while the record can be enjoyed in one long listen, there are going to be different tracks that speak to individual listeners. clouded is one of the stronger arrangements, taking the sonic sweeps often heard from marcel dettmann or function and filling the surrounding space with dreamy samples and warm bass. stems is playful and fluid, and the records opener, rise is an eerie and melodic tinkering intro. as a whole, the release of hinterland on ghostly international is a perfect marriage the label has always had an affinity for music with depth and frequencies that can magnetize a wide variety of listeners
deluxe 2 cd digipack! silver hotfoil outer and embossed print! to this day, sven väth represents the electronic music scene like no other dj. in the nineties he was mentor and shaman, operating from frankfurt/ germany introducing us to the world of electronic music. after this crazy, extroverted years väth created the cocoon family as a global platform for his and his colleagues activities. väth has always been for the scene baba, which means dad in hessian dialect. today he is the baba for a new generation of djs: music is not about strategizing new release information your niche potential. it does not matter if a tune is approved by the opinion makers. it’s about what you feel personally and what you can create with the music in your work as a dj. to this day, väth manages to play tracks that you wouldnt expect and puts them in a context you would not expect either. like no one else he succeeds in arranging the entire electronic music cosmos

infotext hamburg citys adana twins have made short work between their time joining the watergate camp to jumping into the spotlight helming the latest watergate mix compilation. the duo step up to deliver a thrilling and complex trek into the dramatic, emotionally-charged fields with their distinct brand of techno making it abundantly clear the two have a voice that needs to be heard. over the course of sixteen tracks adana twins weave a vivid musical tale having acquired an assortment of exclusive unreleased material from their crew of likeminded and extremely talented friends like acid pauli, sbth, upercent, lehar, daniel bortz & sascha sibler, aaaron, andré hommen, and musumeci among others. besides their friends, adana twins contribute three originals to the mix including an absolute monster remix of patrice bäumels decade old track ‘roar which has already received huge praise and tons of plays from heavyweights like tale of us and solomun receiving massive reactions every time its played. not only is the mix a stellar display of the duos mixing and storytelling prowess, but all tracks from the mix, minus adana twins ‘pavan which will see its release on their own imprint tau, are exclusive to watergate and will be released as separate eps following the mix release.

kink - live improvised outro as we reach the 19th year of cocoons residence on ibiza, the location may have changed from amnesia to pacha, but the enthusiasm for perhaps the most enduring party on the mediterranean island is guaranteed to continue. actually, only the sun, sea and wind are more reliable! the celebrated live sets of bulgarias life wire strahil velchev aka kink have been a vital ingredient for the ecstatic nights over the years. with unprecedented regularity, the man from sofia has been voted best live act by readers of groove magazine for the last three years, and in 2017 he was also crowned best electronic music producer. as kink, together with sven väth, celebrate one of the most popular evenings of this years season as well, what could be more logical than to repurpose the famed cocoon ibiza mix cd series into another live document of the event? no sooner said than done, and so here the bulgarian offers a 70-minute cross-section of his skills. well-known tracks, especially from last years playground lp (running back) meet exclusive, unreleased material in a spontaneous tour de force through the history of electronic dance music. there are distinctive nods to chicago and detroit, jazzy organs spiralling into string-drenched skies
terence fixmer’s path through the changing techno landscape of the past 20 years has been anything but direct. indeed, the french born producer, musician and planete rouge label founder has long been influenced by the periphery of continental european dance music subgenres from electronic body music, new beat and acid, before combining them into his own pioneering hybrid of futuristic, ebm-inflected techno with classic releases such as 2001’s muscle machine or the collaborative between the devil lp with nitzer ebb’s douglas mccarthy as fixmer/mccarthy. while the sound in recent years has been rediscovered and recast in diverse contexts by a new generation of producers, through the cortex sees fixmer gravitating toward a different kind of industrial-tinged electronics, led as much (or more) by analogue sequencers, melodies and ultra-saturated sounds of synthesizers than drums and percussion. across eight tracks at a compact but varied 40 minutes, the lp touches on an aesthetic hinted at in recent ostgut ton releases (2016’s beneath the skin ep and 2017’s force ep), revealing a sonic narrative through noisy, screaming synth/vocal riffs with a jagged, guitar- like post-punk sensibility.

