der pop-avantgardist john maus präsentiert sein viertes studioalbum “screen memories”! nach dem erscheinen seines aufsehenerregenden albums “we must become the pitiless censors of ourselves” (2011) ging maus auf ausgiebige tour, veröffentlichte ein jahr später “a collection of rarities and previously unreleased material” und verschwand dann von der bildfläche, um sich seiner akademischen ausbildung zu widmen. nachdem er diese mit dem doktortitel in politischer philosophie abschloss, widmete er sich dem bauen von modularen synthesizern und eigenen panels. gleichzeitig komplettierte er “screen memories” in völliger eigenregie in seinem abgeschiedenen zuhause, der so genannten funny farm in minnesota. der erste vorgeschmack des resultates war ende august mit dem album-opener “the combine” zu hören. darin singt maus mit sonorer stimme und im charmant-elektronischen barock-soundkleid: “it’s going to dust us all to nothing, man. i see the combine coming.”

lsd is an ongoing musical collaboration between longtime electronic music innovators luke slater, steve bicknell and david sumner focusing on psychedelic aspects of techno while emphasizing the cross-pollination of each members style and rhythmic sensibility. personal ties between the three can be traced back across continents and developments in dance music, with steve first inviting luke to play his legendary lost party series in london in the early 90s, resulting in mutual remixes for pioneering techno imprints cosmic records and nova mute. almost a decade later in the year 2000, dave, a native new yorker, befriended steve after inviting him to play limelight in manhattan. over the years, dave and luke would also have numerous encounters, first forming a musical bond in 2009, with dave later co-producing lukes early l.b. dub corp material (roller, 2013).

as the head of grounded theory and manhigh, henning baer has since 2009 presented his downcast, experimental interpretation of modern electronic music to wide critical acclaim, establishing his forceful presence on berlin’s scene with immaculate curatorial skills and equally imposing dj abilities. his discography so far, concentrated on adam x’s legendary sonic groove imprint and his own k209 and manhigh imprints, amongst others, keeps step with his formidable reputation and wide-ranging tastes, moving across the spectrum of hard-edged, aggressively modern techno. with ‘shatterproof’, his long-germinating debut album for manhigh, he offers for the first time his unified vision in extended format, a varied exploration into the outer limits of the genre. at its centre a work of dark minimalism, he sets and maintains the pensive tone on ambient pieces like ‘angel dust’, ‘all over’, and ‘mil-std 461’, which foreground the exploratory electronics that maintain their presence throughout. the corroded textures of the sounds, enveloped in decaying reverb, bring life to pieces like ‘never ending’ or ‘bliss’, which sit between rhythmic interludes and the stricter dancefloor material found on the remainder of the album. once he shifts into techno, he does it unremittingly, from the uptempo fury of ‘code buster’ and ‘burning chrome’, whose starkness only heighten the tension, to denser pieces like ‘drama sky’ or closer ‘vermillion red’, where the cavernous impacts of drum hits punch holes through beds of seesawing synthesizers. shatterproof like its title suggests, henning baer’s first album unifies and strengthens the work of an artist whose legacy is already assured.

new york native caiazzo releases the devotion on his and p.leone s e-missions imprint featuring three dusky techno tracks and a remix from white material co-founder young male. much like p.leone, caiazzo s debut release (entitled the dredge ) landed on work them records, spencer parker s label that s featured names such as radio slave, rodhad, dj richard and ryan elliot. launching e-missions earlier this year, the pair continue their high quality output by following up two releases from p.leone with three uncompromising original cuts from caiazzo himself. rolling percussion drives 917 (sportmixxx) whilst intoxicating drones operate throughout, making way for lifeform with its layers of thick synthesised sounds that build on top of a relentless drum composition with subtle but effective transitions. godbody offers a stripped back approach to techno with an intricate percussive composition that allows a deep low-end and a hypnotic perc to take control. finally, white material label boss young male provides his take on godbody where bass hits combine with haunting atmospheres and warped rhythms, closing the release with style.

