wir brauchen keine neuen techniken. jeder hat eine technik. was wir brauchen, sind neue sounds. und es ist nicht einfach, neue sounds zu finden.- aber genau dieser aufgabe verschrieb sich richard pinhas. heute kennt man den franzosen nicht nur in seinem heimatland als etablierten space-rock-elektronik-musiker. doch 1977 war -rhizosphere- sein erstes soloalbum. zuvor hatte er schon fünf alben mit seinem wegweisenden bandprojekt heldon veröffentlicht. befreit von jeglicher gruppendynamik schickte er sich auf -rhizosphere- mit hilfe seines kurz zuvor erworbenen moog-modular-systems dazu an, in neue klangwelten vorzustoßen. auf vier der fünf tracks sind der 25-jährige pinhas und sein synthesizer ganz allein zu hören. wir erleben dabei eine verschmelzung von mensch und maschine, die sich immer mehr zu einer ausgedehnten, abenteuerlichen reise in unbekannte gefilde entwickelt. pinhas’ vereinfachter ansatz brachte eine ganze galaxie an sounds und ideen hervor. jeder track beherbergt ein eigenes akustisches und emotionales mini-universum. die bandbreite der stimmungen ist kaum zu fassen. außer pinhas war nur noch der schlagzeuger françois auger beteiligt. er begleitet pinhas auf dem 18-minütigen titeltrack, der sich anfühlt wie ein raketenflug zum mond.

following releases by label boss paul ritch and portuguese producer cardao, quartz rec welcomes a new addition to its roster, dj sodeyama, with >i wanna dance< ep. dj, producer, label owner & founder of arpa records, yoshifumi sodeyama started djing in the early 90s in his native tokyo. his well crafted productions have been released on japanese and international labels, including a recent appearance on nina kravitzs trip compilation >i have a question<. on this ep, from the building tension of the opening track, to the beautiful acid sounds of the last, dj sodeyama manages to create great atmospheres using repetitive patterns with drifting sounds that will surely make the dancers mind wander.

bass great marcus miller brings the influence of modern urban music to his trademark sound on his highly-anticipated, genre-defying new album “laid black”, which will be released on blue note records.

carlton doom has existed only in the shadows of a 27 year old’s delphian consciousness, until now. necrodancer ep emerges as deep sea frequency’s fourth and most audacious offering, a four track package of mutated breaks and scuzzy electro due 5th october 2018. charged forward by a riotous bass line, the title track brings together crystalline high end amidst dizzying drums. ‘pipepipepipe’ is a maximal dose of big room energy followed by ‘bad batch’, a messed up trip of broken beats and swollen bass. closing off the ep, choppy breaks take the lead on ‘rot’.

nekhsa is a mysterious producer with a long running history of minimal and electro greatness running through his veins. a firm believer in the analog and a fluid method of production by jamming with a host of machines. second release with spinning plates following sp003 which feat. 2 remixes from dj spider. said to produce for a host of great labels under a host of alias its rare not to hear a track from this artist on a night out in the london scene. charm snake is a new comer who focuses on the trip. his first release with spinning plates is challenging at 12min plus but once locked in you wish lasted a week.

three years incubation, visionquest compadre antonio thagma returns to follow up his evergreen ‘leather soul’ ep. taking off where his molten constructions left us in 2015, it’s another kinetic experience where the groove is full, and only, focus… and the one and only ricardo villalobos is on hand for a genuinely beautiful remix. ‘sferikum’ instantly locks you in: upbeat with a subtle strut and a maze of psychedelic textures, this one is all about the rolling subs that underpin every element, bringing everything together with fluid motion. it’s backed by the broken electroid charm of ‘everything i wanted’. spacious, pensive and laced with an array of dizzying details from sly acid sinews to crafty drum variations by way of a sudden heart-stopping breakdown. truly, this lives up to its name. complementing these two exceptional originals, and celebrating antonio’s return to visionquest at the highest level possible, villalobos has been recruited for remix duties. a key staple of his sets this summer, it’s a singular 13 minute trip rich in subversion, twists, glitches and surprises. but, as always, the groove is the full, and only, focus. welcome back antonio…

hamburg based producer vincent beckmann will release his debut ep under the name of “han duo” on his self-run label “enbeezee”. the ep evolved at a trip to rio de janeiro, where he was introduced to old samba records. vincent being a jazz trained drummer tried to incorporate those brazilian percussion into his music, which lead to “phil in rio” right after the trip.

rassvet records is back with a bangin ep made by mirabella karianova aka shadowax who is famous by her outstanding appearance on nina kravizs trip label. here she delivers a brilliant cover version of a song by a russian old school hip-hop band. nasty lyrics about russian 90s reality performed with her subtle voice sounds really obscure and at the same time very fresh. this ep is also featuring a powerful dancefloor remix by rassvet records head buttechno, longer b-side version and acapella.

