‘family horror x good times’ is an extensive 15 tracks compilation, where the leipzig label reflects on an intense and impassioned decade. kann asked close friends and long time idols to play their part to the full to complete the third edition of the label’s family horror compilation series. the outcome is a clear snapshot of the musical inclinations of the three label founders, sevensol & map.ache (aka manamana) and bender, encapsulating an idiosyncratic, modern house sound that demands an emotional response. the compilation comes rounded off by a booklet of photographs from ria aka lux which just like the music captures some of the beautiful ‘good times’ from this very special period, this time on paper.

the unstoppable most excellent unlimited charges ahead with the ninth in the heralded mr. k 45s edits series, with this latest edition the most intriguing to date. deep in danny krivit s voluminous collection is a 7-inch acetate rescued from the records left behind by master mixer and dj walter gibbons when he passed away in 1994. the mysterious plate, simply labeled -1, 2, 3,- was custom cut by gibbons for his personal use in the early 70s when he and a partner operated a service called melting pot sounds that provided one-off copies of otherwise unobtainable imports for nyc disc jocks. most of the 20-odd known releases on melting pot sounds have been identified, but the true provenance of -1, 2, 3- has remained elusive. the tune is a screaming, instrumental disco delight, with aggressive clavinet riffing broken up periodically by raunchy sax. for this most excellent unlimited issue, mr. k meticulously transferred his unique gibbons acetate and further intensified the already propulsive track with a few choice edits of his own. not to be outdone, the flip side focuses on a ferocious percussion break that has previously only been available on a very poor quality 12-inch single. -sweet summer suite- by love unlimited orchestra has long been noted for its intro, a concoction of conga, cowbell, cuica and cabasa that drives dancers wild with its relentless, intense groove underpinned by a booming bass slide. making its 7-inch debut here, the groove has been extended and teased as only a master could do, complimenting the a-side and creating a powerful dj weapon. as always, this most excellent unlimited single has been mastered and pressed to the highest standards with loud dj usage in mind, and will be available in extremely limited quantities

excise is a vinyl-focused label based out of san francisco, california. each release pairs a regional californian techno artist and a local visual artist, thus serving as a platform to fuse the two local creative scenes. its first release features label co-owner muon with 3 hypnotic raw analog tracks. many of these tracks received heavy play time in the san francisco underground, and now are seeing a broader release for the first time.

back in 90s san francisco scott, gavin and robbie hardkiss helped pioneer the american underground scene with their club nights, warehouse parties and groundbreaking record label. they forged a new direction for dance music with a string of vinyl releases by hawke, god within, little wing and rabbit in the moon, culminating in the seminal compilation delusions of grandeur released in 1995. delusions of grandeur made the billboard dance charts, went to no.1 on the rolling stone alternative album chart and launched the international dj/production careers of the hardkiss brothers. in 2018 to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the album was remastered and re-released with this new vinyl.

sterns edits returns after their well received and recently repressed amadou balake excursions, this time with ben gomori turning his hand to guinea for a third instalment in the series of re-works from the sterns music catalogue of african gems. balla et ses balladins were one of guinea s national orchestras formed as a result of the newly elected president, sekou toures authenticite policy of the early 1960s, which sought to promote guinea s cultural identity following independence from france in 1958. gomori takes the scalpel to two cuts recorded during their years on the state-run syliphone label, making good use of bandleader balla s lively trumpet playing. the gently haunting nyo is taken on a stomping slo-mo chug with a head-nodding bassline and stuttering fx creating a shimmering effect on the tropical guitars, while the rousing horns of wilikabo are laid over with rasping synth bass for a punchy juxtaposition. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

the 20/20 vision offshoot basic vision continues to mine the folklore of the legendary back to basics with a selection of carefully selected deep cuts from the history of house music. chris cuevas hip hop already sounded strong when masters at work chunked it up in dub form, and then rob mello perfected the jam when he performed an extended edit on the breakbeat fuelled jam. eddie fowlkes where will i be? is a classic slice of 90s vocal house, while free energy is an uptempo deep house jam for those feel good peak time moments. black science orchestra sound utterly timeless on the soaring new jersey deep, laying the soul on thick and keeping things fresh and funky throughout.

lena willikens is the kind of artist whos only capable of following one path her own. in many ways, shes the archetypal selector, an unpredictable dj who often eschews all notions of genre in favor of what she describes as different temperatures, different time zones, different moods and a healthy portion of chaos. although her methods have certainly proven effective on the dancefloor, willikens also refuses to be bound by its traditional limitations.

timeless legend are a soul group from columbus, ohio. their “synchronised” album from 1980 is one of the rarest rare grooves and both original copies and the single “i was born to love you” currently sell for over £1.000 a copy. for rsd, love vinyl in conjunction with expansion bring you an earlier 1979 single “everybody disco” (itself worth over £200), a remix and “i was born to love you” on a 12” single limited to 750 copies. the remix of “everybody disco” is by the mighty zaf & phil asher who command major respect from the current disco scene and have transformed the song into what will become one of the most significant disco style dance releases of 2018. this is the first and only time for these tracks on 12” single.

