while david moufang, also known as move d, certainly needs no introduction, the label polyfon remained a tip for insiders. it might seem like a long shot, but that’s probably what led to the fact that the paths of david moufang and wolfram both – one of the polyfon founders – crossed a few years back. the erfurt located imprint was mostly recognized for its underdog releases from berlin-based tomtomgroove (the funkman), steffen baldo aka ugly drums from cologne (basement amusement park, the next room) and even workshops mastermind lowtec who released his critically acclaimed angstrom ep with the thuringian label.

german-born and raised product & our personal friend steffen baldo (aka ugly drums) has been doing quietly doing his thing for many years now. not one for fluff, trends, or anything of the sort - he teams up with his mate chesney for session of straight up deep, underground house business & the result is the alec holland ep. pressing on translucent green coloured vinyl.

cologne based lone ranger, producer, coffee drinker and occasional bike rider steffen baldo aka ugly drums has been fine tuning the spokes of his career for 10 hard working years. making early marks in the scene with his -next room ep- on german based label polyfon, which received support from moodymann, mcde and cemented his reputation early on. steffen later released dance floor workouts on rush hour, fifty fathoms deep, black key records, quintessential and kolor ltd

following the release of little big orchestra last year, good ratio music presents its fifth installment named: the time is now. a four tracker ep that collect forces onto the same piece of wax from kresy, tom ellis, baldo feat. lady blacktronika and carlo.

waehlscheibe stays true to its dub house approach last heard on waehl 003 with p.laoss: the swiss label has compiled four wonderfully relaxed and dubby tracks by various artists for release 004 – again vinyl only! alessandro crimi starts the record off with his incredibly deep >gravitation< which revolves around an ultra wam and morphing pad. s&ros >drunken hats< is just as funky as its dubby and perfectly fits the labels philosophy – just like a.s cudias >cadendo< which relies on super sweet rhodes and pianos to form a deep and melodic house song – two fantastic tunes. baldo from spain finishes the ep with his smooth oldschool house track >deep & down< which delights with tons of machine funk. waehlscheibe continues to amaze with these four musical gems that underline the labels talent to assemble brilliant musicians and compile wonderfully deep records. once more all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

the second release of suricate is a collaboration between ezlv and larra skye. she is a young toronto songwriter who sings with a sweet, lyrical voice tinged with folk and jazz! we got mihaela ellsworth and the guys from combine to define on the remixes!

we are extremely happy to kick off 2012 with the second release of good ratio music. after capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide with “money ep” from chasing kurt, it is time to warm up your senses with this emotional “one by one” by our friend tom ellis. a great 2012 starting for this new label runned by carlo and baldo. four evocative songs are composing by this ep which feels pretty organic and sensitive at the same time. you might be ready to embark in such an affecting voyage built upon those ever imperfect harmonies and natural rythm. without any apparent fear we can catalogue this ep in the mood of an experiment close to deep house. definitely it is coming from hundred of harmonic sounds and light melodies, everything mixed up with great sax samples and voices to go further than a dancefloor moving. in this way we need to say big thanks to michiel renger & sammy maine for their contributions in the sax and voice respectively. basically it will be a pleasure to make you feel captured over the clouds after the listening

gly drums! real ugly drums? well, in fact it doesnt matter! quintessentials 25 is a stunning 3-tracker from new signing ugly drums aka steffen baldo (who released an obscure white label on rush hour recently). steffen is a master when it comes to deep spooky house tunes, just check the a-side track >alright alright<. yes, it has a slight tp feel we think. the b-side shows steffens second love, which is pure house music with a disco twist. ugly? not at all, it’s beautiful

polytone remains in deep territories and has signed two of the most exciting tracks of drei farben house (brut!) so far. on final call the berlin resident succeeds in building a bridge between minimal aesthetics and the musicality of deep house which has rarely been heard in this form. in this 8-minute track a whole series of musical themes are flashing yet held together by a lot of instinctive feeling. on looking back to control drei farben house is just as deep and melodically interesting and again relies on unusual track structures. in his remix matthias vogt from motorcitysoul works out the chords and melody themes of the original even more and turns final call into an exciting, swelling affair whereas newcomer baldo (dubhe) transforms the original track into a brilliant and wonderfully classic piece of dubtechno.

polyfon label boss bodo opened the peckham’s coffee house in erfurt and dedicates catalog number 7 to the coffee house. 5 tracks from the friends of the house: tomtomgroove, steffen baldo, immer.chic, rubrique & siggatunez and t.patton let the coffee house feeling flow into the tracks, sometimes jazzy, sometimes disco but always having the deep house focus in mind. tasty deep house!
