the swedish trance duo son kite is back, releasing their first album in ten years. and they are on a mission. *dancing is a very important ritual. our main mission as artists is to make people get into this trance state*, they say. since the release of their third album *colours* in 2004, marcus henriksson and sebastian mullaert have been focusing on their other project minilogue, touring the world and gaining increasing popularity in the house and techno scene. with *prisma*, released on november 17th and consisting of seven tracks made between 2007 and 2014, the duo leaps back to the endless energy and enthusiasm they felt when they first started making music together in 1996. and back to what it is all essentially about, according to the two musicians: getting into the all-important dance ritual and reaching the trance state.

in this release minilogue continue their journey through musical landscapes. they invite us all to join them for a guided tour into a range of different feelings. the a-side takes off in a quite serious mood, with a rolling beat to get the body warm whereon an ascending trip begins which is slowly inspiring us to open ourselves up and welcome the feeling of endlessness. feeling at ease with ourselves after the a-side we are ready to take on the playful jam tune on the b-side finally arriving in a loving place, a place where we all are supposed to be.

the >drop the mask of self protection< remix of dominik eulberg is a bit of an adventure! unlike his >diorama< album and maybe because of its elaborate musical challenge, he has taken a time-out to create a serious club format in the true eulberg style witnessed on trapez in the past. so what does that really mean for this track? well this remix kicks off a bit of an relaxed percussive and deep house groove and undergoes in its course quite an explosive transformation! with a lot of skill and finesse mr eulberg pulls the strings with accuracy and makes the transfer of what unfolds to be a heavy big pounding techno rocker! thumbs up this is superb and eulberg at his best.

>let life dance thru you< reveals itself as a safari of live played percussion, instruments and sounds. the duo create here a biotope of sounds that interact with each other... like a live band would do… at times almost arabesque sounding this track is full of mysterious soundscapes... jazzy played instruments... flutes running havoc... it could as well be: a spiritual voodoo session from the 70ies!
the whole sound selection if it would be described in colors, would be dark brown, black... with bits of gold. no shiny lights or illuminated plains. almost 11.00 minutes long this track is a real journey and certainly for the people who know rather than feeding djs.

this is first collaboration track of marcus from minilogue and his friend kab.marcus from minilogue have been played a lot of kab stuff at his dj set and sometimes they play by back 2 back. their back 2 back set at labyrinth festival in japan was unforgettable. local report on a side is very hypnotic and groovy tech house with spoken words.this is a kind of peak time stuff.on the other side, shade of grey is very dark, psychedelic but very modern touch.its for the fan of villalobos to mathew jonson.

third single from the imps (aka minilogue & decoy) remix album. move ds remix is a boogie deep house track. he raised the bpm a little bit and made a dj friendly version. thomas fehlmans remix is more a re edit thing – definitely the right way, psychedelic and deep as always.

when sebastian mullaert and marcus henriksson founded minilogue in 2000, it was not only a musical project but also a visual one. from the beginning, the two musicians thought animals to be the front for minilogue. these animals do not actually exist, they are imaginary animals. as they appear on minilogues record sleeves, they merge elements of all different animals together: there is a donkey with a trunk of an elephant or a mouse with the horns of a deer. with >animals – the movie<, minilogues visual world comes fully into existence. the 80-minute-long dvd is created by hinge design from new zeeland and a couple of other visuals artists. two segments by kristofer ström were released as a preview: >hitchhikers choice< had more than three million views on youtube. the rhythm of the whole movie is defined by its quiet camera motions. with its countless images and movements, the films put us in a detached position. we watch the world around us like scientists. this remoteness enables us to experience its beauty to its full extent. >animals – the movie< manages to combine the repetitive collages of club visuals with the subtleties of video art. it is for sure one of the most ambitious visualisations of todays electronic music. it will appear as well on the tv in your living room as in your favourite club

