catz n dogz are some of our oldest extended dirtybird family, spanning multiple eps, a couple albums, some remixes, and we even presented their very first release as catz n dogz as they transitioned from their old 3 channels alias in 2007. its been over 4 years since they ve been on the label, and we re ecstatic to have them back with the feelings factory. fine feelings features the legendary vocalist robert owens, and sounds like a classic deep house track from the late 90 s when no one called it deep house, they just danced to it all night in warehouses. factory settings includes additional production from londons joseph ashworth, and from the first note to the last its filled with driving intensity and an ascending cacophony of rhythms and voices.

front left records founder elad magdasi is next to appear on sinfols anagram label with four stirring cuts entitled liquid dreams this june. originally hailing from tel aviv, magdasi moved to berlin in 2013 where he has immersed himself in the scene whilst honing his craft in the studio. primarily a platform for his own productions, he launched front left records in 2015 and later debuted on anagrams phasing faces va in 2017 alongside anetha, d?vide and sinfol. he now returns to the label with a four track release of his own. liquid dreams opens the release with a mesmerizing spoken word sample, twinkling melodies and layered atmospherics whilst sporadic hats rattle throughout. thudding kicks, escalating synths and quivering bass then combine together in water damage before moving into the mesmerizing silver lights, which conjures up an otherworldly aesthetic courtesy of arpeggiated notes and crashing cymbals. lastly, never let go exhibits a cacophony of elements such as crystalline chords and a meandering bassline that generate a heightening suspense from start to finish.

uncage founder marco faraone makes his second appearance on rekids with a massive vocal cut entitled ‘on my way’, featuring a remix from 50weapons and hyperdub’s addison groove. the italian techno producer had an active year touring in 2017, dropping only one release on tenax recordings. however, 2018 is already proving to be one of his busiest on the production front, with releases appearing on rekids special projects, on edge society and his own label uncage, not to mention forthcoming appearances on gigolo and avotre. he now returns to rekids with his biggest sounding record yet. with its infectious vocal, rolling kicks and off-beat hats, it is undeniable that ‘on my way’ is destined to become one of this year’s most recognisable club tracks. on the flip, bristolian producer and swamp 81 affiliate addison groove has produced an intricate remix featuring a cacophony of percussion as a stuttering low-end joins chilling synths. finally, faraone concludes the package with a ‘dub acid rework’, losing the vocals whilst incorporating heady 303 licks.

jonah sharp & dj spun pair up as the loose control band to drop a punk-inspired single on rekids with remixes from label founder radio slave and shut boss ryan james ford. having released a large body of work as spacetime continuum (astralwerks) or alongside david moufang as reagenz (workshop), not to mention significant collaborations with the likes of terence mckenna, haruomi hosono and bill laswell, jonah sharp is unquestionably a highly respected producer. his seminal label reflective played an important role in the experimental ambient and techno scene during the ‘90s, whilst as a remixer he’s worked with music by nine inch nails, meat beat manifesto and matthew herbert. meanwhile, jason drummond has long been a commanding force within new yorks electronic music scene, such as running his prestigious warm up music series or his all night rong parties with regulars like dj harvey. hes also been djing and producing as dj spun for two decades, appearing on golf channel recordings as well as his own illustrious imprint rong music, which used to release music collaboratively with dfa. i dont understand sees a raw and uncompromising side to both artists as they layer a cacophony of murky bass, twisted melodies and mind-bending bleeps whilst drummonds turbulent vocals bellow throughout the mix. staying faithful to the original, radio slaves remix incorporates a heady rhythm with its rolling beat as screeching effects join a moody bassline. moving into techno territory, ryan james fords akihabara remix features rattling percussion and crystalline synths whilst his hope remix is built on an intricate drum sequence as soaring pads and echoing keys contrast with the originals piercing vocal.

