luc who? marianni? this reclusive french composer paved the underground music history with a handful of mind-blowing lps but still managed to surprisingly fall under the radar. even the experts seem to have forgotten about him when there were clues all over the place! it is true luc marianni didnt belong to no family but his own, with his constant work-in-progress through the gathering of friends and the odd random musical chance meeting.

xoom recordings is a new irish label run by matthew collins. its emphasis will be to release what matthew considers to be his vision of true house music and melodic techno through his own productions and other artists that inspire him and also share a similar vision.

bring u up originally appeared on romans blackmale label in 1995 as a rumbling slice of new jersey garage complete with gospel samples and romanthony collaborator the trojan horse. it was a bit of a cult favourite with underground heads like dj deep. it wasnt until roman completely re-produced and re-sang the song in 2000 that it fully took on anthem status. out went the heavy kicks and hypnotic moods and in came james brown horn stabs and a live beat that sounded like bernard purdie had joined him for the session (the drums were actually provided by roman himself). the result was an instant club hit with everyone from pete tong to francois kevorkian that reached (a very respectable 74) in the uk national charts. on this 12 inch deetrons takes the funk vibe of romans 2000 version and toughens it up for todays dancefloors, lee webster adds a monster baseline and some serious beats. on the flip-side the original blackmale version is re-issued on vinyl for the first time as is an unreleased dj friendly edit of the 2000 version done by kevin mckay.

fachwerk boss and dubby techno don mike dehnert steps away from his usual home for a new ep on delsin entitled!umgangston. its not his first time on the label following last years fachwerk album, but it does see him cast his sonic net a little further afield.

antonio olivieri presents a sort of tightness and sheen quality in his tracks that grade him a highly skilled and polished producer. antonio helms a knack of finding inescapable mood and desire in this 3 track ep, >rudiments< the latest from steyoyoke, and arguable its most exciting output yet. the ep combines elements of repose and melodic tranquility with dance worthy tracks. as the title suggests rudimentary components provide the basis, in a way that distinguishes each track to its own dance floor setting.

it is a cold dark winter – snow is lying everywhere. simon12345 and the lazer twins are heading up north into a little wooden house in the northern parts of denmark. they will live there for the next weeks and build up a temporary studio in this secluded cottage. simon has got a handful of sketches with him. musical states of mind and conceptual games he developed over the last years. basically the idea is to develop something truly unique and powerful – although none of them knows how that will sound exactly or what will happen in particular during this time. it is not even clear who plays which instrument, who will do what…nothing is set. the only thing clear is that they have things to say, things that have been burning in them for so long now. tell me. how can (mostly) instrumental music suggest a way of life? how can you criticize without pointing at something particular? how can music transport you into place of quietness and self reflection?

following on from a pair of extended players released in 2011 (passed me by / we stay together), andy stott returns to modern love with luxury problems, an 8 track album of new material recorded over the last 12 months. five of the tracks on the album feature the voice of alison skidmore, andys onetime piano teacher whom he hadnt seen since he was a teenager back in 1996. there was no grand gesture in mind, it just sort of happened – but after almost a year of studio work the result is really quite unlike anything you will have heard from him before.

morgan zarates second release for hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. he has been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group spacek and also currently as one half of the shining, signed to xl records, but with >broken heart collector< he has made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer stevie neale on vocals. stevie warns of a guy who is the titular >broken heart collector<. her rnb vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. it is a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. there is also an instrumental included as well. the third track is >crey bey<, an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. it shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

anders wasserfall from oslo has dedicated his work as a producer to warm sounds and floating atmospheres. this lead to music that earned him releases by greta cottage workshop, soul shift music and bleepsequence. his music starts off chains of associations, blissful deepness, cloudy horizons and dimmed lights start spreading in listeners heads.

