foql is belonging to the same polish electronic music collective as marburg (see gooiland 10: v/a – club funny horse) but the sound of this project is truly different… in a way the hypatia ep is delicate and even fragile maybe… it has the ritual feeling like some of the music by coil has… next to that it has textures reminiscent of the future sound of london… and in some ways foql fuses ambient, electronix and techno in the same way kobosil sometimes does… in short.. this is a record for well informed and well educated music lovers.

a1.&a2. cutting edge london based dj producer duel launches his ibadan records debut with super track zed. in the studio duel hooks up with his comrade dos and execute their production skills and in addition jerome sydenham enters the frey to get down on the mix. the result is a healthy dose of avant-garde deep house on one hand and a virile dose of tech house on the other. this dj friendly romper is a sure banker!b1. jerome sydenham enters the deep techno realm in true vanguard style unleashing dogon. sparse vocals and tinges of acid and fat kicks shape this underground piece and put it right in the pocket. b2. mirror lines is a beautifully crafted contempo deep house track effortlessly combining a spirit of happiness with energetic resolve. this new york meets detroit flavor is the brainchild of jerome sydenham and amsterdam techno/house superstar shindoe, who is also making her ibadan records debut.

next on version is a remix set by the legend that is benny ill of horsepower productions. on the a-side you will find a stunning techno steppers rendition of orson’s -rise 6-. check the b-side for orson & hops -dread drumz- getting benny’s unique jungle treatment. both sides are tried and tested in the dance and have been rinsed on radio by respected djs such as kode9 and n-type. version 006 - the benny ill remixes - is a true soundsystem weapon and will be a killer in any serious selector’s war box.

los angeles-based producer ashtrejinkins steps aside from the beat scene that he has long associated himself with on “hood temperature” under the brown irvin alias. four cuts of bare-boned experimental house and techno - the sonic equivalent of standing on a street corner in south central l.a and observing the scene at 3am. it also features a remix from london-based producer g.w. under his ruffien alias.

long-time london based friends and regular collaborators ethyl & flori have been foraying between the blurred lines of house and techno with releases on labels like secretsundaze, aim and fear of flying for the last 6 years - and with a glowing reputation under their belt, 2015 saw the duo launch their own imprint e&f records. this time however, their most recent venture is a release with london label mutual friend recordings and combines the duos talent with enigmatic label owners and friends of ours london party curators our mutual friend, their solo ep on brooklyns voodoo down records earlier this year was tipped by such luminaries as levon vincent and dj october.

“i still hang around” goes the deep haus mantra from clouded house (lobster distribution) label boss lukas lyrestam. stockholm born but currently based in london he had this to say about the record… “hang around is equal parts club-tool and introspective banger, for the moment you should be leaving but you got nowhere else to go. scandinavian masters is a solid gold thumper harkening back to the glory days of jesper parnevik.” ”on the flip-side two alternative versions give the tracks new legs. common labour alumni powel (fresh off a tour with lee burridges’ all day i dream outfit) delivers a smooth house odyssey remix while x-kalay mainstay kask goes 100% techno on a remix that takes no prisoners. make sure to keep an eye on the estonian upstart as he debuts on common labour in 2017 with an ep of his very own.” hang around ep is a vinyl only release, limited to 250 copies worldwide.

stockholm-based imprint swedish brandy productions serves up a sultry four track v/a 12 inch with deep and soulful gems. first out on the a side you get the track * legs lover*. equipped with yamaha rs-7000, moog rouge and roland juno 106, moscow based house and techno purist and producer harry light gives us an uncompromising old school deep house groover with crisp pounding beats, stuttering chords and distinct catchy hooks. harry light has previous releases on labels such as artreform, pro-tez and beef to name a few. the a side ends off with the post-disco sounding killer track “overland & sea” by london based producer and dj dan westlake aka westlake72. dan’s sound borrows liberally from the history of club and dance music, mixing and matching eras to create his own contemporary sonic palette, sighting the early and mid 80 s new york post-disco producers such as darryl payne and paul simpson in particular as key influences. on the flip side soultechnic aka deejaykul delivers the deep and classy track “addicted”. rául navarette, the man behind both aliases, has been holding it down since the late 80 s, releasing music on labels like atjazz record company, z records, peng, del, basic fingers and xtrasolar records, and remixing great artists like opolopo, the rurals, gregory del piero, kenny bobien, monday michiru, monodeluxe, diviniti and many more.

this year experienced the birth of frazer campbell s deeper imprint elliot project recordings. the london based label launched back in spring with a real statement piece, composed of detailed minimal, late night seductive twinkles and a drone styled techno piece. the labels projected thought process for the future is to navigate through a varied soundscape of deeper excursions and thoughtful techno. this second ep with two originals from frazer, also includes a remix from highly respected uk musician tom ellis who increases the heat on the track light with a energetic but thoughtful techno re work.

repress alert: groovepressure is back by popular demand after a 13 year hiatus and kicking things off with re-releases and new productions from the original groovepressure artists. taking influence from original uk techouse and techbreaks, detroit techno, chicago house, electro, deep house and 90 s electronica, groovepressure is about keeping these influences fresh whilst looking towards the future. releases will include new music plus re-masters and remixes of sought-after groove pressure classics. groovepressure came from the underground and had support from legends like laurent garnier and andrew weatherall with recent support from the newer school including onur ozer and raresh. a² (aka andy panayi and alec stone) are london bred artists who originally appeared on groovepressure in 2001. their tracks will form the first comeback release on groovepressure. -no mistake- and -rebirth- are both re-mastered groovepressure classics in their own unique tech-breaks style whilst -a² groove- and -real thing- are new releases taken from the vaults and keeping the same vibe.
