accompany the reissue of woo s into the heart of love, emotional rescue is releasing a limited 7inch featuring songs not included on the vinyl pressing, plus a previously unreleased version of the beautiful title song, which only appeared in later form on their cd only, la luna album. with the original into the heart of love album only appearing as a 60 minute cassette-only release, several of the albums songs could not make the first time vinyl issue from emotional rescue. therefore, this limited edition 7inch includes two of those ommited songs. the wistful english folk duet between mark ives and sue amor on make me tea and it s sibling on the album, a little long way. possibly woo s most straight forward folk song, make me tea is as the title imagines a very particular english poem. recording as a duet between two late night lovers, awaking from post-love making slumber to find peace and with it, a nice, perfect cup of tea. however, it is the inclusion of the unreleased version of the title song, magic in the dark that is worth the admission price alone. taken from the cd only album, la luna, the original s short and gentle story of late night love is presented here in it s alternate demo form. a different vantage point is shown in revelation and then exhaltation. the sadder start expands in to a beautiful and wonderus folk celebration. mark s vocals and guitar are later joined by gentle rhythmic percussion from brother clive, before clarinets duet to a yearning finale. woo once again showing their unique mix of folk and new age electronics. a one off to cherish.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

a kaleidoscope of rainbow textures and rhythms disperse into the exotic soundscape of *tropical*. electronics, real folk instruments and noise-making objects feature here generously on this six-track concept album, blending together a sonic palette influenced by a rich variety of music, people and places. the material was initially written over the course of a few months during what seneviratne called *a beautiful burst of inspiration*. working with veteran producer asier leatxe ibanez d opakoa (electric lady studios, nyc), seneviratne then set about disassembling all the songs and re-working them meticulously, enriching the sounds by adding a huge range of live instrumentation, before processing the audio through vintage analogue studio gear. the vinyl lp comes with download code.

harry agius has been making waves as midland since 2010, releasing a series of increasingly impressive 12”s as a solo artist but also collaborating with the likes of ramadanman (pearson sound), breach and pariah on labels such as aus music, naked naked, works the long nights and his own graded imprint. he is also a prolific remixer who has lent his talents to artists such as lone, guy gerber, julio bashmore, dusky and more. we can proudly say he came to many people’s attention via his first phonica 12” ‘play the game’ back in 2010 and he has remained a friend and regular at the shop ever since. midland’s well deserved rise has been a delight to watch from the sidelines and we’re glad to welcome harry back to phonica with the fantastic ‘before we leave’. it starts slowly but surely as reverb soaked percussion comes to the fore, cushioned by the truly beautiful string melody, which we’re sure will be stuck in many a head this year! this could well be midland’s most deftly handled arrangement yet. running back’s gerd janson wisely decides to stick to the original track’s feel, letting the strings weave their magic, yet also brings the bassline and drums to the forefront. delicately but expertly done. midland rounds out the 12” with his barebones drums and percussion-only ‘bonus beats’ version, perfect dj tool material. we wish more records had these!

d3 recordings offshoot d3 elements is only three releases deep, but already their releases are reaching must-check status. following their recent release of a superb ep from us deep house veteran brian harden, the paris-based imprint offers up something a little different - an ep of gorgeously deep and melodic flavours that joins the dots between head-nodding instrumental hip-hop and floor-friendly 4/4 fare. there are plenty of surprises, too, including techno stalwart terrence parker delivering a flute-heavy downtempo head-nodder, some gorgeous beatdown from detroiter mike clark, and a thrillingly string-laden chunk of deep house bliss from the aforementioned harden.

detuned pianos, rough house beats and soulful vocal cuts makes doing your duty a deep, club oriented track with a classic feel. borrowed identitys beautiful remix conserves the original essence of the track and adds stabby techno elements and a punchy bassline, turning into a perfect peak-time tune for the rougher sets. pressure points is a dark, introspective track with a funky bassline that is suitable for the dancefloor, octo octa creates a deeper, smoother alternative to the original.

the people without can only be described as a body of work that seamlessly showcases the artists attention to detail and knowledge of sound design and texture. the people without as a whole takes the listener on a journey that is at times eerily beautiful and at others, powerfully mystical. metrist has managed to pull together a superb follow up to rsn002 that shows the depth and vision of resin over the years to come.

after the highly anticipated release of his third studio album decay, efdemin presents the first part of a remix series featuring his favourite producers. bristols underground hero asusu inflates the reduced album opener some kind of up and down yes with deepest bass and beautiful scapes to the max in a true photek-style. last years control by staffan linzatti was one of the favourite constants to be played in every efdemin or lawrence set. luckily his version of solaris is another epic hymn here with futuristic enhancements of the third kind.the most extraordinary piece on decay versions part 1 is the borderland states rework of parallaxis. efdemins studio-mate john gürtler recorded that beauty with adding acoustic instruments only and sounds like a meeting of moondog with wim mertens.
