. jam hot might be more funk than house with sexy 104 bpm, is bouncing like hell and keeps the crowd shaking and moving. familiar sequence appeals to the disco fanatics out there, has a little of a balearic vibe and is also keeping things slow. both tunes are the perfect startup into the night. we think this is the right tempo for party anyway.

as an instrumental track all about love was released back in early 2008. to be found on the highly acclaimed big love ep from knee deeps love trilogy ep series. all about love received remarkable wide range club plays. and during the wmc this heavy clubtrack was the flavour of the month. in spite of everything the kneedeep guys couldnt let the track go. somehow they felt it could be a raving success if lyrics would be added. and beeing known for their big vocal workouts the kd duo teamed up with the voice of cafe del mar, misscathy battistessa! it turned out to be a more than fitting collaboration! knee deep and cathy - more than ever poeple battistess layed down this beautiful soul searching song for the summer season. three mixes will be served by ralf gum and mister lovebirds of kd fame himself. all about love is a must have and future classic tune.

zuckerwatte is the second single from oliver koletzkis new album >großstadtmärchen<. and zuckerwatte, which translates as candyfloss is a truly magical tale about love and loss in the big city. the original features juli holzs softly whispering voice that is so very fragile, and so very beautiful. this is a softly grooving electro-pop discovery. but of course this song has also been transformed for the dancefloor on this single that also features two more tracks from olivers album. first up is the remix by david august, one half of the duo august & bachert who delivers a top-notch glitchy tech-house edit that makes great dramaturgical use of the original track. next up is björn störigs vision of zuckerwatte. the drummer of olivers live outfit the koletzkis envisions juli holz perform her sweet and sticky singing over some neo-soul tech-rnb influenced electronica that features a spanish guitar, some great claps and some very nice synthesizers. on the flip there is koletzkis instrumental house-homage kusskompatibel and these habits, on which only seventeen-year-old singer pyur makes her debut. she sings wonderfully harmonic over this down-beat trip-hop groove and it results in a great hit for the late summer. this single is more than a single. its the best thing before the album

latest release on lmd comes from a new signing ion ludwig aka koos ludwig. the clair obscur ep opens up with late bed, lush sensual sounds & magical piano rifts keep drifting in & out making the track feel like it is alive calling you to come and play. lakes loosh is deeper with hypnotic cords and a beautiful occordion hook. the whole ep feels playable on or off the dancefloor giving it both a limitless & timeless feel.

just in case someone might have forgotten: stil vor talent is based in berlin. and this ep by sascha braemer, one part of heinrich & hirtenfellner, proves just that. braemer, whos just been at the top of everybodys dj charts with his funk-laden minimal soul piece >mamba drums< on kindisch records, has donated three tracks to oliver koletzkis imprint that mirror what this city is best know for: funky minimal grooves. first up there is >ghost track< a typical dry minimal loop with a rhythmically in touch vocal sample that is then juxtaposed by a simply astonishing piece of melody. goose bumps and groove humps on the floor - guaranteed! on the flip: >girl<. here braemer has created a dubby piece of tech house that floats towards a soulful vocal and some beautiful strings. this is one for the early morning, or in berlin, the late afternoon, those times when everything seems in perfect harmony with each other. last up is >guitar man<, yet another very sample-based stripped down loop with one riff of an echoed guitar being the protagonist. when that riff is fully played out, we all know its summer. but it wouldnt be berlin if there werent some dark wobbly basslines seemingly destroying this but in fact creating the perfect combination of soft and hard, of light and dark. on top of this the vocal sample >i wont leave< perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the praised berlin afterhour. stil vor talent is back at home with this ep.

downwards sidestep expectations again with this glorious limited 10inch vinyl release from tropic of cancer. two beautifully dark compositions that remind slightly of angelo badalamenti in >twin peaks< mode, or maybe reservoir dogs, if it had been filmed with a huge cavern as the soundstage. processed guitar and drones wash swampily over a simple drumbox beat, as eerie snatches of melody float in and out. as badalamenti himself said of his own work, >my (musical) world is a little bit dark... a little bit off-center. i think of it as tragically beautiful. that is how i would describe what i love best: tragically beautiful.< seems to sum this release up quite nicely too...

