simoncino (aka nick anthony) from italian super edit label no more hits crosses the atlantic and finds a new home with on the prowls sub-label party breaks. what immediately stands out upon first listen is the production style, not being able to tell what is a sample and what has been replayed... much like tensnakes mega hit. the simoncino sound is firmly rooted in proto-house and 80s r&b. with ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and cheap 80s pads, his concoction boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. all four tracks are subtle hits in their own right. excellent ep!

cesar merveille first joined the cadenza team in 2009 with the outstanding ep. descarga, produced alongside fellow artist pablo cahn and garnering high critique from industry and public alike. a well known and much loved figure within candenzas vagabundos ensemble and equally the international club circuit, it is with great pleasure that cadenza welcome cesar for his debut solo release on the label. maayancholy is a beautiful and heart wrenching record, showcasing the delicate and fiercely musical palette of the french producer. introducing with shimmering open cymbals. light and airy they rustle simultaneously and offer diversity via their multiple manipulation. unsettled and sporadic, they splash throughout the remainder of the piece in an ethereal manner, casting light over delicate steinway piano keys and stabbing muted chord sequences. argentinean artist guti composed the aforementioned piano, his jazz and pianist training clearly used to full degree on maayancholy with simplistic singular key arrangements and piercing chord sequences. as the ascending chords rise, they dance magically alongside the pitter patter of percussive drums in a stripped back and raw demeanour. maayancholy effortlessly lays bare the emotive side of merveille through this ambient and surprising track. luciano picks up the remix duty for with a 16 minute interpretation. as condensed cymbals and piano chords are electronically warped, urgency prevails and groove sets in, securing lucianos twisted version as the perfect companion for the simplistic original. pace quickened and intensity sharpened, luciano demonstrates the clear dance floor attributes within . maayancholy in an electronic reinterpretation fit for the floor

reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.

traxx - who has productions with international deejay gigolos and creme organization under his belt - is the man behind the third release from fledgling imprint lumberjacks in hell, following sterling efforts from spanish edits don rayko and the mysterious em vee. sprawled luxuriously across the a side is the epic 13 minute ode to danielle baldelli, >to the beat bizarre<, all tumbling drums, tangerine dream synths, and perfectly timed claps and keys. >an insane experiment<, influenced by ron hardy, clocks in at a meagre 09:47 and is characterised a straight up jacking rhythm, with junkyard drums, eerie synth squiggles and truly weird robotic gurgles trading blows before the track morphs into a full on acid wigout. in a word, awesome.

forma (mark dwinell, sophie lam, & george bennett) emerged on the nyc minimal synth scene in 2010 with a singular vision of cosmic krautrock for a new age. on their eponymous debut lp, the brooklyn-based electronics trio merges the melodic flow and primitive rhythms of their motorik predecessors with the hypnotic drones of minimalism, creating an intricate work both addicting and rewarding with repeat listens. like many of the lp s eleven tracks, the churning and relentless forma237b draws its energy from a precarious equilibrium between structural rigidity and free improvisation, a dynamic at the heart of forma’s universe. with lush, distant soundscapes as interludes between these peaks, forma’s inaugural full-length is a harmonious and expansive expression of the enduring power of kosmische musik.

parisian label my love is underground calls on the service of kool vibe, a veteran dj & clubber from paris. although now in his 40s, this is his debut release, but to hijack a well worn phrase, its been worth the wait. mr vibe has clearly spent many a night on discerning dancefloors, and the three tracks on offer here are produced with the steady hand of someone who knows their way around a house tune.