no matter where the winds may blow, what storms may come or what pirates will do, the transatlantyk ship is still sailing. navigated for the last three years by zambon out of berlin, ultimately avoiding the shallow waters of the generic and constantly patrolling the seas in search of exciting sounds. after all that sailing the label just had to replenish its ranks with some fresh faces - those still capable of voyaging into the unknown. joining the crew is a young gun tamten, who by day serves as a vinyl pusher in warsaw s finest side one record store. what he does by night is not the matter of this short text, but we are sure he does a lot of it. hence his love for all things distant - from subaquatic pads and floating riffs, to new-age-y siren voices, otherworldly effects and percussion drenched in reverb. there is a lot of similarly distant, sun-bleached material on this five tracker, full of a druggy and hippy balearic feel. beautiful ambient jam przebudzenie is the stand out track, but znaki czasu is equally as good with its simple, yet memorable melody, reminding of dawns and sunsets on some god forsaken beach. sultry deepness of nieznajoma is followed by enchanting digital exotica of wyrocznia and wavey trip-hop cut po burzy . overall its one of the strongest eps that transatlantyk managed to co-opt into its growing catalogue. definitely one for the dreamers.

woke is tigas third release so far in 2017, and was recorded at montreals lost star studios before he returned to ibiza for the summer. he started this year with eye luv u (co-produced by one half of paranoid london), his first new material since 2016s blondes have more fun, and the track that marked his return to turbo recordings. april saw tiga vs audions nightclub ep, the third collaborative release from tiga and matthew dear, and the follow-up to their mega-hit lets go dancing and the micro-hit fever. the nightclub ep featured 3 new productions: stabbed in the back (lead track), pink bells, and nonstop, and picked up heavy support from jamie jones, the martinez brothers, boys noize, dubfire, kolsch, heidi, gerd janson, erol alkan, michael mayer, and more.

a new label services deal with !k7 was announced this year that will see the relaunch of the two hundred & forty volts label and for the first time ever the entire swayzak back catalogue. to celebrate the re-launch and ultimately draw a line under the old material a 19 track retrospective will released shortly afterwards on dec 1. the lost tapes compilation will include some of their seminal classics, unreleased versions and a brand new single from swayzak & richard davis, all paving way for the new album next year. the compilation will be released on vinyl over 3 consecutive eps

this album has been many years in the making. around 2005 we were gigging, playing hip hop breaks and supporting acts like krs-one and raekwon. we wrote a lot of our own material, but we never properly recorded it in a studio, we did however make lots of -one mic- recordings onto a mini-disk player. tom kept hold of all of these recordings and in 2011 send copies of everything to the rest of the band. a short list of 30 were chosen to record properly. a basic studio was booked, and recording began, initially it was pretty basic, just drums, bass & keys with guitars overdubbed the following day. with these foundation rhythm tracks tom went away and edited them, creating structure, extra layers and demo mixes. these demo mixes were used to send to mcs. it was decided to go with american mcs as the type of thing we listened to when we wrote a lot of our material was classic 90s hip hop. el da sensei & sadat x were the first to respond to our request, and soon features were flying through ever other week. we actually had enough material for 2 albums, but picked what we wanted to represent our first release and continued to develop the material, including adding session musicians for harps, brass, strings and cuts. we chose 4 tracks to create videos for and got the ball rolling with various video makers. the final year was spent mixing, sequencing and deciding on artwork. the title cinder hill is reference to where the band spent many afternoons practicing at john & joe’s parent’s house, their mum maggie passed away in 2016 and the album is dedicated to her for her endless support and love for the music.

ansome returns to perc trax for his first original release since his debut album “stowaway” was released on the label in april 2016. since then he has extensively toured europe and north and south america with his ever changing modular live set as well as further establishing his south london analogue material imprint with a run of uncompromising releases.
despite decamping to berlin last year “british steel” shows there is still a no nonsense uk grittiness to ansome’s music. the frenetic rhythms reflect the pressure and paranoia of london life and for the first time his music incorporates vocals, thanks to the voice of occasional live collaborator oliver kohlenberg.
the four tracks take in everything from broken grooves to straight up dance floor face melters with a perfect balance of rhythm and texture. “poison your body” has been a highlight of perc’s recent dj sets for months now, whilst “marching powder” was featured on rebekah’s debut essential mix for bbc radio.

