released in solidarity with tigas anti-tech house crusade, a silent campaign fought everyday on the streets of your hometown, blaze finds russian crypto-whiz dimitri veimar still dancing with the rawer-than-the-rawest-dog electro thats brought him to the dizzying heights of the mid-tier crags of mt. turbo mountain. throwing his weight behind what some in the media are probably already calling tigas war was absolutely necessary following the events of a recent gig in moscow. veimar opened the night by playing no fewer than three tiga tracks, which anyone whos read tigas taboos can tell you is definitely a tiga taboo. deeply immersed in the practice of pouring his own mineral water, tiga ignored the hootin and hollerin of the vips crowding the dj booth (including dennis miller and diego maradona), and proceeded to play a set entirely comprised of recordings of every embarrassing thing veimar had ever said in his life. four hours later, an emotionally-shot veimar collapsed into tigas arms, with the magnanimous label boss whispering, i forgive you, dimitri into his ear. the release also features a broken techno remix from mysterious european producer florian kupfer, who made us sign a non-disclosure-agreement dictating that we can only describe him as mysterious, enigmatic, and/or european, so well have to let the music do the talking.

after an excellent 12inch on rosten label sstrom drops his first full length otider, which is by far the most diverse offering of the project encompassing elements of different genres and putting them in woolen and dense sonic textures. otider could be loosely translated as un-times or non-times. it positions the tracks out of specific context and rather represents them as some rediscovered artifacts relating to personal experiences of the artist. otider slightly distances sstrom from techno label as the compositions elegantly drift between lush transparency and thick grooves of outsider/lo-fi house as in kronofobi or svvaren or sensitive, yet subtly monolith and mellow techno on damm and i huvudet. in modernisten we can even trace echoes of coldwave/synth aesthetics with melancholic guitars sweeping over hypnotic rhythmic patterns, while closer sov nu introduces something which reminds a darker form of garage music with light synthpads constantly surfacing among raw mechanical beats. all the tracks were created over a relatively long period between 2010 and 2017 by employing the process where he let his hands work automatically without interference from his head. this freedom could be felt across the release, which juggles with different musical forms so lightly and organically, but at the same time maintains a coherent vision, which illustrates the vast scope and diversity of the artist.

the first track on annas debut ep for novamute , razor was born while playing with her roland mks-80, a synth from 1985 and one of annas favourites. you can hear the fat, juicy sound on the breakdown and ever evolving throughout. the track has already been getting a great reaction when played out in her sets. escapism plays with trippy arpeggios that lay down the atmosphere for the whole track, it feels really dense and trippy but still powerful, making use of heavier drum sounds for the groove. the last track on the ep dreamweaver, is a simple track that always works well on the dance floor. anna reworked this track many times before deciding to strip down the beat and focus on the final sequence, sometimes the simple ideas are the ones that work the best.

following the u.s. army’s liberation of munich in may 1945, the world’s first amerikahaus was inaugurated there with a library, a magazine reading room, a children’s library, a record and lm department, and lecture and seminar rooms, together with a concert hall and exhibition space. up to 80.000 people a month utilized the offerings of amerikahaus during its early years. beginning in 1953, the united states information agency (usia), an institution founded as an instrument of the cold war, began to finance amerikahaus. in addition to representing the u.s., its principal task in west germany was to democratize and denazify the postwar population. after the beginning of the cold war, many of these re-educative measures also served as propaganda in a programmatic linking of democratic and economic principles meant to strengthen transatlantic relations against the communist bloc. in 1997, the u.s. government concluded its work at amerikahaus in munich and shipped almost all its items back to the states. however, 1.630 long-playing vinyl records from the library were left behind in cardboard boxes in the basement. when michaela melián looked through this forgotten collection, one of the first things she came across was don gillis’ 1940 tone poem »portrait of a frontier town«, whose second movement is entitled »where the west begins«. don gillis, a composer and radio producer, used the musical styles and genres of that decade to create an explicitly american program music. michaela melián’s »music from a frontier town« is fueled by the diverse sonic material of this extensive record collection once considered as an instrument of cultural education. this record has been produced in addition to melián’s twenty-four hour performative music installation »music from a frontier town« in the garage of what is now the bavarian center for transatlantic relations at karolinenplatz, munich (4-5 may 2018).

