for the second release on their black series, ravage invited electronic music veterans al matthews and patrick walker to team up under their forward strategy group moniker. the last release of these legends was quite a few years ago, but the wait was worth it. their east port rangers ep kicks-off with nine and one, a hypnotic, heavy-loaded stomper containing some uplifting, loopy vocals. following is the most minimalistic track of the ep, lisp your way, yet it still has a lot of substantial punch and lash to it. the b-side starts off with heavy broken beats, combined with a classic rave sound, taking the listener back to the blistering sound of the nineties. finally, the ep oozes down with the track in abeyance, a haunting, down-tempo track with a melody to send shivers down your spine, which could be deemed a real creeper.

temple traxx is my brand new label specializing in material from the early days of techno and house. at the time i was living in nyc and ran the electronic record shop temple records and a weekly techno party called “killer” at legendary save the robots. i was releasing my music on force inc./mille plateaux, djungle fever/structure (now kompakt) or harvest/emi for europe and in the states with smile communication, direct drive, or freddy fresh’s electro imprint socket, besides my own temple records nyc, super-8, and el turco loco labels. now, 22 years later, i am excited to curate a new outlet for sleazy-machine-music called temple traxx in homage to the pioneers and early electronic music community i still call my friends: jammin’ unit, dr. walker, who together form air liquide, kerosene, dj silver (paolo dinola), bolz bolz, alec empire, freddy fresh, mike ink, and bionaut just to name the closest circle. all re-edited and freshly mastered. “bad computer” was originally released in 1995 on temple records nyc and is now the first 12” on temple traxx. produced by brother jammin’ unit, who also signed for re-mastering, and myself as bizz o.d. in wild pitch matters. cube 40 was always meant to be the ramones of techno by repeating the same track idea over and over. compare with “you make me function” and you’ll get the idea. currently in the temple traxx pipe-line: mass-turbator “s/t”, jammin’ unit “remote car baby”, khan & walker “schleichfahrt”, 4e, and captain comatose “$100” old and new mixes.

remixes by ada and jarle brathen info text richard davis is a gentleman with a proper musical history moving from london to berlin in the late 90s and having some spectacular releases under his belt as a producer, composer and a singer. as a vocalist richard has collaborated with, among others, swayzak, trentemöller and bomb the bass. on his new ep safety net he is turning his composing skills back to the future and his voice and songs are sounding quite like post new wave meets 1980s scott walker. alongside with fantastic remixes by hamburgs one and only ada as well as norwegian berlin dude jarle bröthen this massive ep is a masterful piece of modern pop music.

this is my best album for sure, says todd. we cant be exactly sure on that one, all three albums from todd bodine have been great. forms however, is perhaps the most complex and mature album that the berlin producer and dj has accomplished to date. and its also out with us! todd has worked at full speed over the last six months to bring us this fine piece of work. as a dj playing around the world and as a producer in the highest ranks of consistency, todd bodine has constantly developed as an artist. releases and remixes on respected labels, and collaborations with various artists have made him an internationally popular electronic musician. in 2007 he finally began to perform as a live act, and what club would better fit todds new live premiere than the panorama bar in berlin!? todd shows with forms, his innate knowledge of the two sides of electronic dance music. this is a meeting of peaktime euphoria with the relaxing bliss of the hazy morning light. a meeting of hypnotic natural rhythms and driving cut-up sounds. todd can impress you with dancefloor bombs and also with his sophisticated sound visions. the sound of detroit would probably be the best comparison.

the house band of bunny ‘striker’ lee was formed in the mid-1970s by some of jamaica’s most prominent and musically expressive session players. the shifting core line-up spun off from the soul syndicate and thus typically featured earl ‘chinna’ smith and tony chin on guitar and bernard ‘touter’ harvey on organ. carlton ‘santa’ was the main drummer, but carlton barrett of the wailers band and ‘benbow’ creary were sometimes featured. most crucially, on bass, aston ‘family man’ barrett shifted to fully fullwood (and occasionally, earl ‘bagga’ walker), until robbie shakespeare took over, becoming the bandleader. the band was responsible for the popular ‘flying cymbal’ style that took jamaica by storm, and you can hear it in abundance on this killer dub set from 1975, its excellent cuts of cornell campbell and johnnie clarke material mixed at king tubby’s studio - a must for all serious fans of dub.

the message at the depth is underground rap for the digital age, far removed from the moldy crates and dusty beats of krushs mo wax classic strictly turntablized. his beats are digital, heavily resampled and quantized, splintering off like drum n bass patterns but possessing a depth and clarity not seen since the heyday of massive attack.

500 copies limited edition! flash forward is happy to repress one of kerri chandler s most beautiful records.first come first served ! -black vinyl label boss alan russell first met kerri when alan was writing for echoes magazine and kerri was signed (by a&r man johnnie walker) to champion records in the uk. alan was interviewing dee dee brave at a hotel in west london as part of the promotion for her album on champion which was released in 1991. alan was already familiar with kerri s work such as superlover and set if off and with his productions on movin records, so asked about kerri and when told that he was also in london as part of the dee dee s tour, the two met and began talking. kerri was slightly surprised that alan knew all of his early releases and the two bonded. they met again in new york when alan was attending the nms (precursor to the wmc in miami) and stayed in touch. years later when alan had started black vinyl the two met again and alan asked if kerri would do something for his label. kerri soon delivered a dat containing these three tracks. the track my old friend was originally titled for my old friend alan , which alan shortened so it would look better on the label! the rest, as they say, is history.-