breaking his silence after twenty years, sebastian snoeck a.k.a sebastian s. will be the second member of belgian collective “bwp experiments” to release on the basic moves imprint. he has handed over two previously unpublished tracks made under the moniker caustic 14. after listening to “personal space invader” in 1997, carl craig asked sebastian s. to produce new material for his own label, planet e. “message in a box” and “rising star” were therefore made as a response to this request. however, due to a political transatlantic rift the tracks never saw the light of day and have since been stored on dat tapes, hidden away from the general public’s ears. if i had to describe sebastian’s output, i’d say it is most importantly energetic, positive, and groovy. it bears the mark of a certain nostalgia, shying away from the blind celebration of both futurism and experimentation in order to reach intemporality. this attempt to exist outside of time gives his productions a certain character and in my opinion his music has come to embody something i like to call “space opera techno”. sebastian s has succeeded where many before him have failed: by avoiding copycat tactics and simplified approaches to production he managed to create a singular identity. the tracks are recognisable after the first few seconds – and that’s what makes his work so unique!

left ear are re-introducing another ten lost tracks from nicholas georgieff and virgil work, st louis basement electronics duo workdub. the release spans material from 1989-95 and includes recordings from their sole lp and both cassette albums. workdubs music hardly fits into a vacuum and some might even say it’s otherworldly. tracks like reach for the stars and lunar module reflect dreams of space-age exploration, all the while their investigation into drum machines, synthesizers, samples matched with their organic live instrumentation work to create a unique atmospheric dubbed out sound.

following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, cassy is rounding off the year on a high. enter ‘kwench records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront house music. the remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on ep original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. they must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. and above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. this is something cassy has proudly learned to master over her dj career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. for the first release, cassy has called in one of her favourite house music producers, canada based demuir, to collaborate with her. demuir’s ‘derrick does disco’ ep which came out on great lakes audio in 2016 was a favorite in cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her mixmag presents cd ‘let’s talk about donna’, which accompanied her cover in june. there are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.

cheap present was formed in 2013 as a collaborative project between melbourne artists env and luis cl serving as an outlet for the pair to experiment outside of their main musical acts and subsequent genre limitations.
cheap present’s music is mostly recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs and draws sounds and influences from various sources. using old keyboards and samples mixed with digital high definition sounds, the duo create a mixture of raw elements from the techno and dance tradition with a nod to classical melodies and industrial music. each song features heavy drums to highlight the melodic playfulness of their bass, synth arrangements and humorous but expressive vocals and song titles. the anterior mini lp follows on from the duo’s wet garden cassette earlier in the year and presents a collection of material looking back from the group’s creation in 2013 to more recent output. the pair’s evolution is clearly on display on the this 12 inch, from initial jam based songs such as waterproofyouth and bergwasser, which have a spontaneous metallic edge, to new songs such as rooftops, which display a more meticulous and mature approach to production.

in the year 2053, two japanese musical explorers by the names of katsuyoshi and yousuke, travelled to the city of breda in the netherlands. whilst drinking beers in a park near the train station, they stumbled upon an old, partially decayed usb stick, hidden behind a trashcan. with usb technology being long absolete by then, they had no way of checking what was on there until returning back home to tokyo, where yousuke still had a macbook from around the turn of the century tucked away under his bed. after retreiving the data, the stick turned out to contain two 128kbps mp3s of unreleased coco bryce material. utilizing an extensive and painstaking radiocarbon dating procedure, they managed to pinpoint the production date to the spring of 2017. the tokyo natives then proceeded to reverse the mp3s back to their initial wav format via state of the art 2053 audio technology, and emailed them to richy at binary feedback, who subjected the files to a spot of mastering. richy immediately recognised the tunes from a series of youtube id request videos that had been doing the rounds for the previous 36 years. being the shrewd business man that he is, he decided to contact rick sanchez, who in turn teletransported the tracks back to 2017, dropping them off at an undisclosed dutch pressing plant. romanian visual artist raw parigi was contacted to sort out the labels, after which the records were pressed up and distributed to shops across the globe, hopefully making their way into the homes of hundreds of jungle and drumfunk enthusiasts worldwide. amen

ranges is back with a new release from the iconic js (alias j.s. zeiter) from uk. known for his mysterious project started in late 90s, he built up a reputation as one of the pioneers of dub techno. his personal and powerful basic channel infused material has been released on the js and mcmlxv series, as well as styrax leaves and phorma. this unmissable release features three immersive, reminiscent and timeless tracks pressed on 180g vinyl!

