the third release on ascorbites own corseque records is not for the faint-hearted. advance the flight and inadequate demeanor are clearly twins, delivered from the darkest corners of ascorbite’s mind. the bold, pounding quality of the ep brings adam x or grovskopa to mind but ascorbite has a dystopian touch that’s entirely his own. advance the flight is like a battle track for an intergalactic armada being attacked by an infinite horde of swarming space ants. inadequate demeanor, on the other hand, is a grim steampunk fantasy of a black, shining locomotive plainly out of control, raging on red hot rails towards the end of the line. however, while both tracks are rough and unforgiving, ascorbite manages to invigorate them by the use of subtle melancholic atmospheres – like rainy skies over a concrete desert. a balance between brutalism and vitality. a trademark of ascorbite and corseque records.

matrixxman has been a dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. the san francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for dekmantel records. over the course of three eps (rhythm, acid, polyphony), charles mccloud duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. the concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation. this second ep sector ii: acid- shows an exercise in acid. similarly, the tb-303 may conjure certain knee-jerk reactions at a glance, but acid has the potential to cover a broader palette of emotion than one might initially expect. sector ii holds three squirming 303 sequences and the classic rhythmic drum programming of arrival, bad acid and i am matrix. rites on the other hand is more subtle and fluent, swinging with hazy acid flourishes and dynamic syncopation.

second release comes from berlin based b.e.f., soaking you into a deep journey of the now. a repetetive meditation - forward pushing and hypnotising. b.e.f. has been a steady part of parallel berlin since a few years, so it s a logical next step to release his debut solo ep on our label. he has been releasing under different monikers, which have been subjected to quite a lot of variations. he meanwhile found a coherent foundation of a rough, hypnotic and gritty sound. coming along with the process of discovering the most genuine way of expression, he focused on analogue gear. “waveforms are not only a mathematical law, waveforms are everywhere, in all sections of everyday life, in light and in sound. parallel is one of the many parallel universes out there, living and believing in variety, whilst pointing onto respect for various life forms. we do what we love”.

opening this essential release is the slow and spaced out groove of replicant v1, with fat synths and dark spacecraft sounds circling you as the drums grow ever bigger. shoulder of orion then drops into a rickety groove with soulful pads stretching off to the horizon as rough drums march below. proving he has real range, motor rotor is a deep and driving track that conveys a real sense of motion as it races along an intergalactic highway, and love on time picks up the pace yet further with twisted synths roaming free above a motorik kick and icy hi hats. last of all for the digital release, replicant v2 is a spacey and dramatic techno effort with widescreen pads and gurgling synths making for a turbulent ride. first vinyl bonus cut hang on is a forceful seven minutes of eerie and cosmic techno that stretches out in all directions as manic melodies rain down from above. lastly, traktion is full of ominous drones, crashing percussion and sombre pads and makes for a dramatic and driving track that is filled with pain

paris, 1954. henri-françois rey wrote the thema of the piece la bande à bonnot and asked boris vian to write the songs in order it to become a musical comedy. la bande a bonnot was the name of a french illegal anarchist group. as soon as the piece was played at théâtre du quartier latin, french authorities made it being stopped. musical parts have been lost. 1971, jacques canetti has been told the original handwritten lyrics of the boris vian songs have been found again. jacques canetti asked louis bessières to re create music parts. 1975, jacques canetti released this record with songs being performed by judith magre, yves robert, lucienne vernay, pierre jamet, kim ibarra, maurice barrier & cécile vassort + 2 bonus tracks whose lyrics were suppsoed to be too for the original spectacle.