8 tracks originally recorded between 2002-2010 these works consist of music taken from the same sessions that became his highly ambitious vinyl factory music and installation project ‘format’ in 2015. edited and complied from a series of lengthy nocturnal synthesiser, drum machine & 8 bit sampler improvisations they range from melodic idm, driving electro, motor city techno & tripped out house excursions.
the air texture series asks two producers/ performers to select a double cd worth of unreleased music. the only guidance is the music should not be main floor bangers, other than that we get out of the way, allowing them autonomy over their selection. this time steffi and martyn were asked to step up. exciting, since as residents at berghain/panorama bar - two of the most important dancefloors in the world… how would two such respected artists approach our experimental ethos. bringing together contributions from veteran producers such as total science, as one (kirk degiorgio) and stingray, as well as contemporaries actress, vivek and shed, the artists explain in a press release that the selected tracks are all unique interpretations of a leftfield, non linear aesthetic. 26 total tracks including the above mentioned, answer code request, shed, dbridge, appleblim, faltydl, mosca, kink, and steffi and martyn as well.

lucy and rrose, now coming together as the lotus eaters, have established themselves separately as techno artists who are just as comfortable operating in the uncharted area of experimental music. running their own labels (stroboscopic artefacts and eaux, respectively), they have gained a cult following, both influencing and challenging the direction of techno.

after a bunch of succesful, module blasting releases by german-based label struktur, it is time for another physical one. for our first compact disc, we aim at giving you a fine selection of predominantly analogue techno in all its varieties by artists from all around the globe. for this special treat, called -black circle-, we compiled 12 tracks by exciting producers for you to discover. the sounds range from more industrial, spherical and hypnotic compositions, like taken out of one of william gibson s dystopian tales, to completely overcharged, circuit-melting monstrosities, that might just leave you speechless. if you are a connoisseur of analogue sounds and well structured pieces, this is for you!
martyn releases new album voids, his first for ostgut ton over the past year, dutch-born, washington d.c.-based producer martyn has undergone a metamorphosis – one that began with a medical emergency and has dovetailed into personal musical transformation. having narrowly avoided death after suffering a heart attack, martyn reentered his studio and began a process of reassessing the elements that drive him to make music: sampling, unpredictability, melancholy, sci-fi, polyrhythms, texture, ecstatic moments, detroit, interlocking percussion and bass. however, the initial spark to start producing again came through his experience listening to max roach’s 1979 ensemble percussion album m’boom.
undisputed rulers of the new pop empire, kadebostany announce the release of their genre-defining new album monumental, coming march 2018. the quest to design this ultimate pop album has taken kadebostany through hills and plains the world over in search of unconventional contributors and outlandish ideas. all manner of peculiar artists were assembled to weave the intricate tapestry that is monumental, the banner for a pop empire which everyone can stand under. monumental features both newcomer and confirmed singers: delhia de france, rhita nattah, anna kova, sissi rada, kate wallace, and kadebostanys front live singer kristina.

surgeon’s new full-length, luminosity device, takes bardo thoedol - the tibetan book of the dead - as a starting point for a rhythmic journey into those interstitial spaces where body, mind, and soul no longer seem like distinct categories. it has the potential to turn anything from a club visit to a train commute into a collision with the otherworldly.

