what is footwork house jam (fw)? first of all it is a long-running club night in moscow, russia, dedicated to real house music and house dance culture. started in 2010 as a small project, influenced by sound and visual esthetics of 90 s house parties in new york and chicago, fw soon has become the biggest creative community of dancers in russia, gaining strong local following and international reputation. it is the birthplace and home for leading moscow dance crews. various artists ep -footwork house jam #1- is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous moscow-based club night in particular. the idea behind this compilation is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on, blurring the boarders and eliminating the prejudices of the present times.

florian meindl kick starts 2017 with a special four-track vinyl only release �colorful cage�. released on his own imprint flash recordings, the title track is taken from his forthcoming album �time illusion�. there is an exclusive vinyl edit of florian�s previously released foreboding techno track �nix charon� and completing the ep are two further unique tracks �controlled pressure� and �wild sequence 3�. as a dj, live performer, studio producer and sound designer, florian has over the years established an impressive producing base for himself in his berlin based riverside studio complex with an exciting hardware set up including modular systems, an analog mixing desk as well as classic machines like roland 909. in anticipation for the lp release in early april, florian has prepared a unique live set featuring a modular system, the korg minilogue, effect boxes and a 909 drum machine which were used in the creation of the album which he will be touring throughout 2017.

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

hot on the heels of system of survivals latest album and exclusively on vinyl comes the d-votion ep to get physical music. the influential house duo present cuts from the album, d-votion and no time to waste,d-votion is laid out first a deep and groovy dancefloor track with low end grit and a funky swing it its step. a collaboration with salvatore stallone the track is very moving and nearly impossible to resist. no time to waste plays a hypnotically rhythmic synth over a steamy stage of sweaty percussion. next we turn to the brand new vinyl-exclusive acid house number phantom power for a heavy dose of midnight action. with a very technoid feel, the acids presence suspensefully builds a tension throughout while the bassline chugs the track further. next surfbit joins to present searching for a wave, another track featured on the album. this one shines more sun with warm synths, soft vocals and gentle melodies. the collaboration ends the ep on a warm note, a special sound for a special dancefloor moment.

following their much-acclaimed surprise debut album vermont from 2014, motor city drum ensembles danilo plessow and innervisions marcus worgull reunite for more synth daydreaming on the suitably titled ii. the new outing continues where the first full-length left off, strolling further down the luminous and undulating path that the duo turned into, influenced in equal measures by kosmische, krautrock, minimal wave and synth soundtracks.

over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. �a learning curve� is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g�s mesmerising �navigate� and k15�s introspective �the guilt within�, two very individual tracks in their own rights. �navigate� is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, �the guilt within� takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to �navigate�. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

side a starts with aster ix, a track with simple percussion and a hard, yet smooth, bassline. the continuous pad and the occasionally sparky chords make aster ix the perfect combination for an 8-minute track designed to keep you up. this 12-minute vinyl flaunts on the same side twisted , which takes the darker side of the producer one step further. the dark track, twisted , boldly surprises you with the trippy sequences of its repetitive vocals. side b is represented by the most complex track of the ep: organik -- a track playing with a natural groove as well as acoustic-based elements. it s a 15-minute journey with spacey and atmospheric-drone sounds that takes you far away while listening.

nice price deal !!! based on an old sketch for a track that was lost for 20 years and then suddenly resurfaced on an old dat tape when he moved his studio, latest offering from per martinsen aka mental overdrive takes us into a universe where big pianos and bright sunshine is the order of the day. to make things even more summery and relaxed he teamed up with fellow norwegian disco connoisseur rune lindbaek for a joint remix, and while in the studio they had a swift visit from chanteuse anneli drecker - recently known for her position as front vocalist for röyksopp - who added her soothing voice to the mix to transport you even further into balearic bliss. finally this release also introduces the bright new talent of boska, delivering his more uptempo remix duties to complete this essential package to kick off the summer season.

