purism welcomes romanian minimal house upstart mihai popescu to the table, following the promising producer s run of hotly tipped singles on his own soulsity label. the groove is crisp and infectious on opening cut -do watcha feeel,- which makes great use of a looped up melodic phrase and choice vocal snippets for a quintessential house throwdown. -mixed moods- is no less floor-ready, but its delicate, shimmering keys add a seductive quality that s impossible to resist. -midnight insp- takes a heads-down, tracky approach on its run in, but by the latter half opens up to reveal a gorgeous, swirling bath of chords. -aritmethixx- provides contrast for the ep s closer, keeping the beat stripped back and using haunting flecks of sonic decoration that wouldn t sound out of place on a horror inc track
mihai popescu s release follows metereze s lineage of house infused grooves, delivering feelings with each of the 4 tracks that shape mtrz010.1 and not any kind of feelings but those that can change the dancefloor collective state of mind in a blink of an eye.
2018 repress of the debut full length lp from spencer doran and ryan carlile s visible cloaks project. initially recorded in 2013 and issued on cassette by sun ark in 2014 (as cloaks), this first offering uses conceptual processes to weave many of the same threads as their later work, synthetic fm tones, tuned mallet percussion, and electronically modulated voice, all arranged in a gossamer web, spun with neon electronics. on this release the duo set off on the sonic journey they are still on today, refracting their influences through east-west feedback loops, augmenting traditions with technology. remastered 45rpm dmm version with additional surprises!
mihai popescu kicks off a new label, steppin motion records, with two of his own brilliant tracks. the romanian artist has been a key part of the scene since 2012, releasing on labels like soulsity, rora and bass culture. he has a slick electronic sound that is here for all to here on these two new cuts.
steppin motion is a record label based in paris and managed by swoop. it aims to promote music as an art, as something beautiful that gets your body and soul in motion. this first ep is in two parts, showcasing both sides of the label: the first part is the most dance oriented, whereas the second part will be more soul / beauty oriented. the amazing artwork comes from vesod, who is an italian street-artist painter from turin.
selfsuficient is first and is ten minutes of slippery house music with lovely chords and melodies all making for a warm and infectious groove. it is colourful, loose and rhythmic stuff that oozes a futuristic sense of soul. neasteptat is deeper, with rubbery drums and woodpecker like sounds all weaving round each other to cast a spell on those who hear it.
these are two terrific tracks that connoisseurs of minimal house are going to lap up.
it has now been 6 years that we have launched rora to share our passion and vision of music. we are really happy to celebrate our 15th release, and what a better artist than mp to sign it! year after year, mihai popescu has established his unique style, and he is to us one of the most talented romanian producer. five years after rora002, soulsity s label boss is back with a massive ep and a very special artwork of his own. we hope you will like it as much as we do! rora
played by ricardo villalobos - its time for the next release on long-running paris label bass culture and owner d julz has invited a crack team of talented individuals to deliver the magic to this latest instalment in the label s release schedule. this extra special remix package features contributions from the legendary dj skull, along with sebo k, henrik bergqvist and romanian mp. the bossman s own 2015 ep houdini is the subject of this exquisite bunch of reworks, giving the whole release a fresh lick of paint from a group of artists handpicked by d julz to get to work on his productions. the title track houdini is first in line, with the mighty dj skull on remix duty. the chi-town legend has been a favourite of d julz since the early nineties when he was releasing on labels such as djax-up-beats. the funk-imbued workout he creates from the original production is superb and a testament to someone who has been involved in music for three decades and still going strong. keeping dj skulls remix company on the a-side is sebo k with his take on serendipity. following on from his outstanding ep brock wild, sebo returns to bass culture with another taught dance floor cut, full of swing and groove, pushed along with a strong, insistent energy. on the flipside the deep sultry flavours continue to bubble up. two more dynamic artists bring their unique touch to bass culture and the first is the romanian wonderkid mp (mihai popescu), who has previously released on the sub-label bass culture limited. his reinterpretation of serendipity is deep, nuanced and quirky with a simmering atmosphere throughout.last but certainly not least is the swedish maestro henrik bergqvist. waiting 4 visa gets a kick in its step, with mysterious cosmic fx layered over a mesmerising bassline and a collection of bleeps and chirps that really bring the remix to life. and there it is, four superb new mixes of three great tracks... enjoy!
house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.

brand new, london-based imprint, othertones, launches with a stellar three track release from dan farserelli and romanian artist mp, entitled fat cap and backed with a baby ford remix. the labels aim is pretty simple, tipping its focus towards releasing quality underground electronic music across the board from associates in the industry, while also welcoming established artists respected by the label-heads. here its inaugural release embraces a low-slung, stripped-back house aesthetic, with raw, gritty sounds and a profound depth instilled in the productions. baby ford adds a further weight to package with a dubbed-out ethereal interpretation of the title track. this is intelligent listening and a great indication whats to come, with this brand new imprint packing a punch from the very off. dj support: dice / tini / spencer parker / mr g / raresh / d julz / brothers vibe and more

hot on the heels of in.totos inaugural release late last year, label owner b.traits comes out of the blocks with another brace of tracks on the single basic scenario/breathe out. breathe out displays a definitive love of classic techno tropes basement room bouncing beats and shuffling, bristling hats delivered with urgency and a slickness that has become a hallmark of her productions over the years. chopped up vocals are pressed through the effects mangler, puncturing this driving techno cut laced with essential 909 rides and flanged percussion. on the flip, the rubbery and pounding drums of basic scenario is just as strong the dense and reverberating beats providing the perfect vibes for a berghain or tresor sweat soaked session, as rising synths and frenzied hand claps produce a real element of drama, ramped up with b.traits own vocal monologue, suitably twisted by fx to polish off a well rounded and energetic club cut. with her first in.toto release selling out of its vinyl run within one day of going on sale, things are looking very promising for the bbc radio 1 djs label, set up to offer a platform, not only for her own music, but for like minded producers and artists she has admired and promoted on her show and in the clubs. 2017 looks set to be a busy year for the label, so watch this space.
released in 1981 and seamlessly blending passion, sleaze and synths, this was the stunning debut album by the influential duo soft cell. the albumãs critical and commercial success was helped by the worldwide success of its lead single single µtainted loveã, a cover version of a soul song by gloria jones, which topped charts worldwide. the album produced two more wonderful top five singles in the uk in the shape of µbedsitterã and µsay hello, wave goodbyeã. meanwhile the infamous µsex dwarfã caused something of a national furore. bravo, soft cell!