extraordinary pieces of music have long stood in direct correlation to the physical surroundings that inspire them. when oliver koletzki and niko schwind packed up their berlin studios last april to spend a month locked away in a cottage nestled in the stunning nature of cape towns noordhoek area before heading to afrikaburn, little did they know that its long beaches, dramatic mountain views and the heritage of its indigenous people would have such a profound effect on the club-ready sound they had championed with a string of eps and live-performances since 2015. the result of four weeks of geo-cultural stimuli and creative experimentation culminated in the album noordhoek, released in may 2018 on stil vor talent. while the productions on noordhoek display the same on-point sound design of previous oliver koletzki and niko schwind releases, the impressive emotional depth and electronic floor-focus of its twelve tracks effortlessly merge with complex rhythmic textures to form a contemporary narrative on ancient dance rituals. after a roller coaster ride through twelve versatile yet coherent productions, one thing is certain as the ultimate crack of thunder crashes down on noordhoek: south africa fuelled the creative energy of two remarkable musicians, who where able to translate the abundance of their impressions into a truly original world of sound.

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now – 7 years later – this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks. »applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible. layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance. rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the ems studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«. the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular av performances.

2 cd in a beautiful gatefold cover.
salvation is found by identifying thesis and antithesis of a logically conceived duality as a receptive polarity which is then synthesized and expressed on a higher level. thereby practicing what is preached is the all-embracing love in the presence of the creator. the purest original state pre-dating the judgmental so called >fall of man< in unity with life itself is the principle of holiness and the root of inner peace. glory to g-d!

after more than three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the -continuous dj mix- format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. this cd-mix, named naïf, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers (e.g. margaret dygas, steve bicknell, jeroen search, pom pom, marco shuttle or gunnar haslam) along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. owing to his additional projects, such as collaborating with pan artist konrad sprenger on a modular organ system to be installed in museums, or scoring for a neue musik ensemble, the berlin-based efdemin is known as hiker between the worlds . his regular stints at berghain or panoramabar, his partnership with established labels (e.g. ostgut ton, dial, sushitech) and the leadership of his own naïf imprint all demonstrate that since more than a decade.

digipack, 4c print w/ solid color. cover artwork expands over all pages, liner notes inside. 5 1 1 5 9 3 is the first full-length album release of vienna based artist electric indigo, who started djing in the late 1980s, worked at the legendary hard wax record store in the early 1990s, and effortlessly manages to entertain the dancing crowd at berghain as much as the contemporary music avant-garde at wien modern.
with situational awareness, post-punk legends crash course in science deliver an album consisting entirely of brand new material. the songs on situational awareness sound crisp and ultra-fresh, while the band from philadelphia, usa, maintains their distinctive diy sound created by toys, kitchen appliances and self-built synths. far beyond new wave, the music is experimental and danceable at the same time - science and art, together hand in hand. the cd edition contains a remix of im here to tease as a bonus track, not available on the vinyl album.
a decade has passed since tobias freund and max loderbauer aka non standard institute (nsi) released their enigmatic collection of non-standards. playing with mystery is the name of the game here as well. the new cd, entitled with the code 5863, is the result of collecting creative moments over years and stringing together twenty short pieces that jointly amount to almost an hour of playtime.

