UNWIND EP, FORCE (EMERGE RMX)
iron curtis has felt like a polytone artist for quite a while now. he recently delivered a breathtaking remix for matthias vogt, and shared a split ep with the man himself, terrence dixon. hes also played several label nights, but indeed unwind is his first very own ep on polytone. the opening track riders is our floor filler here. a subsonic bass experience of the more intensive kind. its a pure groover, with a surprisingly long lasting breakdown that never lacks on intensity. cream on the a2 is a stellar ambient joint, with rhythmic elements and cosmic pads. on the flip we have the title track, unwind, with an unconventional basic groove, bleepy touches and trademark 707 drum machine sounds. pure and stunning deepness. the final track is a remix from force/emerge and leads unwind into techno territory. polytone stands for diversity, and again demonstrates the labels vision of versatility here.
IMAGINARY FRIEND (CARL FINLOW REMIX)
ASTEROID RIDING EP
after his successful remix of orions gravity johannes volk returns to polytone with his debut ep. two excellent techno tracks are in place and a spaced out ambient piece called it could happen describes the mysterious view from a spacecraft cockpit into the wideness of the universe. on the a-side volk blows the whistle of the ep s title -asteroid riding- with funky chords accompanied by a wide deep bassline, short samples, classic percussions and a cropped stomping kick-drum, that let you ride through the orbit. on the b-side -earthbound- pounds with a broad hollow kick, arpeggiated synths, alerting sounds and a harmonically settled type of string-line that eases the elements diversity like the blue planets gravity. within the tracks that have been built to transport the feel of time and space, johannes volk again pushes himself on the cutting edge of electronic music.
HIGH ON ENDORPHIN LOW ON GASOLINE (BENEDIKT FREY REMIX)
ynk’s 2nd ep for polytone is much more than a continuation of his earlier records on polytone and tenderpark. instead, the young artist wants his new ep to be seen as an autonomous work which draws on a multitude of different materials. this leads to a very fluid texture of samples, synths and drum machines and a very detailed structure at first sight - however, all elements fit into each other very nicely and make way for the bigger picture if you take a step back.
GRAVITY (JOHANNES VOLK REMIX)
polytone recordings is back with a three-track ep featuring two originals from orion and a raw remix from johannes volk.
MAINTAIN (VINCE WATSON, BLEAK SCENE RMXS)
this is matthias vogts third installment on polytone recordings! with maintain he proves distinct feeling for musicality once more: as vogt is an accomplished jazz pianist, he is able to move easily between uplifting drive and harmonic substructures. the flip side deals with the welcoming of two illustrious remix artists to polytones roster: bleak and vince watson. bleak is renowned for having his musical output released on labels like delsin and deeply rooted house.
PACERS / SPIRALS
polytone recordings first mini-jubilee is due, and congratulations coming in directly from detroit and berlin! first felicitator is terrence dixon of tresor fame. his track pacers is an intriguing 10-minute-journey. on the flip we find spirals a stirring track from iron curtis. after his remix for matthias vogts together as one (pltr004) the berlin based producer delivers his first original for polytone
THE JOINT - LAUER REMIX (10 INCH)
with ynks 10inch single polytone adds another musical facet to the labels eclectic approach. having shown his musical open-mindedness with releases on tenderpark and maria colors, ynk further underlines his reputation as a highly versatile electronic producer with the joint: over a tricky midtempo funk beat ynk assembles various 70s soul samples, thus creating a warm athmosphere which is modern and aware of tradition at the same time. on the flip side lauer takes the original and turns it into a straight and sunny house track full of classic vibes with feelings of euphoria and memories from back in the day rushing through our bodies
STILLACH - THE REMIXES (10 INCH)
ultraphat berlin berghain style... bangin techno remixes , coming from markus suckut & roberto bosco
after ed davenport and oliver deutschmann where hosting polytones 005 release >the kristian slayter ep<, they once again impressively prove that they are among the most exciting producers of our time with their new work >the conspiracy<.there is no holding still with that pumping bass and the ever changing melodys over the powerful background.with dark and fascinating intensity, davenport & deutschmann create a timeless masterpiece. belgian techno-producer peter van hoesen even adds up to the hypnotic mood in his rework. he creates an outstanding floorfiller with excellent dramatics and a brilliant sound. two spectacular tracks from polytone, fresher than ever
COPYING THE FUTURE EP
the musical heavyweight matthias vogt is back on polytone. after the success of his first ep >together as one< - sold out vinyl edition, excellent feedback from top djs, first track on the big city beats compilation vol. 13 cd 3 - the second ep arrives on polytone. the polytone boys knew right away that >copying the future< has the potential to be a classic. a track with character and a high recognition value: hypnotic rave stabs and uplifting chords combined with a driving groove will send shivers down each true music lovers spine. >copying the future< is delivering deja vus without copying the past - a great track with a past and a future, deeply rooted in the here and now. >stillach< claps its way into every listeners ear. the b side of the ep named after a mountain stream in the allgäu is calm and also powerful with a slow, minimal and very tight groove. vogt is going deeper! matthias vogt once again demonstrates his great musical skill and versatility.