berlin based techno titan frank muller adopts his beroshima alias for a new four track ep that is already been hailed by the likes of marcel dettman and laurent garnier. first emerging in the nineties, muller has since become a techno great who has played from asia to south america and beyond. he’s had plenty of underground hits on the likes of cocoon and soma, and held some key residencies over the years. always one to command your attention with his multi layered grooves, this ep features an old juan atkins sample “buy some shit from detroit” that has been part of beroshima’s live sets for years. excellent opener ‘encounter’ reflects a recent idea jeff mills and muller had to produce tracks together for a not yet produced sci-fi movie. it is an eight-minute astral techno trip with smooth, driving drums and plenty of intergalactic synth lines. ‘the passion of lovers’ transfers the organic beroshima style into 2018 and shows off frank’s passion for spaced out electronica. it’s a brilliantly bumping cut with lithe synths and melodies adding that soul and colour as it races through the galaxies. the iconic ‘buy some’ with the atkins sample then surges into the future with icy hi hats dancing over rubbery drums. the warped synths take the lead and bring a real sense of off kilter energy to this most timeless bit of techno. last of all is the fantastic space mix of ‘encounter’ which is dreamy and cinematic with exquisite keys and pads colouring in a huge night sky as the drums drive things along. this is an archetypal techno ep filled with cosmic colours and serene emotions.

man band delivers its first various release with a stunning downtempo opener by the enigmatic dj sacom and an ever mind-bending trip by forest drive west, with his second hypnotic remix of elise. more newcomers on the flip include bristol based patrick flint with a celestial workout of swirling percussions, and a massive, dub inspired cut by paris local figure hanah.

mop mop is the brainchild of andrea benini, musician, producer, dj who has been active for more than ten years exploring a large variety of musical genres, from club to jazz music. „kiss of kali“ is the name of his second album - originally released in 2008 only on cd, now available on vinyl for the first time.

as far as i know is the new project by electronic music veteran eduardo de la calle. under this new moniker, eduardo is exploring the roots of detroit electro whilst sticking to his signature sound of trippy melodies and rhythms, which we were able to experience through so many quality releases over the last decades. this first ep by as far as i know, which also includes a collaboration with nathan surreal on b2 (fact speak itself), takes us on a trip back to the future and deep into the realm of sci-fi related electro, idm, and techno. pressed on 180g hand-stamped quality wax.

following mervs ep, taped artifact now presents a new outing by the label co-founder kevin arnemann. with three original cuts, showcasing the labels characteristic dub-influenced techno sound, the ep is complemented with two remixes by jonas kopp. arnemanns ‘trash polka ep kicks off with saturated 808-grooves, driven by steady dub-chords and hard hitting claps. next, the original track sees a special dub influenced treatment by jonas kopp. the in spain residing argentinian delivers a stripped down, yet high energized techno version. as a digital exclusive, kopp prepares a second interpretation, following the tradition of a classic rooted dub sound. on the flipside, ‘revertigo sees arnemann utilise a rumbling break beat, topped with icy rides, blissful dub chords and cinematic pads, taking you on an energetic trip. ‘ideology is bringing the ep to a closing. with heavily processed chords and hard hitting drums, kevin arnemann creates a suspense that leave you wanting for more.

long time scene stalwart darren price is stepping out on brand new label, kilsha music, with a fantastic ep of monster house tracks arriving. opener charm offensive is a fantastic ten-minute trip into loose limbed techno. drums, bass and percussion all wrap and weave around each other and melt your mind in the process. a rasping lead synth eventually becomes the focal point as background chords bring real soul. the brilliantly bristling everybody jack (uw live maschine mix) is a full fat track with busy textured synths, sci-fi effects and old school jack vocals that will really work the dance floor into a lather. its dynamic and ever evolving, with plenty of tense peaks and troughs throughout to keep the floor on its toes. the final vinyl track is this is house music, a deeper cut with warm, warbling bass and a muted acid line spraying about the mix. it slowly builds the pressure in heady fashion and is one to really hypnotise.

following hivers excellent ep, let recordings again welcomes american dj and producer jon hester to their imprint. currently based in berlin but with previous spells in chicago and minneapolis, he returns to the label for a second ep following 2017s communication ep, and other outings on the likes of rekids and dystopian. his adventurous drum programming and high speed techno style kicks things off with radiance, a manically melodic track that takes you on an energetic trip. impermanence is a deeper, more cinematic piece that features rueful pads but still a driving drum line, then stratospheric has huge, hammering kick drums and squelchy synth sounds as well as dancing keys that bring warmth, groove, and soul. last of all, this high class excursion is completed with horizon, delivering barreling drum patterns and edgy pads that trap you in suspense as it races on. all four tracks deliver a high impact techno sound that very much looks to the future.

this project was inspired by my trip to home to my root land. cape verde island, after 54 years of being on this earth, music and fans of my music actually brought me home.