the ‘matière obscure ep’ is the first in a two-part series, whereby each composition was made using only recordings from one specific material (metal, glass and wood). the process involved taking everyday objects and making them resonate in every way possible, such as striking them with mallets or using a violin bow, and building up a sample library. ‘weld (metal_01)’ kicks off the release with its syncopated percussion and gritty groove before moving into the cavernous ‘molten (glass_01)’ that’s composed of rolling drums and sinister atmospherics. ‘carve (wood_01)’ is a lot bouncier by comparison, with its fidgeting bassline and murky tones until the menacing ‘cast (glass_02)’ concludes the package with machine inspired effects and a cacophony of stabs.

new york’s p.leone debuts on rekids special projects with four vinyl-only techno cuts this february. debuting on spencer parker’s work them records in 2016, p.leone has since launched his own imprint entitled e-missions alongside label partner caiazzo. moving to berlin last year, the american producer has quickly earned himself a name within the german capital, making regular appearances at the likes of tresor and ://about blank, and now joining respected berlin-based label rekids as part of their vinyl-only series. metallic echoes, robust kicks and breakbeat percussion lay the foundation for ‘rose petal breaks’, before ‘noon service’ demonstrates crystalline synths and futuristic effects. on the flip, thudding drums and energetic claps form ‘hold me down’ until the ominous ‘sometimes i feel strong’ concludes the package with rattling components and a cacophony of intricacies.

the latest installment on roam recordings features nozz aka damon jee aka jérôme da silva. most known as damon jee for his widely acclaimed remixes, jérôme has been branching out with outstanding originals under his nozz alias. in his misfits ep for roam nozz delivers two excellent new productions. the title track is a cool rock infused guitar laden stunner with class and attitude while hippy home is a dreamer of a tune perfect for greeting the sun or losing yourself in a closed eyed dance session. the misfits ep comes with two top remixes from the emperor machine and autarkic. the first remix is a tour de force performance with a sound that is unmistakably the emperor machine – intricate, dubbed out, lasers, and superb production. autarkic s version of hippy home adds an eclectic edge to the ep with a cacophony of orchestral and quirky sounds that somehow perfectly keep in line with the stripped down feel of this remix. the misfits ep brings together three artists at the top of their game and is a fine addition to the ever growing roam recordings catalog.

rhythmic and groove-led from the off, 004 begins with dustin summin blending intricate percussion with scintillating chords in a proper house workout. gass is a more low-end focused affair with its rippling bass and a cacophony of trippy stabs, whirrs and licks, whilst lfo fidget earns its name from its oscillating synths, with crunchy drums and atmospheric elements forming a mesmerising aesthetic. tying it all together, lemon groove is an undulating number with twisted effects and moody undertones.

next up creme organization is a return by regular artist lake haze. following his natural insight ep earlier in the year comes intergalactic communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. the portuguese artist known as goncalo salgado also please son labels like unknown to the unknown and is a real hardware master. at the gates ov futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. drexciyan aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. poseidon s dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. last of all, intergalactic communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic ep with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

manchester native alex coulton has nurtured a reputation for creating sub-heavy rollers thanks to 12”s for the likes of black acre, livity sound and bloc. with gamma ray burst, the next in his series of releases on london low-end specialists tempa, coulton consolidates his sound to deliver some of the most sparse, rhythmic work of his career. with the record’s title track, coulton weaves from hard-hitting kicks, through to dizzying tribal polyrhythms the whole time maintaining a minimal, space driven atmosphere that remains omnipresent throughout the track’s most intense moments. ‘ground zero’ revels in its spaciousness, allowing reverb to flood into the negative space between flashes of heavyweight techno percussion and saturated ripples of synth while the pulsating kicks that underpin ‘alpha decay’ are punctuated with bleak, discordant bells, rhythmic bass hits and hypnotic filtered percussion. showing his diverse abilities, ‘phase two’ is an exercise in measured restraint, as a cacophony of clicks and hisses come together to disorientate before forming a driving rhythm section before coulton maximises his expansive elements on the fog-tinged ‘ascent’. closing with the steady flowing, brighter-hued melodic work of ‘distant resonance’, alex coulton has created a masterful collection of experimental tech-focused electronica that bewilders, intrigues and will draw the listener in with each play.