echocords colour sub-label continues this november with sephs teleport ep, featuring three originals from the argentinian producer. buenos aires born producer sebastian gelante aka seph has been kicking up a storm in the techno world since the turn of the millennium releasing material on labels such as dumb unit, harry klein, items & things, his own aula magna imprint and now he joins the echocord roster on sub-label echocord colour following recent releases from luke hess and stephen brown. across the teleport ep seph delivers his signature smooth, dubbed out and intricate style and&#8232,,,,the title-track takes the lead with billowing pads, bumpy off kilter rhythms and choppy stab sequences galore before delta strips back the vibe to raw drums and murky synth textures while ethereal pads ebb and flow through the composition. motion rounds out the package on the flip side, taking a straighter approach rhythmically this time round to allow the snaking dub stabs, rumbling low-end tones and evolving hats to take the lead throughout.

stepping up to continue defected’s in the house tradition is dj haus, a decidedly untraditional dj, producer, originator and diy label innovator. recognised among the underground house community as being at the cutting edge with his imprints unknown to the unknown and hot haus recs, dj haus’ kaleidoscopic eclecticism and refreshing lack of ostentation makes him, in defected’s opinion, an ambassador for the future of house music.
ahead of the release of the full compilation defected presents dj haus in the house this vinyl double pack keeps things super fresh and direct with a whopping eight compilation exclusives. new material from deadboy, jordan (uk), ejeca and innershades is included, plus remixes from dj octopus and dj steaw. demonstrating a colourful array of raw and jacking sounds that encompasses electro, chicago house, disco, techno and uk garage, dj haus in the house does the uk’s house scene immensely proud. it documents a moment in time when dj haus’ quietly pioneering dedication to the underground is celebrated in suitably reverent fashion.

ariel pink sets a serene but complicated scene for the next chapter in his curious career with “another weekend,” the first solo material heard since the prog-pop opus pom pom. contrary to the lyrics of “another weekend” (and fortunately for both fanatics and the newly initiated), pink is neither too shy or humble to have brought his singular style of pop music beyond the bedroom for the befuddled masses over the past two decades, but returned to the formative, familiar setting to craft what will surely live as another shimmering moment in an unrivaled canon. encapsulating the lingering euphoria of a regrettable weekend over the edge, “another weekend” speaks in morose volumes while whispering sweetly, the dichotomy of pink’s pathos once again on display. backed with “ode to the goat (thank you)”, “another weekend” will be shared as a 7” single.

2016 has been a good year for re-editor evil smarty and here pops up on tonbe s disco fruit imprint for the first time on vinyl. this is is a low-slung disco shuffler turned into a toughened-up house roller. if it feels good sees him in a celebratory mood (think sing-along disco funk with swinging new locked-in drums). feel the fire is a superb re-cut of the osmonds i,i,i that benefits greatly from some fresh new acid lines and the get down, a killer, 98 bpm funk revision that makes great use of the source material s urgent, impassioned vocal, bluesy guitars and wild synthesizers

swedes are known to have big confidence in authorities and conventions. among the people living in sweden, who take a stand against the above is one of the country’s most creative producers and musicians, jocke ahlund (teddybears sthlm, les big byrd, caesars etc.). under the pseudonym max von sydow his creativity shines brightly and here is some long awaited new material released on a 7inch on hoga nord rekords.

two of the best tracks off the brasileira lp get an updated dancefloor treatment by selvagem, carrot green and joakim. those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of cantico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiura) on the dancefloor know it s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didnt make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the brasileira material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix lamento africano/rictus? it would be the perfect package.

following their much acclaimed surprise debut, vermonts sophomore longplayer presented another set that rewards deep listening (allmusic) and a mix of simplicity and richness whose result is a feeling of spaciousness and a thrilling sense of weightlessness (xlr8r). stripping away even more percussion than on its predecessor, ii saw marcus worgull and danilo plessow zooming in on ambience, texture and sonic cohesiveness, allowing each electronic voice to come into focus (pitchfork). now, ii remixes puts the beat back into the mix, thanks to iconic artists dixon, i:cube and wassermann who each develop their own irresistible groove out of the immersive source material. as one of the albums most highlighted cuts, dschuna gets the royal treatment by innervisions head and internationally revered selector dixon who proves his strong command of the dance floor with a hypnotic ride that surrounds the soaring sounds of the original with tribal esque vocals. the instrumental version drops the chants, but retains the enchantment, all elegant rhythm and gorgeous strings. versatiles i:cube, legendary producer and dj in its own right, brings a distinctly parisian touch to the spectral skorbut, whose sci-fi-imbued widescreen aura gets reimagined as laser-gun-wielding space funk machine. meanwhile, wolfgang voigt aka wassermann condenses paradigma’s roaming synths into pulsating trance swells on his stomping krautramatrik mix.