uun returns to his imprint ego death with an ep that showcases his progression in both sound design and atmosphere. the a side kicks things off with on the concept of irony, a broken beat assault which serves as a mission statement with its scattered snares and vocal samples. the tangled web continues this mood but with a more intense structure, heavy on hypnotic synths that weave in and out of the tracks percussive framework. where as the a side is the logical extension of the first three ego death releases, the b side serves to showcase a deeper atmosphere while maintaining uuns preference for dense arrangements. the other features a haunting ethereal pad that floats above a broken kick pattern and a bed of clicks, pops, and field recordings. the closing track, absurd existence, forges all the elements of the artist s sound into perhaps his most melodic work to date. it is therefore senseless to think of complaining since nothing foreign has decided what we feel, what we live, or what we are. jean-paul sartre

erst vor gut anderthalb jahren startete die erste staffel von »stranger things« bei netflix, trotzdem hat die us-amerikanische science-fiction-mysteryserie um mike, will, dustin, lucas und elfi bereits kultstatus erreicht. das gilt auch für den soundtrack, der nun anfang 2018 auf vinyl erhältlich ist: »stranger things: music from netflix series« kombiniert kurze ausschnitte, dialoge etc. mit songs aus der serie. dazu gehören klassiker wie »should i stay or should i go« von the clash, the polices »every breath you take«, joy divisions »atmosphere«, »time after time« von cyndi lauper, »rock you like a hurricane« von den scorpions und viele mehr.

der multi-instrumentalist matt kidd aus houston schreibt tiefgründige kompositionen. slow meadow veröffentlichen das 43-minütige album costero am 17. november. die 10 songs sind matt kidds zweites werk als slow meadow.
costero folgt dem debüt des 33-jährigen, das vom new york observer und vielen anderen gefeiert wurde. costero ist eine wehmütige und zum teil opulente sammlung mit entwürfen für piano und streich-quartett.
kidd legt den fokus auf die verbindung zu zeitgenössischen minimalisten wie goldmund und nils frahm. der französische illustrator jan garet steuerte original-werke für jedes der zehn stücke auf costero bei. die platte wurde von james plotkin gemastert.

kurz vor ende das jahres kommt berliner dj legende, oliver marquardt aka dj jauche, mit dem dritten sampler seines neuen albums „nachtboutique – dirty night s and boogie light s “ auf flaneur recordings. auf der a – seite gibt es einen 11 minütigen track, der sich langsam aufbaut, sich verspielt und dennoch monoton in die hüften gräbt und unweigerlich auf die tanzfläche lockt. auf der b – seite finden sich ein deeper, 303 getragener vocal track mit der in new york geborenen sängerin desney bailey und ein klassischer housetrack mit reminisenz an die neunziger. ein weiteres release auf der musikalischen reise durch 30 jahre dj, club und produktionsarbeit findet hier auf flaneur recordings seinen weg aus dem album heraus auf den dance floor.

dead cross ist eine neue band, bestehend aus mike patton (faith no more, fantomas, mr. bungle), dave lombardo (ex-slayer, misfits, suicidal tendencies), justin pearson (the locust, retox, head wound city) und michael crain (retox). gemeinsam liefern sie mit dem gleichnamigen debüt eines der sehnlichst erwarteten metal-alben des jahres ab. dass dead cross nicht in genre-konventionen verharren, dafür bürgen die protagonisten. hier eine coverversion des new wave-klassikers von bauhaus namens -bela lugosi s dead-, dort der gesang, der gerne mal virtuos die tonlagen wechselt. dennoch bleibt das klangbild von dead cross immer auf den punkt. die musik ist hoch-energetisch, streckenweise sehr dunkel gefärbt, die inhalte verarbeiten indirekt die aktuellen verwerfungen in politik und medien. lp mit glow-in-the-dark schriftzug in transparent / rot / schwarz und downloadcode inklusive!
