this is the first 12inch in a series of releases for legendary midwest techno label analog records which has featured some of the biggest names in techno history starting off with new material from label honcho freddy fresh under his modulator moniker with 2 techno bangers also features a relaunch of the sought after gates release by freddy and paul mix which was originally released on analog uk division in 1996 and goes for loads of money if you are lucky enough to locate an original copy stay tuned for more action.

with a crude quartet of evolving arrangements urgent’s producer deego fresh stays true to his namesake. shifting baselines roll between a medley of percussive reverb and delay, creating a fluid symphony of dance floor grooves geared for any time of day or night.
from warm and easy to peak time pressure urgent 004 delivers in all aspects. this ep takes no prisoners, so prepare to be moved.

a raw edition to the urgent label, this release features three tracks with bags of clarity. the syncopated layers of a1’s “8-bit doberman” are followed by sounds of intense anticipation on b1’s “the wizard of gizzard”. a session of dusty hats and crashing claps ride a gentle melody to close the release with “dirt hurting” on the b2. urgent 005 provides the perfect set of intermissions for anyone that wants to lead the listener into the mindset of deego fresh.

dank has been at the forefront of the heavy bass culture movement since its early inception years ago. this new york city native considered to be a pioneer of the underground sound currently coming out of the city that never sleeps, represents heavy bass culture from the school of the hard knox and is knee deep in it. it has been said he eats, sleeps, and breathes heavy bass culture. in addition, he is no stranger to demolishing dance floors throughout the united states and abroad. fused with sexy bass and super funk, dank has played along side some of the hottest talent on the planet.

often overlooked in american techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. no two finer exponents have there been than minnesotas paul birken and freddy fresh. their contributions date back to the early nineties when freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like labworks, experimental and his own analog) - an activity that paul took up a while later after debuting on woody mcbrides renegade communique label in 1996. teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12 inch, paul and freddy open with >the fate of thirty eight< - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose.

Über die letzten jahre gelang es den the fresh & onlys sich in die herzen einer immer grösser werdenden schar von fans zu spielen. die fresh & onlys sind so eine richtige lieblingsband. es gibt eigentlich niemanden, der dem charme des sängers tim cohen und seiner mannen nicht verfällt. früher oder später kriegen sie sie alle. das who is who der amerikanischen underground labels (woodsist, in the red und captured track) rissen sich darum ihre platten zu veröffentlichen, auf dem all tomorrows parties festival sind sie sowas wie ein stammgast, und bands wie black lips und deerhunter haben ihre lieblingsband mit auf tour genommen. diesen herbst folgt ihr inzwischen viertes album, das endlich auch in europa erscheint, auf souterrain transmissions, der heimat von crocodiles, moon duo, zola jesus und coco rosie. >long slow dance< (oder auch l.s.d.) heisst das album. abermals geht es sehr romantisch zu und hittig, man fühlt sich an go-betweens erinnert und frühe (gute!) r.e.m., aber alles glücklicherweise nicht glatt sondern schrullig. es fällt da nicht leicht ein anderes label ausser pop im besten sinne zu verwenden!