leuk en ko is the dutch bastard child by unit moebius members jan duivenvoorden and richard van den bogaert. creating a vault of hard to classify material from mid eighties until early nineties, it didn t get out there for whatever reason. after de snoei 1 appeared on world of rubber 3, the big follow-up is here.

sumerian fleet is a trio formed by dutch producers alden tyrell and mr pauli, joined by zarkoff after their 2010 debut ep. their second ep came out in 2012 followed by their debut album ‘just pressure’ on dark entries in 2014. sumerian fleet have returned to release their sophomore lp ‘pendulum’ of all new material as well as a remixed version of “this game has no name” from zarkoff’s other band, fffc.

sparse and reflective, the chicago native’s work occupies a curious space on the periphery of the techno genre. by stripping back the music to all but its most vital elements - most notably the sequence, but at the same time maintaining a sense of urgency in its articulation, litüus crafts exquisite, ghostly shadows of busier, more fleshed out material. neither intro nor outro, but rather suspended in some middling point of formation - what remains is a remarkably pure examination of minimalist, experimental synthesis.

forgot 001 is the debut release from london based record label forgot. the compilation is comprised of four tracks by four different artists: harry orso, aka ratomagoson, was last year picked up by gilles peterson’s future bubblers project and has gone on to drop a succession of well received releases on labels such as twosixtysix, polyop and tru thoughts. forgot residents hoffy and joe s both come from beat-making backgrounds while phillip russel aka pila boasts an impressive catalog of material online. since its release campaign launched earlier this year, the forgot 001 compilation has received a wealth of positive feedback from a number of revered and respected djs such as dom servini, adam scrimshire and david hanke aka renegades of jazz. the release gained considerable airplay during the summer: dom servini on soho radio, risha on radar radio, selassie tbc & amy frenchum on worldwide fm, toshio maatsura on tokyo moon and adam scrimshire on balamii radio.

one of detroit’s best kept secrets, rick wade has been producing late night tracks and tapping into the essence of deepness since the 90’s. known for their universal appeal and appearing on over 20 different labels worldwide, soulful, timeless grooves are his signature. growing up in buchanan mi, 1 hour outside of chicago he was influenced by chicago radio station wbmx and the salsoul material and local stations that played the likes of al green and isaac hayes. in 1993 rick and dan bell started harmonie park to release house material and in 1995 rick started another label bass force primarily as an outlet for the booty / bass material that he records under the big daddy rick moniker. this time rick brings us “the depth charge ep”, three tracks of lavish organic deepness, with jazzy rhodes-chords, strings, trumpets, warm lush big sounding pads, combined with soulful vocal samples and crisp beats. london’s westlake72 contributes with a stunning remix of “be there”, injecting a fierce disco groove and vibe.

somne debuts on just this. the italian producer, whose real name is federico maccherone, presents his first release of 2017 – a solo ep marrying the same ethereal, wide-angle synthesis and intricate drum programming that appears on standout work for boddika’s nonplus imprint and the afterlife label. more than ever, maccherone shows his range – rolling, meditative recordings sit comfortably alongside some more overtly dance floor material, with both approaches bound by the same high-end production values listeners and dj’s alike have come to expect from the somne project. in various ways, the ep offers a certain degree of insight into maccherone’s dual identity as a producer of both clinical, dance-floor fare as well as a cerebral, leftfield work – and in turn, how the artist draws together these two strands of creative endeavour to craft unique and profoundly emotive electronic music. nods to classic idm and ambient sit at the periphery of the recordings, although the main focus is on the propulsive, contemporary techno derivatives – from warping, half-time opener divided love, with its crisp, white noise washes and clinical use of distortion – through to endgame’s exacting, peak-time drive. and whilst the form shifts across the ep from half-time, polyrhythmic work to more direct 4x4 compositions – everything remains bound by the same exquisite, otherworldly atmosphere that touches on the grandiose whilst maintaining a gloriously introspective bent.

thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music. he initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and techno community for his full-length variations of material by wolfgang voigt under his mike ink moniker, and richie hawtin. the variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of brinkmann s design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. the turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. both voigt and hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels. since then thomas brinkmann has produced some all-time classic dance tracks, many of which are collected here in what is a personal selection by thomas brinkmann himself. there are unreleased tracks, different versions, and tracks that have never been released on vinyl. a full colour 20-page book with track notes by thomas brinkmann and photos from his personal collection is included. limited edition box. highly recommended! ean4050486123461

a complex web – the story of dive position and the shining path ... began in 1982 when peter miller (aka dr. william s ray – vocals, tapes, guitar) met andrew millar (aka maurice spectograph the nose-y pieman – program execution) in gold coast, australia. while sharing a similar taste in music, they decided to form a band, so dive position was born. equipped with a korg synthesiser and tascam 4-track recorder, they -wanted to have the sound of kraftwerk, the groove of can, and the menace of throbbing gristle-, ending up with -a cross of suicide and the residents-, as peter recalls. in a local record shop they met stig andre leonardson (aka vincent blackshadow), who joined the duo on percussion and drum machine programming. their motto was -now is then-. dive position then became the fatal charm around 1984, and the fatal charm became the shining path who eventually released their only album -basic training manual- in an edition of only 250 copies, most probably in 1986. the band then started to drift apart, and shortly after andrew sadly passed away – this compilation -now is then- comprised of previously unreleased dive position and the shining path material is dedicated to his memory.

hailing from richmond, virginia, dj aakmael s profile has steadily risen over the last decade thanks to his supremely classy deep house sounds. recent times have seen him release excellent material on the likes of freerange records, axe on wax, church and release sustain, and now he makes his debut on monologues records with two deep cuts. dahlin is a string-laden stomper while organik is more of a synth-driven jam with some of his exquisite trademark keys improvisation. leon revol returns to the label after his well-received embers ep to rework dahlin in wonderfully introspective, hazy style, while label boss ben gomori steps up for a chunked-up, darkly-tinged rework of organik .

ahead of a forthcoming ep on midnight riot dropping later this year, norm de plume makes a welcome return to his own label plumage nearly a full 2 years since it s last release in 2015. plumage05 is norm s 3rd solo ep for the imprint. a1 new flow is vintage ndp fodder it s just the tempo that has risen. two bars of obscure disco gets lifted, chopped & filtered. the emerging source material merging with norm s own synth lines / swells and chopped vocal stabs - all underpinned by tight, chunky, grooving drums. deep, disco-house the way we like it. b1 another flow see s norm explore more of his own original musical composition with this slightly deeper, more electronic cut. a soul vocal sits upon deep pads and a driving, gritty 1 note bass line. pads and synths swirl and build and we get some wild modulation on the filters before the track breaks to slowly introduce a repetitive, rolling & pounding motif over which norm lays some signature pads and a lovely simple lead-synth line.

this new compilation of old kirchin material comes as a result of the free cd i produced for hull 2017 city of culture. there was a basil kirchin “weekender” this february, three days of talks, music and events based on the life, music and world of basil kirchin.

the latest instalment on christian burkhardt s retrospective/future-focussed c&b sessions projects sees him returning to one of the pivotal tracks of his career: doubledub released in 2009 but still slapping with finesse almost ten years later with its low-swung bassline, latent funk and evocative vocal, its elements resonate perfectly with everything going on in house and techno right now. these remixes couldn t have landed at a better time... jamie jones rolls in with a timeless rolling gem that gradually builds into an impeccable late night jack-out laced with surprise acid tendrils. jc fousdelamer brings the feels with a much slower, cosmic trip that lingers softly with spellbinding dubbed-out magic while reboot unearths the techno beast that was always lurking beneath christian s funk. stripped back machine funk at its finest, reboot never disappoints. naturally christian has also provided the original source material for those who want to kick it 2000s-style and for those who weren t old enough to catch it the last time around. join in if you know the chorus, doobie doobie...

the second chapter in petit singe’s travel through akash ganga comes in the form of four remixes curated by members and friends of the haunter records extended family. they all applied their peculiar agencies and experience to the original recordings. danse noire boss and spiritual explorer aïsha devi combined elements from all the tracks of the album with her own production to assemble “necromedia”, a powerful take on the sidereal source material. haunter veteran weightausend delivers a psycho-dub version of the frantic “oxo”, while zuli (of vent and uiq fame) deconstructs the same track turning into a kind of post-human and post-colonial beat he labeled “astrogangsta”. the final track is an alteration of the album’s finale “27.09.87” by canadian experimenter jesse osborne-lanthier, who let it mutate like a self-sufficent biodigital organism, opening it up for new experiences.