THE KRISTIAN SLAYTER EP
supported by: reboot, dubfire, ewan pearson, samuel l session, raresh, tim xavier, christian smith,.. with oliver deutschmann & ed davenport polytone proceeds on its way to focus on exceptional artists who have something really profound to say musicwise. quite slowly, but highly stringently deutschmann and davenport build up this musical journey until, without really realising, youre in the middle of a very slamming house track of a truely oldschool kind which gains further drama due to subtle chord changes. in his remix, matthias vogt from motorcitysoul further emphasises the tracks house character by adding more chords and then lets the deepness culminate in a wonderful break. robert bosco totally breaks out of the traditional catgories house and techno and combines the best of both worlds in his remix distilling it to a kind of essence of electronic music. all three tracks have in common an immensely consistent approach and a pleasingly trend-resistant understanding of deep music
TOGETHER AS ONE (WHITE COLOURED VINYL)
supported by: nick curly, anja schneider, samuel l session, steve bug, will saul, milton jackson.. after releases from drei farben house and paulo olarte, polytone is joined by matthias vogt. being a member of motorcitysoul (together with frankfurts house legend crock), matthias vogt has been teaching lessons in deepness for years now. in his solo works vogts profound education as a jazz musician is just as present. thus, >together as one< is carried by wonderfully deep chords, which are accentuated by a contrapuntal bassline. a classic male vocal highlights the soulfulness even more and turns this track into a marvellous deephouse affair.
VAYAS DONDE VAYAS EP
incl. rmxs by antonelli & drei farben house
easy house grooves and deep, chord-driven techno – two versions of electronic music paulo olarte is particularly interested in as he has proven with his records on diynamic or his own imprint fresh fish. for his first 12 inch on frankfurts new entry, polytone, former hamburg-resident olarte gives full scope to his perferences. >vayas donde vayas< comes with a wonderfully housey feeling and a rich fund of harmonies, whereas >sweet sugar< plays the role of the techno bouncer for the tradition-conscious and discerning dancefloor with its deep detroit flavour. in his remix of >vayas donde vayas<, antonelli concentrates on the lightness of the or iginal and moves towards a maximum of funkyness with a mulitude of thrilling details. drei farben house rounds off the remix flip side with one of his long suspense arrangements he has come to be known for, which sends us to house heaven when the fine chords eventually fully unfold. polytone remains one of the most interesting, diverse newcomers of recent times.
FINAL CALL EP
played by luciano, laurent garnier, timo maas, d julz, bart skills and more!
polytone remains in deep territories and has signed two of the most exciting tracks of drei farben house (brut!) so far. on final call the berlin resident succeeds in building a bridge between minimal aesthetics and the musicality of deep house which has rarely been heard in this form. in this 8-minute track a whole series of musical themes are flashing yet held together by a lot of instinctive feeling. on looking back to control drei farben house is just as deep and melodically interesting and again relies on unusual track structures. in his remix matthias vogt from motorcitysoul works out the chords and melody themes of the original even more and turns final call into an exciting, swelling affair whereas newcomer baldo (dubhe) transforms the original track into a brilliant and wonderfully classic piece of dubtechno.
after three digital-only releases polytone switches to vinyl and has signed new tracks from andreas heiszenberger for its first 12 inch release. heiszenberger has enjoyed great success last year with his release on brut! and links to the atmosphere and beat structure of his predecessor here. for polytone heiszenberger also relies on cool syncopated grooves and his heavy trademark beats as well as abstract pads which mingle with sweet harmonies and his laconic vocal snippets.the record is crowned with a great remix by popnoname who has just scored a hit with his new album on italic. of course, popnoname leaps at heiszenbergers harmonies, but also comes up with a really big surprise in the middle of the remix! cool, well-rounded record and a strong start of the vinyl business for polytone.
