we are very proud and honered to release this ep by function aka dave sumner from sandwell district. one of technos true underground heroes, function (dave sumner) has been djing and making music for over 15 years. hailing from new york, he was seduced by techno music when jeff mills held a residency (as well as his own first) at the limelight in the early 90s. dave started to produce music and from the mid-90s onwards, put out music on damon wilds synewave and his own infrastructure imprint. together with regis (karl o connor) he worked as portion reform, putting out uncompromising music on downwards and becoming the only non-birmingham producer to release on the label. in 2008 dave moved to berlin, still working with regis, and now silent servant (john mendez), put his focus on the acclaimed sandwell district imprint. obsessed is a supper powerfull floating track for the dancefloor, a typical function production. this ep also contains remixes from substance and scb aka scuba, both peak-time tracks.

straight from germany, this talented producer delivered some of the best deep house music around. entitled >the first floor ep<, it starts with >show me< which is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. whilst >rooted< is a louche head nodder supreme. on the flip side, with >got that< hes creating an all-enveloping atmosphere with its oven-warm pads and rich analogue bass, punctuated with jazzy chords and vocal murmurings. >defense< showcases hes excellent knack for crafting moodymann style textures with the depth to boot, combining a solid rhythmic snap with drawn out vocal landscapes and detroit-referencing melodies. and to last,>trouble< is all brisk, upright percussive layers splayed over swooping disco filtration. nicks approaching house from various angles and tempos and naturally theres plenty of deft usage of samples, such an ep just demonstrate how on top of their game skylax / wax classic is right now - big tip!

fresh out of melbournes reputed house scene, the tortoise is one of the hottest talents to emerge from the current wave of house breaking down under. a side the puffing tortoise captures the 21-year-olds precocious talent and aims it squarely at the peak time. working his trademark airy vocals around a familiar disco refrain and bubbling bass, he works the track into a sweaty climax and skilfully keeps it there throughout the midsection. turning in a late night chugger on their remix, berlin based canadians the mole and hreno ride an insistent pulse and insect like percussion. twisting the samples, they guide the track into a dark jungle of chattering sounds to temper the tortoise youthful exuberance. the analogue melancholy of keep on keepin on is all in the sweeping synths and twinkling effects. recoiling the tension, the chicago influenced track seeps through the speakers and will sound as good at home as it will during specially chosen dancefloor moments. rondenion approaches the title track with fearless disregard for the original, combining the swelling tortoise sound with something entirely his own. his addition of a funk fuelled midsection, really breaks the track down and adds another slice of character to an ep already brimming with it.

ilario alicante might well be best known for his previous releases on big room labels cocoon and cecille but preconceptions can be misleading. here on sudden drop we plough a deeper furrow, not ones for hands up in the air shenanigans we prefer to get our heads down on the dancefloor for some serious introspection, which is why this 3 tracker from the italian born ilario finds its way onto our label. echotechno is indeed a main room slice of stomping techno but with that oh so important moody vibe that we crave here at sd,rouge dub on the flip delves deeper with an exceedingly trippy soundscape whilst untitled drop rounds things off with a spritely techno groove.

played and supported by kenny larkin, adam x, perc, norman nodge, drumcell, truncate, samuel l session, inigo kennedy, dadub, max_m, bcr boys, forward strategy group, d.carbone, claudio prc, electric indigo, conrad van orton, dave ellesmere and more. freddy k is an icon of the historic italian techno scene. in 90s his productions were on the historic acv records label. then over the years has always been one of the key points of the techno scene, with record music stores, radio shows (virus) and new labels like the historic elettronica romana (he was one of two minds that created this label, with sandro nasonte). his experience led him to be behind many current projects, he moved to berlin. this time it wants to make its contribution on his own label which is already out talents like conrad van orton and shapednoise (and its only the beginning). a label on vinyl only! here begins a series in 10 inch!

its been almost three years since the berlin based producer and off recordings label boss andre crom (alongside luca doobie) last appeared on freerange with their attica ep. well summer is upon us and what better way to return to the label than with an amazing sun-drenched vocal track accompanied by a remix from the hotly tipped diynamic artist david august.

for some time now the bar25 label has wanted to put out a release with all of our swiss musician friends – the many folks who came to the swiss weekends at the bar and generally made a habit of visiting us in berlin. the bar always had a deep swiss connection, manifested not least in the legendary swiss cabin, home away from home to larger groups of visiting friends and monday evening after-hour hotspot. alpenglühen – feines aus der schweiz (alp glow – swiss bliss) is a swanky double vinyl of high-quality production art made in switzerland. on vinyl 1, animal trainer from hive audio share a side with andri, the zurich native. techno gladiator wandler and live artist canson play the other side, while vinyl 2 lets two matadors from the new zurich club friedas büxe – don ramon and san marco – steer for a while. and the two music geniuses from galoppierende zuversicht are also here, fittingly, using sounds recorded live at friedas büxe for their track. the sampler concludes with the exceptionally talented mastra, who contributed a special song to this swiss musical collage. the digital release also comes with a bonus live track by sublime stage band rizzoknor. even the cover was designed in switzerland, during a bar25 night at the legendary cabaret in zurich. were all excited about this release since its a special one for the 25 label. marked both by good old times and new horizons, this record is a musical compilation representing the very special kind of artist that will always be welcome in wild berlin!

satoshi tomiie biggest hit was >tears<, a collaboration with frankie knuckles that was released on ffrr back in 1989. the release of the single was a ground breaking moment, at a time when the huge movement of house and techno was in its infancy. more than 20 years later and satoshi has just completed the building of his brand new studio in new york city. with his focus having been firmly on his dj touring for many years,interspersed with releases and remixes, its now time for the saw recordings boss to enjoy his very own new flight deck. straight up is a track that displays the true and original acid house sound! says systematic boss marc romboy of the first single to come out of tomiies studio. having immediately snapped up the tune for the label he called his good friend alex niggemann in berlin who, sharing his friends opinion and love of the track, spontaneously set about producing his own interpretation.
