t.c. matic were a belgian rock band formed in the early 80s by arno hintjens and jean marie aerts (who would go on to produce albums by urban dance squad and absynthe minded). they played a mix of new wave, blues, funk, hard rock, avant garde and even some french chansons. their eclectic mix and experimental approach to music would have a great impact on belgian bands such as deus and zita swoon. their eponymous album t.c. matic from 1981 has their biggest hit >o la la la< on it, a song that can still rock the dance floors today.

with another release that is made to be a soundtrack for sunny open air scenarios, acker records keeps living up to its name and pays tribute to the current summer season. in doing so, the label from mecklenburg one more time steps out of the line, since this release again distinguishes itself by a refreshing otherness. light and easy piano plonking as well as the lascivious french voice of singer rebecca dominate the atmosphere of ici, while its minimal electronic groove discreetly remains in the background. a really tropical feeling evolves in the long version of this track when playful synthesiser chords give rise to the idea of a steel drum. in his remix, mollono.bass manages to combine the very song-orientated approach of the original with a bouncy electronic arrangement. thus he not only creates a lot of dance floor thrust, but also provides the perfect link to rather conventional productions.

jay bliss is our first ever romanian signing. there has been a influx of superb romanian producers over the last years including a:rpia:r and the trend continues with bliss and his hermanndstadt collective. developing a style sitting somewhere between house and techno, with strong detroit roots he has released for the likes of immigrant, hudd trax and diynamic. pluto has been a staple of ralph lawsons sets for a while now, its a smooth and crisp tech house roller that recalls classic 2020 releases gone by, especially those of carl finlows. on the flip weve turned to skudge to give us their own take on pluto. weve been fans of skudge since they dropped their first single, and have had us transfixed with their excursions into pure analogue, loopy, dub techno ever since. their version of pluto is a different beast to the original, all stuttering percussion and menacing strings, a perfect counterbalance to the original version

after all these years nick wants to give something back to the audience and his true fans, which led him to the concept of his debut, each of the eleven tracks can be seen as a unique lovely flower embodied in music given to you as a sign of his gratefulness! the music speaks for itself and lovers of nick previous works like minimal summer, world dubbing etc. will surely find some new treasures here for their collection and for the novices this album is a great introduction to the inimitable trademark sound of nick solé!

viennas disko404 organisation are launching their very own label with a split ep by sun people and franjazzco. while the latter is one of the most passionate players in viennas underground music scene, sun people aka simon/off has already stirred international attention with releases on renowned labels such as immerse records or phuture shock musik. for this release franjazzco combined his enthusiasm for jazz, soul and disco with a weighty footwork / juke kit, resulting in three deadly 160bpm anthems.
on the flipside sun people deployed a more uk-influenced style with references to 90s jungle and uk garage … imagine tek9 meets duncan powell meets dj spinn.

unusually for a record (for me,at least), constants collects tracks written in four very different moments in time: some are recent - so recent ive only had the opportunity to play them out just a handful of times - while others are over one year old. i really wish the story behind this ep would be a bit more interesting so this text could completely blow your mind but im afraid there were no dragons, no sex, no drugs and definitely no rock n roll involved. all four were mostly produced by me while sipping coffee and wearing boxer shorts in front of a computer. i could somehow try to describe the music on here but it would probably take less for you to give it a listen. however, if you happen to be one of the humans that prefer reading about music. anyway, im really happy to see these finally out, especially on a label i have always looked up to like vakant. i really used to think smoke, kaden and ozer were aliens at some hopefully you will enjoy this music as much as i loved writing and playing it out.

next up on good ratio music is baldo, an artist who spent the past few months working in the back of this label getting prepared to release the third chapter in his own imprint. spies & lies is the name of his work which follows some brilliant remixes and tracks he did lately in labels like stranjjur and elevation recordings. as the story goes on after the great result of the tom ellis release, we wanted to give a different dimension to the label to bring it back into a more classical sound.

sleep ds bacon ep is the next offering from sydneys excellent death strobe imprint. sleep d are a couple of young cats from melbourne, the production duo are sure to be an integral part of the deep house explosion coming from their city, spearheaded by the likes of tornado wallace, fantastic man and the melbourne deepcast crew. the record has a range of flavours all tied together by a fundamental warmth and soulfulness. the title track flows and floats in a dreamlike state, whilst simultaneously nailing the groove from beat one. bubbles vs the cat takes it up a notch, entering the club realm with rich bass and tight rhythms. their remix of chet fakers love & feeling is certain to give any dance floor a collective orgasm, oozing an erotic strangeness as it heaves and thrusts away, while ischa has a tickle of techno thrown into the mix and, despite its druggy sedation, has a hidden energy for dancing feet. one limited pressing.

submerse is 23 year old rob orme who splits his time between north west england and tokyo. he has already had a guardian new band of the day feature, which claimed him to be making some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful (dance) music anywhere on the planet. this came after just a handful of eps and a free download album that blend his love of j-pop and 2 step. his debut ep for apollo showcases how his productions have moved on in complexity and accomplishment moving between the digital hip hop of 8bit romance and the glitchy electronica of cluster to the recognizable garage mutations of give it up and they always come back.

ander-traxx is a fresh label operating out of glasgow with the intent of releasing righteous underground house, and although mainly a platform for the labels founder alex-ander to showcase his own productions, ander-traxxs remit also includes the presentation of unknown talent for future releases. for this first release, alex steps up to the plate to deliver because of me, followed by 3 remixes from artists born and raised in glasgow. the original kicks things off with its intro of glacial pads and jittery hats, before quickly delving into a seriousely deep groove brimming with melodic layers. although because of me gives a strong nod to the recent developements of producers like omar s and kyle hall, it undoubtedly has the hallmarks of an alex-ander production, his unique arrangements coming to the forefront while still complimenting the crisp percussion that drives the track forward. carlos nilmmns (co founder of the formidable solab production unit) mix is a much more off-kilter and submerged affair. nilmmns plays down the epic quality of the original and adds chugging rhythmics and sweetcured piano work for a lesson in divine repetition. mesumas feedback mix goes in for the dancefloor attack, not surprising for a gentleman whos previous work has seen releases on hardgroove and seventh sign. rolling toms and a booming kick meet aquatic vocal samples and spectral harmonicas, and will still please those partial to deeper sounds. last up to give because of me the rework treatment is meschi (lunar disko, lux, snuff traxx), who mixes his chicago influenced analogue stylings perfectly with the source material. stripped down crescendos build up to a euphoric drop, and meschis elated melodies bring another twist to this excercise in deep funk. because of me is one of those rare e.ps that works just as well in a non-club enviroment as it does on the dancefloor. with this warning shot, alex-ander will surely be capturing the ears of many in 2012 and beyond.
