it took a while but we finally got this great remix ep together from catz n dogz escape from zoo album. tanner ross flexes his e-funk biceps and shows us that just a little bit goes a long way with huge bass and sparse vox. this remix goes against the grain the right way, showing restraint and power at the same time. the main man of detroit, carl craig also delivers a sparse and beautiful mix, 1st giving us a lesson in how to properly tweak the space echo and then bringing it back with classic strings and subs. both mixes are getting major support from all across the globe from sebo k to troy pierce to ewan pearson to martyn to l-vis 1990 to james zabiela - overall probably the best feedback we had in a while on a record to be honest.. all great for our kids at the detroit youth foundation where the mothership label donates 100% of profits! also, special thanks to matt colton at air studios, london for donating a mastering session for free to cut this record and support our school.

catz n dogz are back with their second full length artist album on mothership. the follow-up to 2008s >stars of zoo< is a break from convention and a further exploration of genres by this amazing polish duo. hence the new albums title, >escape from zoo< the guys break free from the cage and run wild in a wilderness full of street bass, disco, r&b, deep house, hip-hop and more.
this preview ep is a teaser of two of the tracks from the album especially built for the club. >warsaw by night< is a rough and rugged tech burner that sounds like detroit via poland. and the dirty version adds and extra bit of growl to the equation for those who really want to throw it down.
>i’m the one who’s crazy< is a booming barbecue shaker that mixes elements of hip-hop, soul and house into a low end killer.
the guys have come a long way since their start as the group 3 channels from szczecin, poland and we hope you like these as much as we do.

we have never done a project like this before where the artists choose all the remixers themselves. but for the crazy italoboyz album >bla bla bla< we found ourselves not really knowing what to do. so instead of forcing our own ideas for remixers we went back to the source and let the artists run wild on the a&r. marco and fede commissioned all the remixers themselves. the producers they chose are a very diverse bunch and the vinyl 12inch takes a sampling of the best material from two very big underground names. on the a-side das kraus duo turn it a super jackin yet also very haunting rendition of >oh mio dio.< it sounds like pitched up chicago house meets demon days. on the b-side old school master dandy jack turns in one of the oddest records ever on mothership with some unusual sound design, voices and semi-dischordant note runs. super weird for the super weird! whatever you think of this odd lot no one can deny these remixes definitely carry the indistinguishable mark of that ever so quirky duo, the italoboyz

if you listen to techno then you already know of the polish duo called 3 channels, with amazing eps on labels ranging from crosstown rebels to trapez to dirtybird. now, the masterful polish duo of greg and voit have developed a new name - catz n dogz - with a completely original sound. their debut album stars of zoo is a hybrid masterpiece. a beautiful cross between the best elements of deep house, minimal techno, and cinematically arranged live instrumentation. this is an album of songs – not tracks! yet each individual segment of the album - from the lush sonic soundscapes of >sunset in the east< to the complicated spirals of 2 – reveals new delightful details upon each listen. catz n dogz have created a sound that is at once timeless and contemporary, respecting technos past by keeping their sights firmly set on its future

mothership transmission 027 – maetrik the >space chronic< ep was the biggest selling record on mothership last year and for good reason. maetrik has an incredible knack for innovative and original sound design. he is also able to package these sounds inside great arrangements and very dj friendly beats. this is what really separates his records from the rest of the sound design experts. >show me< is the perfect example of maetriks amazing talents. after several minutes of a super funky techno groove (2 things that dont usually go together) we find ourselves at the drop. and this drop is one of the best we have ever heard. it sounds like an angry wasp is flying full speed through the inside of your brain. the riff will melt your mind. >simpleman< on the other side is a great example of maetriks versatility. you might be expecting a hardcore techno bit but instead we hear a very groovy, almost reserved jazz techno fusion joint, but still with the heavy beats to keep it real for the clubs.

after a some big remixes and a nice original outing this summer on get physical, catz n dogz return back to their home label. this time the guys team up with their friend, the hot producer, pol_on while also featuring the candid vocals of fellow mothershipper , monty luke. this is a great single to check out as we wait for their new 2nd album for mothership due out in the spring of 2010. the sexy analog sound of the original mix will fit well within any proper house set, but i particularly prefer the drama queen mix which breaks into a beautiful melodic section 3 quarters of the way through. groovy.

two more tracks from the much anticipated italoboyz full length cd >bla bla bla<. those of you familiar with italoboyz music will be aware of its roots in the fusion of organic with electronic sounds and the collision of genres as varied as jazz, opera and folk with what we traditionally know as house and techno. >techno tower< and >chinese< are a real testament to the italoboyz musical roots and will surely turn some heads on the dancefloor.

the 2nd ep vinyl preview of the highly anticipated italoboyz full length bla bl bla (out in september) on mothership. not everyone is aware that both marco and fede migrated north to london from italy several years ago. this move has influenced their sound, hence the where is london? ep this ep also marks the start of their new live instrumentation work. where is london draws its title from a big ben sample put in reverse, but it also features experimental live piano work (piano strings struck with paper mallets) re-twisted into their addictive drum patterns. on the other side, lanagramme features salvador dalis voice and the interesting dual piano work of their good friend angelo. italoboyz are always pushing the boundaries and testing the limits of traditional dance-floor music and this is no exception.