sometimes, its still worth not to waste your youth with nonsense but to learn to play an instrument. like in the case of sebastian mullaert, who has learned to play violin, organ and piano, while his partner marcus henriksson rather came from kraftwerk and human league to electronic music. as son kite, the two swedes have already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene, and as minilogue, they now start to conquer the minimal and house world. with their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer. especially with their debut on cocoon rec, minilogue present themselves in a different way, compared to their releases on traum or wagon repair. >jamaica< is a calm track at the first hearing and is perfect for building up a set. beginning with bird-like sounds, the track builds up slowly and quickly becomes very interesting and tricky, ramifies as organic as a climbing plant, and when the tribal sound emerges from the underground, this track has exactly what makes minilogue so special: organic matter and groovy sounds, worked into a minimal labyrinth with very much love for the details. all of that can also be found on the b side which seems to be more adequate for the morning hours, with its somehow spacey sound. with >jamaica<, mullaert and henriksson prove that they are floating on the very surface of the endless minimal ocean. and with their album >animals< being already in sight on cocoon recordings, one can be highly anxious of what is coming ahead, by minilogue and techno made in sweden

the music is playful, ambitious, simple, complex, fun and melancholic and not at least. it is extremely animalistic. they have an album >animals< ready to drop in 2007. elephant s parade was played completely live with drum machines, synths and analogue sequencers. the duo like to record this way (compared to stuck infront of the computer) as they get more free in creating a specific and spontaneous feeling. here one might imagine a big gang of crazy elephants getting lost on a psychedelic parade. in the middle of the track things are getting a bit weird, perhaps too much amarulla fruit, which gives the second part its childish and naïve playfulness. on the flipside bird song has a dirty, noisy, trippy vibe with a little touch of basic channel sound. shake a tail feather !! played by anja schneider, karotte, tobi neumann, troy pierce, woody

der hintergrund für das release geht auf ein kunstwerk von jens standke zurück der in köln damit in diesem jahr seine abschlussarbeit an der khm bestritt. es geht um die fertigung von >vinylaktiten< (vinyl tropfsteine). aus ca. 140 schallplatten erstand jeweils eine skulptur bei der wellenformen auf das vinyl per fräsung in separate formen übertragen wurden und ihre tonrillen optisch abgetastet wurden. der optischen tonabnehmer nahm über 800 sounds ab. salz hat sich aus der fülle an klängen bedienen dürfen und hat mit sehr viel aufwand sounds destilliert und bearbeitet und so in eine form überführt wie sie im kontext von dub techn. sinn macht. sie haben somit aus den fragmenten wieder ein ganzes gefertigt, man könnte von musikalischen recycling sprechen, gäbe es diese kunstform. das kunstprojekt von jens standke hat salz enorm inspiriert und so dürfen wir uns auf ein einzigartiges ergebnis freuen welches den verlauf vom musikalischem rhythmus bis zum rauschen beherbergt. das stück trägt den namen, >technofaktur dub< auf der rückseite veröffentlichen wir zum ersten mal auf vinyl einen dub remix den salz für minilogue aufgenommen haben.

after an ep visit from germany based artist basicnoise, it was only a matter of time before he presented greyscale with a full length. and what a strong album it is too! pattern explorations is mixture of heavy dub grooves that verge on deep techno. chords and grooves coexisting in full dub harmony. pattern explorations part 1 pulsates thru the lower frequencies making this an optimum dancefloor workhorse without losing the deepness to get transfixed by. creatives basslines and structures are explored to their fullest. patterns are experimented with but never overstep the boundaries of making a proper dub groove like in part 2. part 3 clocks in at over 13 minutes making it the second longest foray into deepness. there is a feeling of hope and eternal beauty as the atmosphere blissfully sets in among the surroundings. the patterns aren t limited to rhythm section as this one is a testament too. chords share a stratosphere with melody elements in complete grandeur. part 5 is a bit of a banger as the relentless beat pulls the listener forward in unison. part vi is particularly exciting adding remnants of an acid line and many other unique spacey bleeps and zaps. uncharted explorations for the genre of dub techno on this one! part 7 is just down right sick. over 14 minutes of an unforgiving and highly addictive dub tech groove makes this a sure-fire dancefloor destroyer. the reprise of part 2 brings the mood down quickly for an otherworldly lullaby. drifting off after that uptempo ride makes for a smooth landing as the album winds down. basicnoise came with it for greyscale s 23rd full length album! pattern explorations in full effect!

cocoon recordings presents a new mix-compilation and it is number 49!!! more than that it is the 10th edition of the label-inhouse-compilation-series mixed by chris tietjen and last but not least it will be the final chapter of this ten years lasting journey.