22 years ago saw the release of goldie’s debut album ‘timeless’ which truly changed the face of drum’n’bass, hardcore and jungle. the seminal record featured the iconic track ‘inner city life’ - the vocals for which were performed by the late diane charlemagne. in 2011, the guardian described the release of ‘timeless’ as one of the -50 key events in the history of dance music-. mobo award-winning songwriter, dj, producer, visual artist and actor goldie (mbe) will release a new double album ‘the journey man’ on june 16th, all written and produced by goldie. collaborators on ‘the journey man’ album include vocalist and songwriter natalie duncan, terri walker, tyler lee daly, natalie williams, jose james, naomi pryor as well as goldie’s wife, mika wassenaar price. goldie is also one of only a handful of artists ever to co-write with david bowie – on the track ‘truth’ from the drum‘n’bass pioneer’s second album, ‘saturnz return’ released in 1998. the album also featured distinguished collaborators such as noel gallagher and krs-one. goldie will be performing an exclusive, sold-out set of shows at london’s esteemed venue ronnie scott’s on 24th and 25th of february, where he will be performing with the heritage ensemble along with ‘the journey man’ vocalists terri walker, tyler lee daly and natalie duncan.

in 2016. i rented out a small piano studio in east london for nearly the whole year and set out to write an introspective, trendless, and mostly beatless album. inspired by albums from this mortal coil and scott walker, who also sought freedom to work outside of the expectations of their previous work, i limited the instrumentation to mostly an acoustic piano and effects, which left space to expose a lot of emotional vulnerabilities about myself and people close to me. writing lullabies about being a mother in a dystopian world, with pensive words about swimming against the current as a female artist, i felt free enough to tell untold truths that i’ve never felt comfortable talking about within music. free, liberated, empowered. naked.

fink veröffentlicht ein minimalistisches blues album auf seinem eigenen imprint r’coup’d! um die wartezeit auf das nächste -reguläre- fink-studioalbum zu verkürzen, veröffentlicht fink im märz -fink’s sunday night blues club, vol. 1- auf seinem eigenem ninja tune-sublabel r coup d. dies ist die erste, reine blues-veröffentlichung von fin greenall. produziert und gemischt wurde das album von fink und flood (u2, pj harvey, warpaint), aufgenommen in greenalls studio in berlin. jeder song wurde dabei in kurzer zeit live mit einem vintage-mikrofon und -verstärker aufgenommen. manchmal braucht es eben einfach nicht mehr. greenall sagt darüber: -most of this record is one take, from all of the guys who helped me get there ... new orleans legend david shirley on drums and the weird and wonderful colin stetson also really brought the heat to the table. -my love of blues has always been there, before i even knew what it was. records by john lee hooker, t-bone walker and chuck berry really spoke to me. for two springs, in 2015 and 2016, i immersed myself in the blues, scouring record stores whilst on tour to inspire and educate myself ... to do something raw, rough, and live, a record that just was, for its own sake. you d think that writing blues was easy - but it isn t ... it s easy to copy, sure, and to cover, definitely, but to write original blues that is more than just a photocopy of the past actually turned out to be equally challenging and natural...- - fink

die zweite single aus dem neuen booka shade-album “galvany street” mit archive-sänger craig walker on vocals ist der disco-inspirierte feel-good-song “numb the pain”, für den das duo gleich zwei neue versionen abliefert: die knackig-kurze single version plus den clubfreundlichen extended mix, der an legendäre 80’er 12” mixes erinnert. wie üblich enthält jede singleauskopplung auch einen exklusiven, neuen bonustrack, hier ist es der instrumentale tech-house-tune “fade away”.

dark sky stehen für weiterentwicklung. nie hat sich das londoner duo auf einen sound festgelegt oder in einer nische ausgeruht. was alle ihre gefeierten veröffentlichungen eint, ist eine leidenschaft für fast alle formen von elektronischer musik auch neben dem dancefloor und ein brillantes technisches handwerk. das bleibt auch auf -othona- so, dem zweiten album von dark sky für monkeytown records. auf neun tracks erfinden sich matt benyayer und tom edwards wieder ein bisschen neu und verknüpfen modernen techno, klassische electronica und ihre britischen bassmusik-wurzeln zu einem berührenden und absolut eigenwilligen ganzen.

manchmal ist eine rückbesinnung hilfreich um sich neu zu orientieren. im falle von booka shade ist ihnen dadurch vielleicht ihr stärkstes album ihrer gesammten karriere geglückt. wir sind sehr stolz auf all das, was wir mit unserer elektronischen clubmusik erreicht haben. mit movements 10 haben wir dann im letzten jahr dieses kapitel abgeschlossen. 2017 bedeutet für uns eine musikalische veränderung.(walter booka shade) ich mag die vermischung aller unserer einflüsse wirklich sehr 80er synth-pop, 90er manchester sound, bis hin zu aktuellen klängen von the weeknd und ähnlichen acts ist alles dabei und verbindet sich zu einem modernen und einnehmenden ganzen. daydream 01 is the debut release of the daydream imprint – a brand new label based in france and focused on forceful groovy house exclusively on wax. the imprint seeks to offer an intelligent and efficient vision of house music in order to provide perfect dj cuts. this first ep delivers 4 original tracks produced by talents from france and germany. mjog launches the various with “be forgotten”, a beautiful journey balanced between deep synths and solid drums. then, with “eleven”, porter presents a raw and dynamic cut where harsh sounds and hypnotic pads play together on a sustain rhythm. on the flip, “future” from walker is all about dubby sounds, loud kick and deep bass, a very immersive homemade tune. finally, mjog closes this first chapter with “peace is at hand”, a classy and strong house cut designed for dance.
