frigio consistently plumb the depths of electronics to find new material, and this time the madrid imprint has unearthed, in the murky currents, a real gem. tecwaa is the solo project of york based producer paul fawcett, a musician who discovered his sound in the british warehouse parties of the early nineties and went on to nurture it with movie scores, detroit techno and homegrown electronica. his debut brings together three pieces of original machine music alongside a very special remix. the menacing -the eighth circuit- broods into being. looming synthwork is further darkened by distant vocals, house percussion keeping time in this sinister opener. -mantra & machine- has similar attributes. adopting clean rhythms, the track refuses to sit comfortably in any genre pigeonhole as tecwaa weaves a work of cerebral depth. charles manier introduces the flip with his take on -fervour-, tadd mullinix returning to frigio for the first time since his superb remix as jtc of juanpablo s -dream- in 2010. a funk laden work of hip hop breaks and industrial distortion where manier explores blackened moods and horrorshow grooves. the original of -fervour- closes, showing another side of fawcett s style, bpms drop as foundations are laid bare in this stark conclusion.

2020 repress! 747’s paleo is an essential acid collection of eight diverse tracks, with a vinyl-exclusive d side. aquaregia’s first long playing release weaves through the different faces of acid on a time travelling trip through geological history. the journey begins with warm pads enveloping lush landscapes fringing the shallow, prehistoric seas where swarms of trilobites frenetically scurry, seeking to survive and evolve. roiling subaquatic vulcanism rules the b side, a seeding ground for exotic crystals whose hexagonal points vie for space as the magma cools and the minerals speciate. we’re then taken further into the depths, where planispiral ammonoids swim in the pseudo-antigravity of the saline seas. and finally, closing out the excursion, we’re transported from ages past, through the fleeting present into the future, to a warming ocean with disrupted ecosystems and unpredictable currents, the effect of a morphing climate.

beneath the still waters of lonely sound there lays the ruins of howland abbey, its 3000lb bell still hanging in the belfry, only swayed by the currents of the regular tides across the estuary, over 100 years since it was rang by the order of carthusian monks who lived in the nearby priory. at the turn of the last century during a heavy storm the abbey was plundered by an unknown gang of marauders, as they left on horseback carrying with them all the gold from the abbey the sea defences around lonely sound were breached, flooding the abbey, priory and the surrounding land, the monks ran for dry land as they watched their beloved bell tower disappear beneath the rising waters, unable to chase the thieves, cut off as the water rose around them. some locals say these ransackers were in league with the elements, some say they had just intentionally damaged the sea defences before making their raid. local folk-law claims that the morning bells of the abbey can be heard ring out from beneath the murky waters of the sound every year on the anniversary of the great storm, ringing the peel that was never rung.

emile facey (plant43) has been at the forefront of electronic for more than twelve years. during that time the british producer has released on a host of seminal labels, expanding his style and sound in new directions. although plant43 is typically classified as a purveyor of electro, behind those driving rhythms and steely percussion a tenderness has always been present, an emotion expressed in lilting melodies and complex harmonies. it is these melodies and harmonies that come into focus on plant43s debut ambient album. on from deep streams is a rich and textured tapestry of synth work, a soundtrack that organically unfurls from nightime woodland walks and city stargazing to mindful solitude. the eight tracks offer the listener a calming journey into stillness, an excursion through gentle audio currents and a moment to pause and take in an inspiring vista of sound. recorded over the space of 3 months, this album gives the quiet, the subtle and the sometimes underappreciated centre stage whilst casting light on yet another side of emile faceys ever-evolving musi

deep sound channel delve deeper into the waters of eshu. following releases from arc# and tom liem comes j&l, the team of jocelyn abell and tom liem, with a storm of emotions. brooding, menacing, the tumult of uneven tides introduces. steady thuds support flows of warmth, flows countered by piercing coldness in a track that is as absorbing as it is haunting. a sea of veritable tranquillity descends for lunar tides. soften, staggered basslines are punctuated with crisp skeletal cymbal. new textures come to the surface for the autumnal currents of ocean tides. churning chords reflect night skies, shifting percussion floating amidst the jetsam.

after releasing their first two releases on one disc, the third release on amsterdam imprint working titles is a release on its own. label founders scott franka & kaap are behind the label s third release that features two epic tracks from the dutch pair and again finds them exploring new and exciting techno territory with their lively machine jams.
first track poise i is a deep and dubbed out techno track with deft synths slowly shapeshifting and bringing sombreness to the quickened groove. it’s late night music to zone you out with sparse but rich detailing to keep your mind occupied and it gets ever-busier over the course of thirteen enthralling minutes. then poise ii is a 16 minute masterpiece that is watery and dubby. it has undulating synth currents and increasingly textured snares. building to a peak then pulling back, with occasional freaky vocal sounds and sci-fi motifs, it is a truly cinematic piece that closes out an ambitious ep.

opening the ep, “a matter of time” sets the things up with a phlegmatic tempo centered around a feverish acid line. a soft mist of organic snares, dub percussions and jazz hi-hats slip over a spacious spread of synthesizers.

great analog sounding journey, 90s feel

frigio records is going back in time for its latest release, some 38 years into the past. back then a young newcastle man was experimenting with early electronic instruments and synths. mick clarke is his name and nearly forty years later he is still at it. two tracks have been borrowed from clarke s seminal games lp, each given a bit of modern boot polish from minimalrome s heinrich dressel and frigio father juanpablo.

-walls of the night- is a blissed out work of ambient prog rock abstraction. think rumbling horror score and soaring guitar strings. heinrich dressel offers a giallo dipped remix. the building bars of the original are maintained, beats added for ballast and darkened organ keys for a remake etched with murderous intent. the flip is introduced by the dreamy -time is now.- slender synthlines intertwine with gentle strings in a cerebral work. juanpablo tweaks the 1979 material. syrupy acid lines swim in meandering currents, a thick beat keeping time in murky waters of modulations and undulations.

the first release from naissance musik (nm) is a 12” vinyl from the super-group dream scoring (hear and hakim murphy) entitled images of a myth. it is comprised of 4 tracks. a myth is a legendary story that a community validates to explain part of its reality. however any member or group within the community can have his or her own version of the myth, and the myth can also evolve through time. we may all listen to the same track but this track still calls up intimate images for each and every one of us. a myth is full of adventure and mystery, it is epic and full of emotions. it can be anything from the lost ark to greek gods fighting. the aim is to fill our bodies and minds with emotions. the main idea is to tell stories like books or movies, but through musical notes & rhythm. the music makers provide the musical image, the listeners create the myth. and vice-versa.

the first r&b rec record is born from the encounter of two artists in the gloomy baltimore of the beginning of the millennium, after years in which their artistic roads proceeded in a very much parallel manner, without ever physically crossing paths, driven by their passion for analog instrumentation and the desire to find and create new rhythmics and sounds. it is in 2013 the two decide to join their forces to create their own personal vision of techno music and dance music in general. resulting in a hot and scratchy vinyl that combines dark, percussion sounds well known from detoit techno, with the sought after rhythmic of breakbeat and drum and base, of the british nineties. also packed with influences of acid-house, this record incorporates features of the so influential 80 s punk era, finally sinking it s roots in the psychedelic currents of the 70 s. the result is a brand new genre which is difficult, if not impossible to define. a unique way of defining dance music, in all its aspects, which is identified under the name of spaceship surgery techno.

cliche morph is a mysterious new entity, debuting with liquid materia. the title track melts streams of melody, chords dissolve in currents as a steady thump tries to tame the sonorous swash.
