cloud corridors is the first release of jan philipp longerich alias processed.sunshine and also the debut on his imprint fertile imagination music, which stands for puristic grooves, deep and dreamy vibes and an all in all raw sound that sticks tight to the original idea of a track. inspired by different formations of clouds and their movements, the record takes the lsistener from huge cloud castles in wolkenburg through cloud corridors down into the dark vibe of the fog. minimalistic drum manchine patterns, deep pads, hypnotic sequences and morphing basslines give the record its warm, lively and feral character. the lp was completely created out of live sessions with analog equipment and each track was recorded in one take. - these bouncing analog grooves are made for after hours in the early morning.

anton pieete is known for his classic, textured take on house & techno. the dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular eps for joris voorns rejected imprint. now he turns over his latest wares to ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of themenu. while it may be our starter, first dish peven is definitely more of a main course. heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass. our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of lite green. its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam. bn300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from the menu.

after a few months of silence following head honcho marco shuttles sing like a bird (reprise) ep, eerie records is back on duty with a strong and utterly refreshing techno release by talented artist serena butler, an obscure producer digged out of the submerged underworld as it already happened previously on shuttles imprint that got us used to releases by relatively unknown and underrated artists. arpeggiated synth lines layered on booming reverbed kick drums mixed with percussive elements of distorsion and lush pads make for a very playable release that is at the same time dreamy and deep, despite being also very organically open sounding, musical, and in many ways counter-trend and different to the dominating dark droning techno style that is so popular these days.

• umek reprises his zeta reticula moniker for a welcome return to billy nasty’s electrix label with an innovative ep comprised of 4 new tracks, split between the two spheres of electro and techno. the slovenian-born dj and producer should need no introduction, boasting more than two decades of experience, playing the world over, producing music for labels like toolroom, spinnin’, great stuff, intec or his own imprint, 1605 to name just a few, or presenting his hugely popular weekly radio show, behind the iron curtain. it’s been some time since a zeta reticula release on electrix, with ‘ep 1’ to ‘ep 4’ surfacing on the label between 2000 and 2003, although umek has continued the project more recently with tracks on 1605. the a-side of ‘ep 5’ delivers some electro flavour, opening with the serious electro-funk of ‘electric blood complete’, before the vintage sci-fi electronics and playful rave stabs of ‘euphonious’. over on the b-side the techno takes over with the deep and dub-drenched ‘encroach’ followed by the tough housey grooves of ‘radiate’ to complete this bold package.

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

the second release on the vinyl only series of apes go bananas finally drops. the label is the new imprint from steve bug and clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. as with the well-received first ep, all we have is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. lead cut ‘all we have settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. its got peak time written all over it. she cargo makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. ‘ape parade is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

after mike gervais’ strident work on sym017, ben sims’ symbolism imprint returns with spanish newcomer jlg’s four track ‘convolution’ ep. originally coming to sims’ attention via the demo section of his ‘run it red’ radio show/podcast, javier lg has previously released for dynamic reflection and substance but it’s the quality of his unreleased material that secured his place on symbolism. characterised by intricate and interwoven melodic rhythms, some at the forefront and some almost there, jlg’s debut for the label is an infectious and consummate affair.

after a quick 4 years hiatus, filled with releases on innervisions, maeve and a couple of remixes, aera is finally back on his own aleph music imprint with 3 unique tracks. a1. two planets is the most obvious track of the ep. an exercise in outsider trance, a pulsating, polyrhythmic synth propels the track forward, the intricate 707 pattern keeps a steady pace, while background strings provide all the drama. b1. stylistically reminiscent of aeras first releases on aleph music, black glitz is the deepest track of the bunch. floating on a cloud of dreamy pads and voices, that arpeggio makes you realise immediately who you are dealing with. b2. maskull is a rather ambiguous little tune. somewhat rough around the edges, sparkling in the darkness of late nights, dwelling in voices and fog, this is the one for the heads.

frank & tony aka artists formerly known as adultnapper and anthony collins, respectively, are it again on the former s new york based scissor & thread imprint. first up -apprentice- is a well-crafted deep house cut with swirling, captivating pads that build to a climax. lamento with its sexy bassline, playing off the thumping drum programming and yet more swirling pads that they ve proven to do so well. lastly modest season is the sort of smoky, dubby, after hours house that swiss producer agnes was known for similarly, back in the day.

friends & relations is a freshly minted imprint based in peckham, a neighbourhood that has gone from run-down dump to hipster haven in the space of a few short years. the label s first missive comes from its founder and proud peckham-dweller, ali nebraska gibbs, a producer best known for his missives on rush hour and mister saturday night. it s a predictably strong release, with both -stop playing with my heart- and -keep what ya got- showcasing gibbs skill for turning rubbery disco and soul gems into tasty, club-ready house cuts. he s particularly good at teasing out tracks via judicious use of sampled loops, as the deeper and smokier closer, -rat boogie-, deftly proves.

barcelona based dj/producer rainer delivers three originals within his debute ep on the imprint. + a special remix by dan andrei aka aloevaru