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

brazillian-born daniela caldellas returns to hotflush recordings with misantropicalia, a three track ep, with each one showing different facets of her influences, further enriching her identity as terr. picking up where last aprils burn the past ep left off, terr continues to develop what is becoming her retro-futurist signature. the unmistakable footprint of electro, as well as a palpable nostalgia for the early 80s, is present throughout. the title track perhaps even betrays a whiff of italo or hi-nrg with its moroder-esque bass and silky guitar licks, before moving into pure body-popping, linoleum dancefloor territory on the b-side. outrun is an invitation to do the robot worm best heard on a portable ghetto blaster, while dont look around rounds off the 12inch in galvanizing style with hints of electroclash in fractured, fleeting vocals and beats of the fat variety. misantropicalia shows terr with her influences on her sleeve, and her gaze fixed firmly forwards

a collaboration with deniz kurtel, the ep combines the best of the pairs shared ear for darkly atmospheric late night melodies. title track * here comes the rain* is a highly-anticipated release, after having appeared in a number of mixes from guy. muted piano chords build up to a layers of echoing synths and subtle vocal samples for an evocative lead track. meanwhile, b-side * an army of stalkers*, as its name suggests, is a slightly faster-paced affair with twinkling arpeggios and a subtle rolling bassline. guy gerber and deniz kurtel have previously worked together, with guy remixing her 2011 release * the l word*. they ve also performed alongside each other at a number of events, including guys first ibiza residency the wisdom of the glove. the ep is guys fifth release on the rumors label, which he launched back in 2014. it follows an incredible year for the dj and producer. 2016 saw the rumors event series go from strength to strength, with the ibiza residency gaining a glowing reputation and expanding internationally, taking in parties across europe and the us. following a critically acclaimed first solo ep on the label, * secret encounters*, guy went on to sell out londons iconic koko camden with the promise of an all night set. the release of * here comes the rain* sets the tone for further successes in 2017.

plant43 aka emile facey returns to cpu with his second ep for the sheffield imprint, and brings more of his ultra-refined electro to the table. surgical pads, robotic x0x beats and melodic basslines fuse the tracks into faceys signature science-lab machine funk. facey has been very busy since his last outing on cpu back in 2013, with an lp on shipwrec, and ep s on semantica, ac records and frustrated funk. he is showing no sign of slowing down and weightless in the void pushes his sound even further into the future

with jealous god, eerie and l.i.e.s on his c.v. they don t come much more approved that domenico crisci, but few would be prepared for the onslaught that leaps out of this first release on summa cum laude. the violinist champions distortion as a weapon, running everything through a fuzz pedal in a most unrelenting of fashions. its certainly not for the feint-hearted, and all the more powerful with it. meanwhile return would sound brutal in any other context were it not for what came before, all slamming, grubby drums and the noises that splay off them. blacklord them manages to push the vibe further back into the red with a searing throwdown to finish the ep off in a masterful display of intensity.

having lurked around murky corners of the grubby industrial techno realm for the past year or so, pavel milyakov builds on his rapidly swelling discography with this transmission for public system. it s the second release on the label following a strong opening salvo from dj spider and greypeople, and this 12- offers up further forthright club-wreckers that balance taut functionality with production flair. opening cut -strainn- delivers bludgeoning electro from the netherworld, which ekman then dutifully reworks with an added eerie tension. there are edgy arpeggios aplenty on -trance t- and warmer tones in -augusts 13-, rounding out an essential slab of serious techno tackle.

two great previously unreleased vocals from norris reid! the deep well of the channel 1 lost & found series goes further, with some awesome previously unreleased early 80s tracks from norris reid. since unfortunately there was no dub available for the killer frustration, digikiller has included another cut on the same great rhythm by wayne smith, lifted from his showdown lp.

illusory house and techno from new york native image man, following up a release on crucial newcomer label sunal/perabob with another four-track 12� of windy, paradoxical tracks built from samples and drum machine. �glance� shifts further into a weirded out but druggily decadent realm where he�s found looping the reflections of disco, soul and ancient pop samples into his own spaced and primitive euphorias, starting out with the slowmo downbeat of �more� before the more apprehensive rhythms of �else� end up filtering out into a pool of a reverberant samples that echoes out the second half. from the image man himself: �we trust in the sound we take for granted�the music wouldn t lead us astray, would it? emotions can lead us astray, the wanting to feel, the wishing of forever lasting, the pleading for change, the expectation of ecstasy. just a quick glance in the mirror.�
