nach dem weltweiten erfolg des albums *blackbird* aus dem jahr 2013 (platz 65 in deutschland) meldet sich das neuseeländische septett mit *bays* zurück. die neun stücke entstanden im bandeigenen studio in kilbirnie, wellington, dem ehemaligen presswerk des labels hmv. ist letzteres vielleicht ein grund für den genrereichtum des albums? es beginnt mit dem lodernden funk von *wairunga blues*, entwickelt sich dann zu einem hybrid aus reggae, jazz, soul, blues und techno-rhythmen. für fans von bonobo, thievery corporation, quantic, d’angelo, easystar allstars, rudimental, bilal, sbtrkt. das 180-gramm-doppelvinyl enthält eine download-karte.