did you see that reckless kid sitting next to rebolledo at the wheel of a convertible, racing around the mexican countryside while chanting things about revenge and seduction? it is also him being the handsome gadabout restlessly rushing through the streets of barcelona, claiming that he gives nothing. and there is a possibility that maybe last weekend that very same boy bewildered your local dance grotto with hyperactive vigor. talking about monterreys daniel maloso and his fabled comeme collaborations with rebolledo (including the much acclaimed desierto ep), his colossal solo debut >hijos de jose< and his reputation for highly intense live action.

it hass been eight years since michael mayer released his debut album >touch<, but one certainly couldnt consider him lazy, what with a tightly packed schedule of dj gigs and umpteen remixes. all the more reason that kompakt is pleased to announce the sophomore album mantasy, a long-awaited, indispensable update of michael mayers production sound and an essential release for the label in 2012.

mooch recordings kicks off with the imperial street ep from quenum, the man behind cadenza and a back catalogue of hits across labels crosstown rebels, orac, soma, trapez, to name but a few. his his legendary set back in july cemented his place in the mooch hall of fame and also put him on the radar for the first ever release on the label. quenums hypnotic, groovers on this ep are just right in building up the night, riding through peak time and out the other end down at the afterparty. on remix duties we have invited tim xavier to weave his tech magic and add his signature harder, darker sound to this killer ep.

before the release of his debut album on ki, monokle throws in an ep to show us what to expect. the beautiful track >swan< pretty much describes perfectly what monokle means when he says that simple rhythms and catchy beats get him bored quickly. being influenced by the music of the british imprint warp for example, the sankt petersburg based artist has pretty much developed his own interpretation of well, what should it be called? it is monokle! he has his very own aesthetic approach to music and has a very fine hand for sublime melodies and atmospheres. on the b side he teams up with his friend and partner milinal. >swan< gets a proper retouch by daisuke tanabe, who shares monokles deep soundscapes and is just the right member of the ki family to get his hands on this ep.

the top futuristic year is 12006: next up on label-owner david vunks moustache recordings label is a collaboration between him and fellow rotterdam rogue, ben la desh who between them have combined to produce two tracks full of spaced out house, techno, electronic and disco feelings.

the man they called brokof was a blazing star in one familys dark history. a player with a wandering heart. the band called brokof follows him into the vastness and gives it a face. they draft a map with songs. singing with beautiful solemn sadness about encounters and fleeting moments of truth. hinting at rage born from the loss that occurs when one moves in life. about what one has to gain when there is nothing expected. when hope has turned to echoes and dust.
these are pop songs purged and reduced to the core.every sound stands alone to serve the song. there are no tricks. through their naked vulnerability they find their power. the structure is stark and the messages clear.

4th release by 12records, presenting the new deep88 >removing dust< ep (taken from the forthcoming >removing dust< album that will be released later on this year). main single is a2 >the vibe<, a classic 90s beat made over a real melody, where vocals parts crossover and match each others, in two differents peaks, to create a whole >vibe< flow from the start till the end of the song. a1 is a test signal experiment, where samples take a different level, a sort of meta sample, a sample into a sample… well, have a listen, its easier to understand that way. bside is 3 tracks long, not a common practice in todays ep releases. b1 >grancartridge<, a moodymann house style raw song, b2 is even more raw sampling style, meanwhile b3 is a dreamy vocal house tune more common to deep88s style. the result is a mature ep, that ntroduces the 2nd deep88 album, always on 12records, and that will bring him into that >serious< realm of making house that is seen in some elite today (funny isn’t it… at the end it is just about music and we all have ears… maybe)... btw less marketing on our head, this 12inch wont be a coloured or hand written limited release, just the good old classic black one (yes it sounds better folks) and no limited copies… when is close to finish we will repress as usual.

trevino aka marcus intalex has been wowing all and sundry with his tight detroit / chicago / whoknoswhere take on uk bass music. his early tracks like >chip< on martyns 3024 and >derelict< on naked lunch, showed tough, melodic, techno and electro were back on the menu, but filtered thru the mind and ears of a man who was been releasing fresh uk music since 1994. appleblim was amongst the first to hear and start playing trevino’s new cuts, and has seen him go from strength to strength.