how do you follow up a creepy techno full-length album by voodeux? visit the university for some music lessons by james braun and dan m. this is a very house influenced assignment from mothership, where we strongly believe that teachers can present techno and house and whatever else - all in the same lecture. visiting professor, affkt really goes the extra mile on the flip adding some space and artistry to the curriculum. dont be late for class!

two years ago, on the east coast of america, a couple of highly technical production wizards joined forces and created their own genre of strange and creepy techno under the moniker, voodeux. one from boston and the other from philadelphia, tanner ross and james watts first released >the curse< ep on mothership in 2008 with great success. with dj support rolling in from everywhere claude vonstroke soon commissioned them to record a full-length album of this new moody sound. voodeuxs debut album, >the paranormal< is a concentrated vision of myth and mysterious beats, exploring the eerie after-life side of techno like no other artists have done to date. it is a vision of ghosts and goblins hiding in the closet ready to scare the daylights out of you. using dark funk, ghoulish atmospheres and futuristic production, voodeux is staking their claim as the next generation of american techno and >the paranormal< is a techno masterwork for the modern underworld.

minilogue on mothership. we are very excited about this super deep record! if you do not know about this amazing swedish duo then you probably have been hiding under a rock or listening to van halen in your 1987 chevy camaro for too long. on the flip û the remix is by great american underground producer from los angeles, kenneth graham. the minilogue guys specifically requested mr. graham and he delivered a top quality remix as usual

the italoboyz stepped on the scene and launched the mothership label with their massive hit ?iktor casanova?in 2007. then they followed it up with another smash success, ?ahia?which featured the only legally licensed john coltrane sample in the history of dance music. now, they are back with a highly anticipated full length artist album called ?la bla bla.?true to form, the italoz are at it again, twisting and manipulating real world sounds in the most intriguing ways. if this lead-off single is representative of the creativity and feeling of the full album then we are in for another great success story from this extremely interesting duo. full album : september, 2009.

the fourth and final installment in the catz n dogz vinyl series has saved the best for last. sunset in the east is an epic opus, gradually unfolding in a cascade of warm toms, luxuriant ride cymbals, and assured sax stabs from their talented guests from dop. each new phrase ushers a fresh set of sonic delights into the frame, peaking with exultant proclamations from the saxophones. on the flip side, the white-hot guillaume & the coutu dumonts remix distills the track into the purest, most primal house music imaginable. his arrangement deftly remolds the sax sections to suit the tracks grand progression, gloriously blurring the lines between percussion and instrumentation

the third installment in the catz n dogz vinyl series is a showcase for two standout songs off their album stars of zoo. >sf< is a throwback to classic house tracks, with a modern twist - a playground full of joyous children have invaded its sly, bongo-laden grooves. yet these precocious youngsters are only part of the story – the beats insistent and ever-changing swing never lets up for more than a couple of moments. >2< is more ominous but no less effective. its primary percussion enters like springs filling up an echo chamber, gradually morphing into several competing themes that weave together throughout the track. 2s bass is a serious force, creating a physical presence that must be heard on a large system to be believed!

omanko is the only word that is unmentionable in japanese media and public speech. its also the next single from catz n dogz - a strange hybird of cinematic swells, quirky natural drums and popping guitar plucks. its unorthodox groove builds relentlessly, anchored by a shouting chorus and warm bass bubbles that swell from the depths like some massive ancient sea creature. they take their time building to the climax, finishing the track with late-entering keyboard theme that quickly swirls into a frenzy. perfect for tipping that peaktime crowd over the edge! the italoboyz remix completely remolds the groove to fit their distinctive vision, seamlessly integrating shards from the original into their tension-fuelled agenda. breakdowns of varying sizes dominate the sonic landscape, as their annihilating kick plays hide and seek with the strings throughout the track. finally, all the elements are reunited by the echo-drenched vocal line and percussive baritone sax stabs – a satisfying finale to this latenight masterpiece.

played by karotte, l.garnier, steve bug, sebo k, mike shannon, layo, d julz !!! we are pretty sure that maetrik sent us his latest ep from a grow room orbiting the earth. his space chronic ep combines the innovation of techno with a sense of fun missing from your average four on the floor banger. its a little shocking, but the results have been exactly what wed expect from the dallas native - mass freaking on the dancefloor. the albums lead single, sex with bass, explores the type of low frequencies that usually occur when suspension bridges tear apart. all the while a subsonic voice repeats its desire to have sex… with bass! stab jockey throws a techno curveball at the start, utilizing rhythmic synths over a simple beat. dont trust it! midway through, the line clears out for full-frequency busting bass drops. on the flip, crawl machine immediately builds a head-nodding groove that wastes no time firing off its boosters – half the track is a sneaky buildup. by the time the kick slams back in, youre already back in orbit. cuban born maetriks techno pedigree is bulletproof.

mothership transmission #4… todd bodine has been one of our favourite producers for a long time so we are very excited to be able to bring to you this ep on mothership. todd always brings a swinging groove that works for both minimal and house djs and this release definitely delivers the doughnuts. side a, >secret edge< will turn any stale room fresh and get everyones toes tapping and asses wiggling. its got elements of detroit, chicago, and berlin all wound up into a really nice party starter. you can never underestimate a fun grooving track thats easy to mix and fun to dance to. side b, >back to back< is a submariners dream with bubbling water sounds floating and popping over a low funk groove. this is the track for when you want to take it down a notch without losing any dance-floor magic. its a real dreamy affair with a fat bottom end. thanks todd!