answer code request’s 2014 debut lp code was an exciting moment for electronic music in berlin – one that offered a break from the eternal hall and monolithic 4/4 kicks that ruled the city’s club landscape. as a hybrid gesture, the album’s spirit recalled an especially fruitful era in the german capital from the mid-90s to early 2000s, when dub and pad- driven detroit techno cross-pollinated with berlin’s industrial aesthetic to create one of the city’s most exciting musical chapters.
it seems somehow surprising that its only now that james zabiela enters the fold of balances compilation selectors. a perfect fit for the series, his unfeasibly intricate approach to djing shinesthrough on this sprawling two-parter, created through a back-and-forth process between his pioneer ddj-rz and ableton and featuring two exclusive new productions from the man himself.
all clear cd jewel case with 8 pages booklet, no inlay, the cd is put upside down on the tray so its label is visible from the back of the packaging. molecule returns with a new odyssey both physical and musical. following the success of 60°43 nord, his concept debut played, recorded and mixed on a fishing boat during a 34-day journey in the atlantic ocean, the french producer decided this time to take the process further up north and embarked on a voyage to greenland. isolated for five weeks in the small inuit village of tiniteqilaaq, romain delahaye used his survival electrokit to find new sounds in the fjords, the icefields and the hostile yet dazzling landscapes surrounding him. entirely recorded and mixed in this remoted place, the tracks of -22.7°c range from contemplative ambient atmospheres to more upbeat techno blizzards and accurately translate this epic self-reflective adventure across a land of contrast, its abyssal silences, its immaculate glaciers and its blinding whiteness. with ten previously unheard tracks and very enthusiastic early feedbacks from medias internationally, -22.7°c is set to confirm molecules status as a one-of-a-kind producer in todays electro scene.
kuf create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. voices recorded in private are chopped up and brought out center-stage to sing with beats hammered out right here and now. glowing synths push forward. basslines rise to grab the melodic role of a track while a vowel is truncated and locked into a grid, driving the rhythm. voices move within the frame of a sample, performed by hands pushing keys, guided by the ear, immersed in a trio sessions deep flow… a vortex of quirky hands, responsive ears and glowing circuits. since thomas a. edison first recorded the human voice in 1877, the recording arts have changed music forever. musicians have explored the endless possibilities of bouncing their input onto layers of tape, off the walls of an echo chamber or the circuitry of electronic helpers - technology that modulates, spatializes, shifts, divides or multiplies the work of human hands and mouths. an era of sampling offered a cubistic analysis of the recorded past and djs took dancers onto intricately fractured time travels. this is the historic foundation that kuf keep probing. just like the sampler and the dj before them, they found new ways to re-allocate where machine and man stand when making music together. most importantly, they turn the resulting friction into sparkling bursts of energy. ‘universe digs deeper into the android vocal chords. the album offers sweeping melodies, different beats and persistent bass. immerse in the intimacy of the voices, probably recorded in trains, backstage areas and at late night private parties during berlin lichtenberg warehouse rehearsals. by striking the keys, kuf squeeze out and serve up all the soul accumulated in those savory phonetic shreds.
(digipak / 4 page booklet) poignant, aggressive, but yet serene sound track created by jeff mills for and then there was light - a japanese film directed by tatsushi omori based on the novel hikari by shion miura.
how much do you really know about nina kraviz? shes a russian techno dj, an accomplished producer, one of dance music’s breakthrough names of the last five years. true enough, but theres so much more to her story than that. shes one of electronic musics most interesting characters, someone who has stuck to her musical guns since day one, someone who has wide-ranging roots that run deep in the past, yet shes also the embodiment of the future. her signature sound is a raw blend of house and techno with a very acidic feel. if that feels very now, kraviz has a lot to do with it, which is why she was asked to mix the latest instalment of !k7’s landmark ‘dj kicks’ series.
dj-mixes often do little more but keeping up a certain mood. to establish a mood like this, masterful sven väth only needs a couple of moments. but this is it not enough for the inimitable dj from frankfurt am main. väth wants to introduce us to an entire world of electronic sounds. the music is an end to itself, yet at the same time, it is more: vaeth employs it to express his passion for the whole scene, to tell about the adventures he has experienced traveling, about his love for his friends, his children, his girlfriend and particularly to his fans all around the world.
highly anticipated full length album by australian producer dylab. heavy duty analogue acid and techno with a distorted and sometimes industrial edge. some lengthy tracks that are made to play in your car and drive 140..

damon wild and david sumner (aka functions) relationship dates back to 1991 at lord michaels future shock, limelight, new york city when damon was running experimental records via northcott productions. at the time, he first saw something in dave and added him to brand x, a record pool run by moneypenny. but their bond is based around a period 5 years later when dave had an apartment above rogue music at 251 west 30th street in midtown, manhattan. it was during this time damon developed him as a synewave artist and released his first ep as function in the fall of 1996 catalog number sw-24. falling in and out of touch over the years, across continents, the two have somehow remained on the same cosmic path. so it’s not a coincidence that now damon has turned to dave to release his first album in 13 years, during the time he is reissuing that first synewave ep on recompiled i/ii & ii/ii (a-ton lp02/03). this is where those paths cross again. 21 years later, this fall, dave will release cosmic path on infrastructure. the cosmic connection.

