of course, there is a story behind every release, and this ligovskoi debut on dement3d goes back to one of their first live performances in paris, back in 2011, organized by our cousin label silicate : a group of artists - including dscrd - were invited to recompose an ambient soundtrack on the movie outland by peter hyams. ligovskois live performance was absolute magic, and their intense and powerful sound signature - with moving infra-thin melodies, ethereal noises, and deep bass foundations - was already sounding perfect.

nelistening back, ‘interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘skylax’. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason’s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, ‘the love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘old dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, ‘rawkicks 2’ shows jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘cut b’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, ‘definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of ‘skylax’, ‘john blue’ takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. ‘last night’ is a track more reminiscent of jason’s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘mastercuts’ and ‘lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘lost cuts’ records, with ‘lovedits 7’ and ‘mastercut 5’ respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘bb’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason’s debut album ‘313.4.ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘skylax’ on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

welcoming trikk to truesoul, he brings the quality we have come to expect from both label and artist. his ep starts with deeper point, a track that encompasses heavy techno sounds to create a monster of a track. straight circles (beat mix) repeats and detunes a vocal to engrain it into the memory before prominent highs keep this track moving. the final track bliss drive is different to the rest of the ep and has more of a garage feel to it the funky drums, earth shattering bass line and digital bleeps will knock you sideways!

over the course of four eps for numbers and creation of his own label ‘total fantasy’, deadboy has charted his own path far beyond the deep black space of mediocrity with previous records ‘if u want me’, ‘here’ & ‘blaquewerk’. on ‘return’ deadboy journeys further into uncharted territories, taking his music to the darkest recesses of disco and extraterrestrial synth-werk. the opening track ‘return’ finds the london-based producer taking cues from the likes of tangerine dream and klaus schulze with a gentle ambient opener that unwraps to reveal a beautiful and moving track. ‘des niles’ is a shimmering disco track built around an 80s boogie bassline, plus those killer deadboy vocal chop-ups that take us even deeper into the producers nighttime world. samples are worked to within an inch of their life on the floor-ready ‘yhvh’, whilst punchy bass and synth stabs take care of the rest. things then move swiftly on to ‘life code’, with the deadboy once again notching the tempo down and letting the track’s wistful oriental melodies ride out into the dark.

bushwick17 is a project by costanza francavilla and alex infascelli. it is a 17 minutes improvisation session, recorded in bushwick on a summer afternoon - with no additional edits, mixing or efx. the idea is based on both artists s obsession with the number 17: the concept was to freely capture 17 minutes of their day together, without any thought before the act or any extra sound manipulation after the act. costanza placed 2 mics on the floor in the middle of the room - facing the wall - and played synthesizers while merging herself with dreamlike vocals into ambient floating textures. alex turned on a fan that was abandoned in the studio, placed the electric guitar in front of it, creating ethereal drones, and moving from guitars atmospheres to abruptly exploding yet sultry drums patterns. the result is an hypnotic sonic journey into an indefinite condition of space and time.

r&s sister label apollo are very proud to announce a four-track ep from james leyland kirby. mastermind behind arch sonic provocateurs v/vm as well as the more contemplative the caretaker and the stranger, kirby has been responsible for some of the most unique, subversive and moving electronic music of the past two decades. following a quiet 2012 and 2013, the ep marks both his apollo debut and his first release since 2011 under the leyland kirby alias - an outlet for his most personal and reflective work.

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

for over 12 months thomas feriero aka avatism, our friend and label partner, has been staying at home and working on his album. he moved to berlin to work on it and now sadly (for us) yet (gladly) for him he is moving back to milan. poof! just like that. so what did this year entail exactly? well for some of us not much. we got to see him in his studio comfy pants a couple of times (he wears slippers) we heard his studio woes, ate pasta with him, drank beers and of course got to hear his album at every juncture. while this self-imposed exile may have been a little worrisome the result is fortunately spectacular. adamant is a glimpse into how a city shapes a life and how intrinsically life then shapes music.

japan based producer have developed amazing detroit style electro with this release. resist is defiantly a statement of funky electro. the track combines ghetto electro and funky grooves with futuristic cosmic feel. this track takes you on a eletro ride that is defiantly building up with vocoder vocals. resist gives the dance floor body bounce and will make the jit dancer hype on the floor. dj sting ray does a superb remix on this project. his approach with his futuristic electro give the track his signature sound that takes the track deep into sonic phases. the tracks bridge over to a synergy of electro and sonic soul with the signature electro detroit sound. mixworks cosmic gas mix has a direct techno mix that will ensure speaker dancers to groove to this mix. the remix has strong snares and proper base line that takes you on a direct techno sound experiment. the track has a full base drum that you can feel and groove too with proper cosmic bread downs and pickups. the b2 track express constant sonic electro. the vocoder vocals carry the track to be a bangin electrotec status. the track has clean hi-hats that steps the beat into a vibe that will keep you moving.
