new zealander julien dyne is a multi-instrumentalist with a long and impressive history of collaborative, live and solo musicianship. best known for his solo work on bbe and having worked with the likes of theo parrish, steve spacek, andreya triana and lord echo - one of soundway’s most successful artists. dyne has also accumulated a number of accolades over the course of a 10-year career including but not exclusive to being hotly tipped by both moodymann and gilles peterson.

the man, the myth, the legend, back in the 80s jesse rae, along with roger troutman and bernie worrell, was part of the p-funk movement that was hugely influential to detroit’s early electronic experiments. lesser known is that the enigmatic scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s. the inaugural release on glasgow label southside shufflers presents two of jesses shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the global 95 ep- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album compression. ever the innovator, jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live isdn technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing african, us electro-funk and old scots influences. 23 years later, jesse’s under the radar shufflers sound more relevant than ever. southside shufflers are a record label and sports collective based in glasgow with outposts in london and amsterdam. sss aint no half steppin!

maps is a project by a london-based lithuanian drummer and producer, marijus aleksa. this labour of love is the culmination of many hours spent touring and in-session with some of the greats of londons bubbling contemporary jazz scene, resulting in marijuss first solo project to date. the ep combines elements of jazz, afrobeat and electronic music through free-form jamming and remixing, with movement and the dance floor firmly in mind.

ellum black, the new sub-label of maceo plexs notorious imprint, focuses on the dark and intellectual side of techno. this second record instalment features spanish producer architectural. following an ep on the main branch of the label in 2017, juan rico aka architectural delivers 3 forward thinking cuts for this record. architectural is known for his detailed and magnetic productions and on ‘a girl with no friends ep’ he goes deeper into the hypnotic edge of his soundscape. the first track we hear ‘romanticism movement’ creates a statement for the vocabulary of sounds rico used for this record such as low frequencies and deep grooves. the title track follows on the b-side with develops on these textures. closing the trio ’never yours, boy’ finishes the ep with another variation of architectural’s romantic techno repertoire.

autarkic makes up part of an unspoken alliance from telaviv, which is currently altering the state of contemporary house and techno music. heavy dreamer, the artists first, four track outing on life and death, showcases much of what this bold movement is about, all while pushing it forward into progress. ever present tones of kraut and punk rock flow throughout the ep, beginning with some things to keep, a pumping, warehouse floor filler. autarkic steps up to the mic, often re-amping and distorting his vocal delivery, placing it alongside finely programmed keyboard riffs, tough drums and further psychedelia. realistic guru, the trippiest of the lot, is tailor made for an early morning dj tennis afterparty excursion. slowing down the pace on powerhouse, autarkic hints at moments of bauhaus and tones on tails doom and dance pop, while offering up a digital only, stripped down, bonus version. the title track stands as a testament to this new wave of artists, coming from the shores of israels mediterranean coastline. bass, drums and guitar are recorded through bespoke boxes and presented through the lens of modernist club culture.

kvest is a dj/producer from bosnia and herzegovina, who has previously released only digital ep s. now, his first vinyl release comes in a form of pure minimal deep techno sound. this ep includes 2 original mixes in which the synth sounds are diffused through light movement and gentle variation, as well as two awesome remixes. one of the remixes is by a young dutch producer kevin arnemann, who runs his own label taped artifact, and has performed in big techno festivals such as ade and awakenings. another remix comes from the owner of kin-ben label, the human & assets. this is the 7th vinyl release on the label.

ital foundation came together in the winter of 1977, out of a shared belief in rastafarianism and deep love of reggae music in their home place bermuda. their music tackles global issues of colonialism, poverty, prophecy and redemption. they released only one album in their legendary career, the 1980 release ital foundations vol.1. a tumultous history rought with trial and tribulation resulted in ital foundation being an underground musical movement that saw record sales all over the world while the band languished in obscurity.

this time best record italy presents an italo masterpiece from 1983 produced by the duo : francesco paolini (pasta dj) and alessandro novaga that became a massive dancefloor classic in chicago house with the likes of the -hot mix 5- on cult radio station wmbx and regularly played by the legendary ron hardy at the infamous muzic box. it was very influential at it s time on the early chicago house and acid movement.

baiano & os novos caetanos was a band formed by prolific and multi-talented brazilian comedians chico anysio and arnaud rodrigues. satirising brazils tropicalia movement in the 1970s, the duo took a friendly crack at the likes of caetano veloso and psychedelic rockers novos baianos, with their righteous tropicalista alter-egos ‘baiano and ‘paulinho boca de profeta poetically denouncing the dictatorship while simultaneously mocking those who took themselves too seriously. jazz funk legends azymuth play backing band with keyboard maestro jose roberto bertrami also responsible for the arrangements on the album. azymuths free and funky psych sounds combine with accordion, harmonica, brass and plenty of rural brazilian rhythms, for a hugely varied album drawing on mpb, funk and soulful samba rock. the album also features orlandivo who co-wrote many of the songs, and renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer durval ferreira.

jaars other people is pleased to present a new solo record of guitar and live custom electronics artist patrick higgins, an american avant-garde composer and producer from new york city. higgins is known for his work in experimental and contemporary classical music, playing guitar and composing in the mythical avant-noise-jazz ensemble zs. his solo work as a composer unites european avant-garde forms with the post-minimalist howl of new york. his upcoming release on other people, dossier, is a four-movement piece performed live without overdubs or edits. all of the samples and synthetic patches were custom built and specifically engaged to become elements of live guitar manipulation. the sound world is post-apocalyptic in spirit but builds to an intimate and reflective end. the material was developed over a two-year period and finalized at the end of 2016. cover art is by alfredo jaar.