say what you wanna say, but you have to give strahil velchev this: the man’s a powerhouse. recording and playing live under the kink alias, he went on to become one of finest purveyor’s of funk in techno and house. what it is, by definition, ain’t exactly clear. and that is the beauty of it. kink’s music is unifying in the best possible way. channeling the spirit and feeling of a time where it didn’t really matter who the faces behind the music were, kink plays with the elements of genres and sub-genres as if the future of it all is still wide-open. at the same time it could be accused of retro-fetishism, as much as the pope himself is infallible. the pure need to recreate moments, feelings and experience - rather than carbon copies of existing designs - was what started kink’s production work. hailing from bulgaria, it was nearly impossible to get your hands on all the records and music that fed into a system of raves, clubs and record shops that seemed far away from sofia, and financially it might as well have meant another galaxy. wanting to dj without having access to the tracks that spun the carousel meant that you had to create them yourselves. so, here we go with a private bootlegger gone public mastermind and one of the loudest voices in house, techno and beyond. from kink’s early productions with neville watson to his smash-hit for ovum, a cerebral album for macro, tons of remixes & tracks and his mind-bending live act, playground seems to take all that into a blender. simultaneously a sound-summary, the harvest of a field of ideas, and the exhibition of an artist in his prime, it also works as a sort of kink dictionary: avant-garde soundscapes stand next to boisterous bangers, classic club tracks and peak time emotions
2cd digipack + booklet - includes 21 classic tracks + 2 previously unreleased titles. review on acid jesus, the first of many collaborations between roman flügel and jörn elling wuttke. including 2 unreleased tracks! situated in germany’s then blistering techno scene and especially a mirror of frankfurt at the time (and it s holy label trinity of playhouse, klang and ongaku), flashbacks are also a feedback loop to what was happening in the uk and the usa. flügel and wuttke succeeded with their own and unique take on it, that owned as much to underground resistance and the belleville three as it did to sven väth and andrew weatherall.
extrawelt are back! although in fairness, they were never gone. on the contrary, since their first release on james holdens border community label dropped in 2005, arne schaffhausen and wayan raabe have been responsible for a plethora of classics including schöne neue extrawelt and in aufruhr, their two seminal albums on cocoon recordings. the duo are one of the most booked live acts worldwide, commanding a huge fan base. their performances are the stuff of legend, making them the absolute highlight at every club and festival they play
on limited edition compact disc. generated instinctively in the moment from resampled chunks of previous output sandwiched between unheard waveforms from a distant future whilst underwritten by voltage controlled rumblings from actual synthesisers than can be seen and touched and wrecked by roadies. traversing known knowns and unknown knowns from drone to drone. harvesting new and slightly less new artefacts of the digitaux variety and crash landing in the ghetto of the lysergic jungles visited by g@ng5tas of yesteryear, all for your personal enjoyment. performed live at the red rattler in sydney, australia on the 16th of april 2017 for the strange signals / house of mince crews, the performance is slightly more than just the insane ejaculations of an unhinged mind, but a true insight into one of the internets least popular twitter accounts.
dutch producer and live act conforce is back with autonomous , a fifth artist album and the latest in his long relationship with delsin records. conforce is boris bunnik, a producer who explores the deepest realms of dub, house, techno and electro under many different names. his conforce alias is where his most club orientated material comes from and this new nine track album finds the transcendent label boss producing dark syntheses inspired by his hometown and harbour city, rotterdam, and its automated industries. a masterfully conceptual album that really paints a vivid picture of a harbour as heard from deep down in the depths.
