ansome returns to perc trax for his first original release since his debut album “stowaway” was released on the label in april 2016. since then he has extensively toured europe and north and south america with his ever changing modular live set as well as further establishing his south london analogue material imprint with a run of uncompromising releases.
despite decamping to berlin last year “british steel” shows there is still a no nonsense uk grittiness to ansome’s music. the frenetic rhythms reflect the pressure and paranoia of london life and for the first time his music incorporates vocals, thanks to the voice of occasional live collaborator oliver kohlenberg.
the four tracks take in everything from broken grooves to straight up dance floor face melters with a perfect balance of rhythm and texture. “poison your body” has been a highlight of perc’s recent dj sets for months now, whilst “marching powder” was featured on rebekah’s debut essential mix for bbc radio.
two years since their debut release together, ansome & ossian combine again, this time on their own label. “butch” and “buck” go in very hard as does the remix from ayarcana with pdl doing a proper job on “buck” turning it into a dance floor creeper.
select remixes of tracks from the recent stowaway lp
perc trax s very own potter-loving boy wizard ansome returns with some of the choicest cuts from his debut album stowaway remixed by an array of uk talent. opening up the ep are james ruskin and regis working together as o/v/r. the blueprint and downwards bosses show their class with a precisely produced stepper of a remix, built on a wall of sub bass...opening the b-side perc provides the peak time moment of this 12- as he fires up the already energetic bad blood in his own confrontational style. closing things off, london s randomer makes his debut perc trax appearance with a radical take on ansome s original mix of back alley sally as swarming live percussion and synth stabs lead the charge… as with the original stowaway album elliot fox provides the main illustration, with perc trax design guru jonny costello creating the centre art

perc trax is proud to announce stowaway , the debut album from ansome. a ten track collection of brutal uk electronics which marks the next significant step in a rapid rise that has seen him become a key member of bas mooy s mord crew and play a constant run of hardware based live sets across europe.
a cornish ex-pat who now resides in south london, kieran whitefield is the man who puts the dark in poldark, combining a warm persona with a deadly serious attitude to his music. consistently changing his sound as new equipment and techniques are utilised in his studio the album mixes up the type of 5am club rippers he is known for with an exploration of more spacious and atmospheric tracks.
sam vicary a.k.a hunrosa (meaning “to dream”) is an electronic music producer capturing the wild organic senses of his childhood and anchoring it with a darker 2am undercurrent. based in manchester, he is principally a bassist and currently a member of the cinematic orchestra, paper tiger and the dominic j marshall trio, as well as performing with manu delago, imogen heap, matthew halsall, anil sebastian and stuart macallum. his latest offering “ransome” is a heavily rhythmic journey, full of textured hand percussion and soaring strings, accompanied by the beautifully melodic vocals of alice higgins drifting overhead. the clap clap remix sees the black acre mainstay exploring expansive territories, polyrhythmic hand percussion and textured electronica perfectly intertwine, drenched in dub ambience, heightened by scattered arpeggios and swirling synths. the music is inspired by a coastal upbringing, represented in the music via field recordings, as well as being aided by visual stimulus throughout the writing process.
and in the final days of great butane, the country pulled itself asunder. brother turned on brother, friend on friend, mother on child. in sweltering squash courts, high achievers dashed their racquets against the bright walls, grasping the graphite splinters and driving them, remorseless, into their opponent’s heartless cavities. in airless, air conditioned studios, televisual presenters frothed and roared. their eye balls foamed and their teeth melted, the viscous gloop rolling down their quivering chins like the tears of a chastised child. the poor plodded on, selling trinkets to strangers, and gossiping bollocks, barely noticing the hordes of ravenous aristocrats that circled, blue blood thrumming with the desire for cheap flesh. as the asphalt blazed and the tides of techwaste rose, smagghe & cross were prepared. they went to the special shed and untethered the special boat. they hoisted the mainsail and set the controls for the heart of tir na nog. they performed the navigation rituals that had been passed from initiate to initiate. they observed the stations of the cross, they consulted the oracle glowing palms, they gathered knowledge of the dark arts of sea-faring and piracy from david of the junto club*, and they dashed caution to the wind. a burning world at their backs, a universe at their feet, they set sail. they set sail into the night, through the day and beyond. they passed through sleep and dream, then through the crack found at the break of the day. they found themselves in the land that had been foretold. they were on their way they were on their way to paradiso.
having honed his sound on a string of feted self-released cassettes released on his own harsh riddims label - which has also put out everything from bizarro hip hop to gleaming synth pop - and dropped a hyped 12” released on the cgi imprint, the healthcare ep finds fit of body delivering his most accomplished work to date. five woozy original tracks jammed out on second hand drum machines, bass guitar, cheap mics and creaking synths, this is techno as it was first imagined, raw machine soul made for strange times and unknown futures.
perc trax slips out its first cheeky white label in over two years, pulling together two secret weapons from perc’s sets this year. first off perc trax newcomer tymon rips into perc’s own “hyperlink” giving it a shot of adrenalin which has been eating festivals alive all summer.
on the b-side ansome returns to perc trax for the first time since in infamous british steel release twisting manni dee’s “london isn’t england” into a grinding mass of kick drums and percussion, layering ewa justka’s vocal over one of his rawest productions to date.
the auckland-based, new zealand club night ‘haven’ has been a leading light in the pacific nation’s small underground dance music scene in the past year. from their home of the intimate backroom of basement venue whammy, founders keepsakes and jaded nineties raver have introduced the local night fiends to a diverse range of left-of-centre, techno-centric dance music in putting on shows with international artists from lo-fi australian electro wizard daze, to the harder-edged sounds of ansome and uvb.