tokyo based dj/producer tsuyoshi ogawa presents -seven samurai-. this vinyl-only label has been founded in 2018 and it is operating in tokyo, japan. it pays tribute to the japanese legendary movie director -akira kurosawa-. therefore, the name of the label comes from his film -seven samurai- and the tracks on the vinyl have been recorded using sound effects from the original movie s scenes. -seven samurai 001- is the memorable first ep produced by tsuyoshi ogawa. the 1st track, -seven samurai-, was recorded using the voice sample from the movie -seven samurai- by akira kurosawa: -everything s riding on this battle!-, which brings us a sign of the start of the samurai battle. here, the 2nd track -shadow enemy-, expresses the fear and tension of invisible enemies, whereas the 3rd track -kannon soleil- leads to the end of the battle by buddha who comes from the sky. this ep is dedicated to kurosawa as a new spiritual soundtrack for seven samurai.

the a-side, “flamboyant move” is a fitting nod to one of the best rappers ever, a classic sample (james gilstrap’s “move me”) cut up with boom gap drums. if l were still alive, he’d be dropping daps. the b-side is a reworking of “i don’t understand” is a massive flip of the sister sledge’s “easier to love”, moved up to a nice dance tempo, with, of course the patented dusty donuts pro-duction treatment. you’ll be dropping the needle over and over on this updated and supercharged edit. so get on the subway and take a trip from uptown to bk with this new joint from the dusty donuts crew. marc hype & naughty nmx reflip these classics in such a tasteful and dope way, your audience will love it.

last spotted on correspondants fourth annual collection, jennifer cardini and noura labbani return to yovavs majestic slice of cold wave theatre running wave and develop its universe on their ever-bubbling dischi autunno imprint. still as epic and dramatic as it ever was, its narrative is now galvanised by a typically dynamic edit from gerd janson (who also remixed yovavs last single on correspondant), three originals and one remix. railroad is an animated chip-like adventure with layers of leads cleverly interlaced around the lolloping lofi kicks file detective plays the consummate creeper as a slinky metallic beat suddenly melts into a sleazy, sneaky lead that keeps peeping over its shoulder space work closes the show on a cosmic high with such a strong emotional pull it could make sabres of paradise blush while brassica add crucial footnotes with uptempo breakbeat remix so elastic and euphoric it could flex a bicep or two. stunning, immersive and truly singular no one is doing it like yovav right now.

len faki mixes , transparent vinyl , len faki takes on a couple of classics for 007 of his ongoing special edits series lfrmx, striking a perfect balance between the old and new. first up is a tweaked version of steve stolls 1998 lp-excerpt reciproheat, elegantly edged while carrying the proper weight to move. dj shufflemasters booming housedust release from the same year however has a wacky tack to its groove, its mind-bending qualities yet amplified by faki boiling down the tempo to more current confines. the flipside goes all deep, starring a rework of valentino moras recent space odyssey. building upon the originals lively tribal percussion, the prevailent mystical mood is spliced up, readying the track special moments in an otherwise up-tempo-environment. a gently pulsing edit of ubx127s barabrus eventually puts a meditative and soothing finishing touch to the ep. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the berlin organization straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

never afraid to get their hands dirty, the frigio faithful have gone crate diving for their latest haul of treasure. the material for ecdisis vol.1? lost tracks from the past, patted down, spruced up and given a couple of shots of whiskey by juanpablo, dunkeltier and, a new member of the family, vinilette. from barcelona, vinilette is a dj and producer who isn t afraid to pull a musical punch or two and she is in fighting form with her two offerings.

first up, the 1986 ebm stomper -god save the king- by son of sam is revamped and reconstructed into a psychedelic rollercoaster of crashing cymbals, spiralling samples and bruising bars. the clock is being turned further back, this time belgium s new wave punk outfit arbeid adelt! are the source material with their 1987 track -help (me ik stik)- muscling up on a diet of raging rhythms and splintering guitar strings. the head honcho, juanpablo, meets up with an old member of the family dunkeltier (aka dj sneaker) to finish our journey. the pair travelling back to 1983 to catalonia and the prog-jazz musings of pegasus. -perseguido por el rayo- is tuned up and transformed into an electronic bomb. addictive grooves and hooks are polished with beats getting a shot in the arm for a hauntingly sinister piece of disco deviance.

twice aka patrick gibin established himself as a selector to be reckoned with through his black aroma re-edit series, and now he brings his penchant for deep cuts and dusty reworks to the rnt catalog. stretching over the a-side is sunrise, a bouncy sunny synthy affair, seemingly made for summer rooftops and pool parties. on the flip, searching updates a woke soulful 70s anthem, and take flights loops a boogie instrumental with hypnotic simplicity. re-edits done proper.

hunee presents a collection of his favorite dance floor cuts from the 70ties till modern times. pressed on 3 slices of vinyl (+download code) biggest tip! going from afro to disco to techno, hunchin all night holds a wide spectrum of songs, tracks by the wonderful boncana maïga, pat thomas, black beat niks, kenny larkin, larry heard, mappa mundi and many more. hunee, aka hun choi, is a korean berliner who has been drawn in music since a very young age. after working in record stores and studying musicology he resided in amsterdam, where he released his debut album hunch music. as a dj he has always followed a hunch, which gave him wings to communicate the music he loves with crowds all over the world. with hunchin all night, hunee expresses his relationship with the dance floor.

its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca’s new subsidiary source records. but group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. no reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. between the two seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. with well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the super disco edit roster.
