since launching their ksmisk project in 2015 the pair have returned to some of these labels whilst also dropping two releases on renowned bergen-based techno label ploink, of which 2017 s magma ep is the precursor to their inaugural album mikrometeorittene . opening the package is the ominous and beatless lonsdaleite , setting the tone for an otherworldly aesthetic throughout. off-kilter kicks then rain down in silicate as sinister drones ebb in and out of the mix before meandering back into a ghostly ambient cut named vesta . crunchy percussion and tantalising atmospherics then make up blitz , moving into the twisted and syncopated marinate until the raw sounding spherules exhibits a compelling groove combined with echoing effects. the dusky wustite sees the album retreat from 4/4 once again, returning for the effervescent westergas before concluding on a melancholic outro entitled chondrites .

argentinian producer cemento delivers four uncompromising techno cuts on norwegian label ploink this december. now based in norway, the south american dj has spent well over a decade honing his craft both on the dance floor, organising his own club nights and in the studio, producing records for the likes of antarctic, primitive state and diligentia. after the release of his first full length album on faarikaal records earlier this year, cemento now delivers an ep on bergen-based imprint ploink. fjordens vei provides noisy ambiences underpinned by a pulsating low-end and a series of arpeggiated synthesisers which evolve with the tracks sharp percussion before trolls reise grips us with enticing chord progressions, gloomy atmospheres and crisp drum fills floating above a powerful and grooved bass line. forekomsten hits hard with a heavyweight kick, rolling hi-hats and thick dissonant drones whilst haunting motifs develop with dubbed out effects. remixed by enigmatic producer twinspeaker, the speaker extended mix of trolls reise demonstrates an intricate structure of intertwining melodies with acidic overtones to close out the release.

argentinian dj / producer joaquin ruiz releases on norwegian label ploink this december, featuring four intense techno productions. ploink – a longstanding nightclub in bergen, norway – branched out with a record label in 2014, and now boasts a discography spanning prins thomas, +plattform, skatebÂrd, mental overdrive and label cofounder thomas urv. the labelís twentieth release comes from joaquin ruiz, a twenty-six-year-old from buenos aires, who has previously released on labels like ascetic limited and children of tomorrow whilst continuing to establish himself in the underground techno scene. ruiz opens with the title track ëgalacticí, where haunting melodies sit upon tight, rolling percussion and progress under complex polyrhythms whilst reverb soaked transitions seamlessly tie the track together to set a dark and bewildering tone for the release.

ksmisk drop three atmospheric techno cuts for their second release on norwayís ploink. made up of truls kvam and robin crafoord, the scandinavian duo are well known under their trulz & robin moniker and have released on the likes of prins thomasí labels full pupp and rett i fletta, not to mention their own imprints cymasonic and cymawax. ëmagmaí is a deep and mesmerising production that continues to evolve as more elements are incorporated, blending crunchy kicks with serene pads and otherworldly effects. ëlavaí is a dark and suspenseful number in comparison, establishing a raw hook and ominous nuances at its base whilst sci-fi inspired synths cut in and out of the mix. finally, an ebbing beatless track titled ëtuyaí generates a melancholic aesthetic to conclude the release.

thomas urv, co-founder of renowned norwegian techno label and event series ploink, readies his debut album. whilst the label was launched in 2014, the event series celebrated 20 years in 2016 - releasing music from scandinavian talents such as prins thomas, mental overdrive, christian tilt, +plattform and skatebard.

bergen’s christian tilt returns to norwegian label ploink with his debut album ‘alt skjedde jæla fort’ this september. norwegian christian tilt’s dedication to techno over the last two decades has securely placed him in high ranks to play alongside the likes of the zenker brothers, margaret dygas and ploink label head thomas urv at clubs such as berghain, jaeger and Østre - all in the last year. here though we see christian tilt make a return to ploink for a second time with a five track lp comprised of an intricate cross-section of syncopated rhythms and dubbed-out techno. ‘dos were the days’ slowly builds hi-hats and punchy kick drums, before a deep-synth melody drives the composition forward. up next is the stripped back ‘btl’ that combines otherworldly aesthetics with a steady bass rattle throughout, before the gritty ‘a visit from france’ unleashes a dark low-end, murky synth drones and frantic pad sequences. a relentless 9 minute affair titled ‘i only work late nights’ then swells and pulsates over an unremitting beat, before ‘Øreverk’ rounds off the package with frenzied clangs, muted hits and rhythmic percussion.

launched in 1996, ploink has been a core brand in norwegian techno for two decades now, booking the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, radio slave and richie hawtin, as well as launching a record label that champions scandinavian artists. with the likes of prins thomas, mental overdrive, nordenstam, mind over midi and label founder thomas urv appearing thus far, 96-16#3 is the third and final instalment in the 20-year celebratory releases.

norwegian producer thomas urv drops the småskansen ep on his own ploink imprint this april. one of norways leading techno prospects, thomas urv has promoted and played at countless events across the country featuring the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, richie hawtin, robert hood and kevin saunderson. when not delivering his three deck performances across scandinavia, spain, france, holland, canada and the uk (for fabric and bestival) the norse producer is firmly focused on ploink and his studio activities. *fuktig sol* leads the ep and is a sinister cut led by a morose hook and syncopated rhythm whilst whirring atmospherics add to a looming tension. the dark undertones continue in *stell/less* although steady kicks construct a vibe better suited towards peak time dancefloor madness. tying up the release *sånn isbre* delivers a frenzy of layered sounds that evolve over the course of a lengthy 16 minutes.

for nearly two decades, ploink has promoted techno nights around norway, presenting local talent as well as some of the biggest acts from around the world. we just really like techno. our definition of the genre is fairly wide though, constantly evolving, which we have attempted to reflect in this our first release, compiling four very different tracks by local producers from our hometown of bergen. setting up a label branch has for years been a burried, old plan. to us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.