an excellent comilation if the fine future times label that has 4 tracks by beautiful swimmers, sensual beings, max d and protct u... as fairly unknown producers doing some shit hot disco funk and pure house tracks that would have been regulars in larry levans box, if he still would have been around. not sure where all these guys all of a sudden come from... but some seriously good music here!

this one was a smash all last year at the john waynes beach parties and its not hard to see why. beautiful and hypnotic naive melodies intertwine with a gently bumping rhythm with plenty enough groove to get you off the sun lounger and dancing on the beach/by the pool/on the roof (delete as applicable). perfect for the summer that keeps threatening to happen in the uk but that we never quite seem to have, time to go on holiday. theres a killer piano part that comes in later in the second half after the clip finishes

after the smash that was shatnereffekt one, handsette recordings return, bringing a host of diverse and super talented artists from around the world together on one massive ep and another essential array of electronic music.
kicking off the ep is kritical audios >spandex<, a tune that comes slow on the heels of the swedish duos 2006 braindance monster >krupp<. the swedish duo have come with an itchy slice of razor sharp electrofunk with a burbling acid bassline thats currently being caned by surgeon and rob hall (who says, i ve been playing the kritical audio track a lot. good stuff )... this is a big tune!
next up we have miles tilmanns >spirex< which starts with a wonky off beat that gives way to some wacked-out rubbery bassline action and a lead line that could have come from the keyboard hands of harold faltemeyer or parliaments bernie worrell.
following that is c. mantles >that other eden<. fearsome and delicate, morose and savage, >that other eden< is a serious piece of dancefloor heft with reese basslines burbling under a clattering beat before dropping away into a slightly terrifying double-drop breakdown.
unity gain temples >sahmo< rounds out the ep with a glistening, truly beautiful piece of work. the heavy kicks of the intro are met by a rush of lush chords and deft touches of melody, driving the track into a space that is pure audio luxury and reminiscent of brothomstates, arovane and tippers more contemplative moments.

beautiful disco masterpiece, the self-titled >zig zag< lp. originally released on the tiny canadian label pacha records, this lost gem has become one of the true holy grails of the cosmic disco scene and holds the top spot in many a wants list. this incredible record is every bit as good as you ve heard it is, with every track a killer. all feature great playing, awesome funky synths and b-lines and wonderful afro french vocals that make for one of the best disco lps of all time and a record that for once warrants the high prices paid for it in internet auctions. top class!

walter mecca releases his debut 7 inch on favorite recordings! he is a real breath of fresh air, as are other label artists such as onra, yann kesz, dwilt sharpp and lorett fleur. watch out featuring jessica pepper is the dope title track, a tough but heavily boogified future classic! the other side is the beautiful track pleasure, including soulful outerspace grooves and an awesome melody that really grow on you. this track is a must have.

dan quin has spent the last 10 years of his life mapping & mastering the animal & natural world of his promised land, the bottom of the earth, the south pole, antarctica, >the end of the world<ùand apparently producing some of the newest in dark analog driven techno & house. determined to create what he called >an artistic testament to the great antarctic expanse,< quin employed the recordings on his 1st 12 inch release, the haunting and epic >at the end of the world.< we can only hope he continues to labor away in his igloo of inspiration, hearing further calls of primitive encouragement and continuing his crusade to bring the beautiful silence of the arctic to our warm & ready earlobes.

the second release on the newly formed barcelona label they are changing it comes from barcelona based american dj/producer fluen. on this ep fluen gives us a glimpse into his production range delivering an ep that has a clear chicago/ny house influence , but manages to avoid the conga fever that has swept the scene as of late, and at the same time sounds very current. on the a side, things take off with better days, fun and very dancefloor oriented. the second track on the b side, mary says stands out right away thanks to a catchy piano riff and female cut up vocals,reminiscent of old chicago records. on the b side, fluen mixes things up a bit with a song that catches you from the get go. music remains starts very basic, with a dreamy piano line and a kick that lay the foundations for a song that could easily be a hit, simple, beautiful and very dancefloor friendly. the vocals wisely remind us that >people come and go, times do change and allà. but the music remains<. limited edition of 500 units