that night, we answered a regular call, something about crazy loud noises coming out from a basement. while driving to the area all i could think when i first heard the bass stomping was: “man, whatever, this doesn t even sound like music to me.” and we were at least a 100 meter away from the source of the sound. when we got there, after knocking several times on the door, we decided we had more than enough probable causes to bust in. after a warning, we kicked the door open. what we saw inside was a five feet tall woman jumping around in that cacophony. we screamed and she ignored us, my colleague then panicked and shot her with his taser several times – she then simply pulled the probes out of her body shouting moments moments – and continued to jump around..

ednic is the italian duo of nicola di gabbia and edoardo cortopassi, and by all intents and purposes, they’re an outfit that’s on to a good thing right now. the guys make quality, analog-enriched house and techno, the likes of which comes to the fore here on puas puas, a vinyl only label that’s already featured the likes of the mole, alex piccini and carola pisaturo amongst others. first up on the exceptionally refined strands of the auberste ep sis the sounds of the original, which is a barnstorming cacophony of acid flourishes and tension-filled motifs. a track that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat for some time, it features shades of old-school electro and techno, and is the sort of track that’ll definitely rescue any ailing dancefloor. the aforementioned carola pisaturo then perks up with the first of her two remixes courtesy of her brilliant ‘church’ mix. a bumping and grinding interpretation on the original, it too keeps the suspense high, most notably thanks to a dizzying array of melodies and a series of potent basslines. her ‘botta’ remix is a more stripped back affair, albeit one that still speaks to fans of discerning fare thanks to its relentless attitude. full of shiny percussion and the odd sultry vocal smidgen, it’s further indication of a producer who looks set to enjoy an excellent 2015. this is classy stuff indeed from the puas puas label.

this disquiet is a layering of many, the process is the result: a slow-churning, microtonal wash, at once liquid and brilliantly crystalline in affect. two timbres fracture into many. a tectonic drone slides below and aerates a chorus as vocals flicker in and out of being, wrestling with silence. cacophony blends into order as subtle harmonies appear. what bence has written falls somewhere between an electronic production and a classical composition. where these two forms intersect is where disquiet occurs.

release no.4 for the mysterious dense & pika. >who cares wins< is another slice of grimey warehouse rawness, the kinetic drums and synths combing for a peak time cacophony of sound. flipsides >morse mode< ups the tempo whilst still keeping the duos signature rough vibe whilst >crackling< rounds things off nicely, more streamlined than the previous tracks with a touch of dub techno thrown in for good measure.

the act of shimmering is the act of leaving conscious thought behind. it s accepting what lies beyond the corporeal, transcending the physical, the soul is aware and the body, eyes, skin are distant empty casings. a clamorous, chaotic cacophony surrounds a beatific center. an endless assault of guitar, of noise that glistens, a poignant rigor. jannick schou, proprietor of tape loop drone, places himself within the tunnel of din to produce this profound work: an ethereal dream using nightmarish parts and images. black and grays generate vibrant innards. brightness is unearthed within the fetid mass and these six tracks immerse the listener into a raging sea to find a gentle undertow. furious outbursts emerge from simple, slow shivers. tremors of noise gather, reaching an elongated crescendo, becoming transformative, and shattering what form or structure was designed to contain such an outpouring of sound.

introducing the hells of love! two disco reprimands with an unhealthy penchant for slap bass, synths and drum machines. having both released singles under various guises, michele tessadri (fratelli riviera, bearfunk) and luca sapo saponaro (member of the love supreme project on tirk) decided two disco heads were better than one and headed to the studio to battle it out. the resulting cacophony of squelches and bleeps resulted in the third release on new fledgling jisco affiliated label under the shade.

the eps title track baltic pine bounces an elastic bass with a punch whilst its magical melody evolves out of the groove, taking you skipping away until it breaks into a ebullient cacophony of accordion, piano and brass.