invaderband are a garage/artrock band assembled in 2012 in derry, northern ireland by mancunian singer, guitarist and songwriter adam leonard who enlisted local musicians to voltage-enhance his dystopian post-punk songs.
leonard has a prolific history as a musician with an extensive back catalogue of solo and collaborative work, and was an occasional member of one of stewart lee’s favourite bands, the owl service. he was also the winner of the uk city of culture 2013 resonate award for best song. invaderband’s lead guitarist / synthmeister is chris mcconaghy aka our krypton son. bass frequencies are provided by gavin mccartney (of here comes the landed gentry, the murder balladers) and drums are handled by rion mccartney (on the album) and john goodman (live).
invaderband’s debut single the implausible man was issued on record store day 2015 and the follow-up, attack of the pod people arrived in december ‘15. the singles were picked up by local, regional and national bbc radio, with the latter making it onto the bbc 6music recommended playlist.

matuss returns to her absence seizure imprint february 2017 with ‘seizure no.6, comprising four original compositions from the new york based artist. since launching the absence seizure imprint in 2015 alongside producer friend abe duque, new yorks matuss has carved out an impressive back-catalogue with this new release marking its sixth and previous material garnering the attention of acts like derek plaslaiko, beaner, dj deep, twr72 and norman methner. once again julia matuss, better known as simply matuss, is at the controls to deliver four original compositions, the first of which la folie sees her deliver a haunting slice of tension building techno via throbbing bass, organic percussion hits and subtly evolving distorted rhythms. muirr follows and takes a more reserved strip back approach with swirling bass tones and sparse drums gradually building towards a frenzied fusion of psychedelic synth swells, vocal stabs and acidic hits. opening the flip side of the record is i hate valentines day, a murky five-minute number employing mind-bending low end drones, dynamic off-kilter percussion and sweeping atmospherics before acid slay closes, and as the name would suggest lays focus on tripped-out acid licks alongside chugging bass and minimalistic drums.

over the years jim coles has turned his hand to a fair few different styles and made them his own. these days, most know his om unit alias as a significant force in fresh developments within d&b (recently found larking about with alix perez, binga and more in the richie brains project on exit records), but it s not always been that way.

ltd coloured edition... a year after his last outing on the label, andrew red hand is back on mos deep with another fine four track offering. known as the romanian underground resistance, red hand also works with labels like detroit underground and has a timeless house and techno sound that is always uncompromising. . lonely heart opens things up in spritely fashion, with frazzled synths circling round a rooted rubbery groove. the lines grown more wild and untethered as things roll on an it is sure to carry floors away to another dimension. sleepless nights is another busy cut, with gurgling acid wrestling with more serene and soulful synth smears. bristling and brimming with energy, it s a fluid bit of techno that is as classic as it is fresh. dry tears is another fulsome arrangement, with light and shiny synths, gritty bas notes and airy hi hats all jostling for your attention and last of all, moms spirit soars off to the horizon on a smooth house tip, with rueful pads, sweeping strings and elastic bass really getting you on your toes. these are clean, crisp, accomplished tracks that cannot fail to make their mark

jackie is a biographical film from chilean director pablo larraín. starring natalie portman (black swan) in the title role, the movie follows jacqueline kennedy from the days when she was first lady of the white house to the aftermath of the assassination of john f. kennedy. critically lauded since its debut at the venice film festival where it won the best screenplay award, jackie also received the platform prize at the toronto international film festival and is a heavy favorite going into awards season.
the score to jackie was composed by experimental british musician mica levi, best known for her ethereal score to 2013’s sleeper hit under the skin. mournful and eerie with a touch of the surreal, levi has delivered an unmistakable musical tapestry every bit as iconic as jackie o herself.
jackie is getting the vinyl treatment. the mastered-for-vinyl score is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a heavy stock euro sleeve featuring black-and-white artwork of jackie. a download card containing a digital version of the album is also included.

this record collects many intimate things and singular ideas about voiski, it is also an excellent synthesis of his musical style, and how it is evolving towards a more and more unknown territory, where his -post-trance- idea collides classic detroit influences, 90 s techno (with that underworld cover obviously) and a very unique sonic identity he has developed playing his synths with a bright and powerful sound design, and rich arpeggios.
