almost exactly a year after his first ep on byrd out (the kiyadub ep), the legendary andrew weatherall returns with new material for a second release. andrew invited a mate round to his studio to try out a les paul his friend was looking to buy. as it turns out, his mate was ride s (and oasis ) guitarist andy bell. anyway, andrew suggested he test the guitar out over a track he was working on, and ‘making friends with the invader’ is the resulting track, which andrew paired with the ep’s title track ‘blue bullet’. both tracks plough the trippy, cosmic dub furrow, and come in at a weighty 8 and 9 minutes plus. 200 cassettes. grab them while you can! mastered by noel summerville. artwork by g.s-l studio

following fine scalpel-focused outings from ltj and les inferno, many of many aliases stefano de gama returns to samosa with a trio of subtly tooled-up disco edits. a-side -son of slave- sees him join together bits of soulful disco-era classics -slide- and -son of slide- to form a tasty new whole. while heavily compressed and noticeably chunkier than either of the original tracks, de gama s version is loose enough to please those who think edits should merely be dj-friendly re-arrangements. turn to the flipside for the lolloping, low-slung afro-funk goodness of -1972- and the throbbing peak-time disco celebration of filter-sporting closer -star buk-. this too boasts booming drums and bass, but also enough musical looseness to avoid the usual disco-house pitfalls.

warsaw based duo private press join rekids special projects this july with four deep techno cuts entitled ‘zero sum ep’. hailing from poland, adam brocki and jan wóycicki make up private press – a project that’s released sought after cuts on labels like technosoul and indigo aera. the duo is also known by the name raw feelings, however many will be familiar with brocki’s newborn jr. alias, which has dropped releases on rhythm section, echovolt, dopeness galore and les yeux orange. ‘miracle man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before ‘becomes the prime’ opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. on the flip side ‘tooms’ delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as ‘clan’ offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

for real avid fans of the cluster/eno axis, this is going to be an essential purchase! - after the release of the second longplayer -deluxe- in august 1975 harmonia went back to touring the rest of the year until roedelius, moebius and rother ended their collaboration in summer 1976. all three members started solo projects, but rejoined as harmonia in september 1976 for a short time when brian eno visited them in forst, germany for eleven days, living and recording with harmonia, before eno went on to work with david bowie. the material from -tracks and traces- is from this eleven days, and was not released until 1997 because the tapes were long considered lost - rykodisc and sony s s3 label did release nine tracks on cd only. here s the expanded re-issue for grönland records from 2009 with an excluisve new artwork for the first time on 2lp-vinyl-set!

the first release is an ep with three driving tracks. the first track by discotheque fantastique -carnaval- has a percussive beat, hypnotic bassline, solid funk breaks with layers of tension. the second track by herr 2003 s -bourdonnement de l amour- is an amazing rework of a classic 70 s psychedelic rock tune with a groovy bass line, punchy female vocals and a shimmering arpeggiator synth. on the b side, club bizarre delivers an incredible extended version of a classic french cut from the 80 s.

(a nod to supertramp s crisis? what crisis?) is one of those albums. its silken-smooth production, irresistible grooves, funk-tinged guitars, lush soundscapes and general glowing presence could easily lead one to believe that have dug up a lost disco gem from the 1970s. however, behind the disco-pop gleam lies eerie dystopian sci-fi ruminations of a futuristic bent and tones that can often feel as french as they do asian or african. this sort of cross-continental exploration is an expansion on bvo s previous two eps, the man behind the organisation, adrien durand, says. -i tried to continue the musical expedition between dystopian science-fiction haunted africa - plus haitian vaudou on -soleil dieu- - and futuristic asia. addressing, in a double entendre manner, some of the political issues that i am sensitive to.- in fact the jungle in question in the album s title is a metaphorical one and one that creates a vast series of environments for durand to explore such subjects as world trade, utopian ideals and themes of idols, as well as of time and communication. however, one will need to speak french to decipher such explorations, as well as shake off the natural impulse to move with every glorious beat on its 13 tracks, of which are moved along by maud nadal and agathe bonitzer s golden vocals.
